Two days have passed since Kaji had been living in Knothole with Sonic and his friends and as it was a sunny day, many of them knew that a new ally living with them meant another member of the team, but they never had a human as their ally before. Kaji showed to have his hair at chin length, it was straight and was kept parted down the middle yet he would wear a part of black leather steel toed boots as he was always wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeaned pants. Even though he too was a kid like the rest of them, he was the tallest person there and was very strong when ever he would pitch in to help others yet he didn't talk a lot and always had a stoic look on his face.

"Hey Sonic, how's Kaji doing?" asked Sally.

Sonic saw Kaji sitting down on a log nearby in the village where they would have a fire at like a camp fire. Kaji appeared to be thinking or listening to the sweet sounds of birds nearby.

"Well, the big guy seems to be alright. But I have no idea how he got the scar on his face or the scars on his body." said Sonic a little curious.

"Well don't ask him how he got those, I don't think he wants to talk about it." warned Sally.

Sonic started to see Kaji and walked towards him but he also saw Antoine walk over to him as well. So Sonic ran at a fast pace and was next to Kaji before Antoine. Sonic let out a whoop of victory.

"Beat you to it, Ant." teased Sonic.

Antoine appeared annoyed as if Sonic was showing off.

"Not everything is a race, blue boy." said Antoine annoyed.

"Says the slow-mo." giggled Sonic.

"No teasing people, Sonic." said Kaji calmly.

Sonic stopped giggling and was a bit surprised that Kaji told him to cut it out, but Antoine felt like he was having someone stick up for him yet he tried not to make any facial reactions to it.

"So Kaji, how are things for you here in Knothole?" asked Antoine changing the subject.

"Peaceful yet I'll live." answered Kaji calmly.

Kaji reached out to place his hand on Antoine's head and he began to gently rub and scratch behind his right ear, sending sensations of relaxation through Antoine's body as he let out a moan of pleasure. Sonic was a little surprised to see that.

"Oh that feels agréable." said Antoine with a French phrase.

As Kaji seemed to have Antoine feeling relaxed by rubbing his ear, he pulled out what looked like a candy bar from his pocket, he opened it by using his finger nail to rip it open and pulled out what looked like a red and taffy like candy and he looked towards Antoine.

"Antoine, try this." said Kaji speaking French.

Before Antoine could say anything, that's when Kaji gently popped the candy into the young male coyote's mouth. He placed all of it in his mouth and removed his hand from Antoine. As Antoine tasted this candy, he began chewing and the candy was taffy like, chewy and tangy which tasted like it was cherry flavored. As he chewed, he swallowed it down easily and he smiled.

"Delicious." said Antoine. "You know French?"

"I know several different languages." said Kaji speaking English again.

"What was that you gave him?" asked Sonic.

"Candy, this one was cherry flavored." said Kaji. "I figured Antoine could use some since he looked a bit hungry."

As Antoine felt like he was being treated kindly by Kaji, on one end, Sonic felt as though he was treating Antoine like a child or babying him yet he brushed off the feeling as quick as he could run.

"Where did you get that candy from?" asked Sonic curiously.

"When ever I was out there, some abandoned towns or cities had some buildings not completely in ruins and I found some candy at times along with other non perishable foods." explained Kaji. "And I don't eat candy as much as I used to so I figured let someone else have it."

"Je vous remercie, Kaji." said Antoine kindly.

"Vous êtes le bienvenu." said Kaji kindly speaking French.

"I guess that explains why we later found a bag with you." said Sonic as he remembered they found a duffle bag on Kaji.

"So how's it going, sugar?" came a female southern voice.

They turned to see Bunnie, Sally and Tails now with them. They seemed to be listening to what they were talking about for a bit.

"Things are doing swell." answered Kaji.

"So you gave Antoine candy? I think that's the first time he's had candy, or any sort of sugary sweets." said Sally as she assumed.

"Never assume anything without proof, or at least without someone proving it to them. Besides, I'm sure Antoine has had candy before." said Kaji as he remained stoic.

"Actually, this is the first time I had bonbons, candy in other words." admitted Antoine truthfully.

"Than that solves that mystery." said Sally as if not expecting to hear that.

Sonic and the rest of them never knew Antoine didn't have candy before till now yet they did see how he loved the taste of it but he knew that he would rather not eat it too much.

"Kaji, we found something you had in your bag and forgive me but we just wanted to make sure that everything you had wasn't contaminated." said Bunnie as she pulled out an object.

She pulled out what was a walkie talkie radio, she handed it to Kaji and as he took it, he looked as though he was relieved to find it as if he lost it or dropped it somewhere.

"I thought I lost it or that it fell out of my bag. Also, never go through my bag again, unless I let you or if you want to use something I have when you ask me." said Kaji as he gave Bunnie a heads up.

Bunnie understood what he said was a friendly warning. Kaji turned on the walkie talkie radio and attempted to contact someone. He began to adjust it to a channel that he knew. He placed it near his mouth to speak into it.

"This is Kaji, is anyone there? Come back." Kaji spoke into the radio's receiver.

He listened for a minute to see if anyone would respond, but to his bad luck, there was no answer, just static. He tried again for a second attempt.

"This is Kaji speaking, is anyone there? Come back." Kaji spoke over the radio again.

As they listened to see if anyone would respond, all they heard was static. Kaji switched to another channel on the radio to try again and get a better signal.

"This is Kaji, one of the survivors from the oasis safe zone. I'm alive and well, is there anyone else out there that's alive? Where are you? Come back." Kaji spoke over the radio.

They waited to hear a response as they listened to the radio, again, no response as there was just static and suddenly the radio made some sort of sound that made it look like it shorted out.

"Sorry to say this, but it's broken." said Rotor as he stood there.

"Just like my hopes." said Kaji sadly.

"Good news is I can fix it." said Rotor trying to sound hopeful.

Kaji looked towards Rotor with a look of hope. He held out the radio to him and once Rotor placed his hand on the radio, that's when Kaji placed his free hand on Rotor's hand with a firm hold.

"Do what you can." said Kaji as he released his hands from him.

Rotor nodded and Sonic patted Kaji on the back lightly as if to comfort him.

"Don't worry, stretch. Rotor can fix anything." said Sonic with a grin.

"Let's hope so." said Kaji with a sigh of relief.

"Kaji, when we found you, just want to know, were you attacked by a wild animal? The scars on you sort of left us wondering." asked Tails curiously.

Kaji went silent and knew that Tails asked out of curiosity but he felt as though that he wasn't ready to talk about it as his silence was part of the answer. They all looked at him with concern.

"It wasn't an animal, it was a person." said Kaji breaking the silence.

"Was it Robotnik?" asked Sonic.

"I'm done talking about this." said Kaji as he got up and walked off.

"Where you going?" asked Sonic.

"To be alone." said Kaji sadly.

They all were a bit surprised that Kaji reacted this way. Was it something they said or was the subject too soon to bring up? They didn't know. As Kaji went off to be alone, the young male human tried to remain straight faced but he looked like he was about to get irate as his lip started to quiver and a tear trickled out of his eye. They all looked worried.

"Was it something I said?" said Sonic.
