And V's are sexy!

They're both cool looking guitars... Never heard of either before, but still awesome. I'm sure I'll start accumulating... I want a 5 string at some point, but I just don't know what type. And maybe a real guitar amp too...
Nice... Apparently you can't slap a Ric, as Youtube has told me. My favourite comment: "Once I tried to slap a Ric. It slapped me before I could touch it." Lol that one made me laugh...
I've heard of Opeth... Never actually listened to them, any good? Those are pretty sweet guitars though. What type of amp do you use? And what do ya mean with the roller dials?
Yeah... Well, I had been looking at a Traben before getting my Ric, but I don't know how good the quality of those is... Warwick makes good ones, maybe ESP or something... I'd really need to look into it more.
Opeth are a weird one, every album up (up until their newest one) shifts from very brutal, heavy metal with growling to really clean and melodic within moments. They are a bit "ijrwka" to get your head around to begin with but I love them. Truth be told, I watched them live at a festival having never liked their music and they blew me away. One of my favourite bands now by far and they are staggeringly good musicians. Their songs tend to be quite long, but if you are going to check a song out, check out "Ghost of Perdition" it's a long song but really shows off the shifts well.
I use an Engl generally but I tend to use an AxFx for bigger live shows.
There is a lot of choice at the end of the day, best thing to do is read a few reviews of ones you like the look of and then see if you can try one out.
Ijrwka? Heh what does that mean, exactly? I can't really say I like the growling vocals... Well, to be perfectly honest I hate them lol... Which is part of the reason I have so much trouble finding anyone whose music tastes match mine! I say I like metal, and they instantly think like Cannibal Corpse or something like that, which I absolutely detest... I'll still check out that song though.
Powerful amp? Tubes, or solid state? Unfortunately mine's solid state... Damn!
For sure. It's just getting the time to do that lol... I'm currently headed straight for finals at university (first one is Friday, yikes!!) so I have absolutely no time!
Ah that's fair enough though, growls are not for everyone XD. There is a lot of rock and metal without growly vocals though. My band has no growly vocals at all. I have to admit, I think of Metal I think of Iron Maiden to be honest. Favourite band :-)
Well, it's a 100 Watt valve amp. It does kick some I can tell you and has awesome distortion, but really smooth clean as well. I actually quite like solid-state bass amps myself, but I'm not really a bassist so, meh hahaha
What have you been studying at uni then?
Funny thing about growling vocals... One of my best friends, who is (not trying to be mean, just honest) a skinny, pale, pasty ginger kid who you'd never expect to have a 5 octave vocal range, can do perfect growling vocals... Except, like me, he detests them, so he just does it as a mockery of the genre... But a very accurate mockery!
Maiden is good, I've just never really gotten in to them. First thing that comes to mind when I think 'metal' is Black Sabbath, personally... Every single album they've ever released (with the exception of two) is just godly (in my humble opinion). Heh oh yeah, I'm also a Black Sabbath die-hard... And Dio...
...Just to clarify something that has confused me for a while... Valve amp = tube amp, right? I've never quite known... Kinda a duh moment...
Lucky me... I'm studying to be an engineer! Structural, to be exact. I'm in my second year right now, and am buried in calculus... Shoot me now!
I like growling, but I do much prefer singing. My favourite bands all have singing and my own band has clean singing as well (though it's a long, long way from power metal haha)
I can't get enough of Maiden haha, love them to bits. Sabbath are a band I like a lot but don't really "love" as it were.
Yep, valve = tube :) they have little glowy lights in them (mine has red LEDs in it too, looks badass)!
Sounds pretty prostigious! Sounds like you'll leave Uni with a decent job on the cards!
Ooh love it when they highlight the tubes... Makes it all the cooler! Too bad all tubes are now produced in Russia lol... Gotta wonder about them quality standards, no?
Hopefully! One mark back out of the 5, A! I'm... Happy with it, it's still bringing my average down lol but it's as good as I could have expected in a course I paid so little attention to in the first part and got a 60% on the first midterm...
Meh, the ones in mine haven't broken yet though I sometimes think they should have done haha but yeah, it's glowy! haha All the Engls glow I think.
That's fair enough, sounds good though!
No, I'm kidding of course... Nothing against gingers. He just looks... About as un-metal as you can possibly look.
Ah my bass amp is from the 90's in that sorta period where they were pretty plain... Really big, but no nice flashy lights really, no shiny chrome... Just paint, that's wearing off in a few spots. And my cab is supposed to have those nice Peavey signature aluminum strips along the side of the mesh grill thingy, as well as a big Peavey logo in the middle... But those have disappeared long ago, never had it when I bought it. Oh well...
Heh yep thanks.
Have you ever cranked it at a gig/practice room at all?
At the place I take lessons there's a similar setup, old Peavey equipment, and I've had that one cranked up before... My own one, I've never turned past 3. Partly because the amp is rated at 400 watts, whereas the cab is 200... So I don't want to destroy the speakers. And of course there's the fact that, at 3, my neighbours couldn't hear their TV at a normal volume level when I was playing lol... That's a little bit of a problem. My setup has never left my room yet... I'm still struggling to find some people to play with!
Posting some adverts up on websites is usually pretty good. Places like Musofinder, or bandmix are good places to start.
Definitely gonna do that... Sometime soon... When I remember... Hopefully...
Worth doing, and like I said in another reply somewhere let me know if you have any joy finding something :D
I'm probably not moving out until either after university, or if I win the lottery... Other than that, I'm just trying to scrape by hehe...
Did ya have an email account if ya want me to send a pic? I don't really feel like posting a picture of just my watch here on SF lol... And the company that made it, a random Swiss one called Siduna, has been dead and buried long enough that there is absolutely not one single scrap of internet about it on the internet... It's a large-ish round gold watch though, a few dials, lotsa random numbers on the face. I like it... The ticking is fun.
Well, that's a good vinyl to have! I only have one Judas Priest album, Stained Class, but I love it, two 180 gram LPs which were just reissued a few years ago. Yay!
I'm a bit of a packrat myself, but not a hoarder... My mom would beat that out of me, she's like petrified of mess.
http://i47.tinypic.com/3v2wk.jpg
Nice... Heh that's awesome. My watch has never told me to die lol... Gotta love the German language! Those watches are cool, self-winding ones...
Hehe yeah... My mom watches some dumb show, Hoarders: Buried Alive, I think it's called, and... I don't know why she puts herself through that. She just gets really wound up and stuff... It's dumb. My room is often quite messy, but I am usually good at cleaning it once every couple weeks or so... Lol... Probably a bit earlier than that most of the time. Not garbage, just cords, albums, cds, textbooks... All that stuff. Effects pedals... Magazines... Heh a bit of everything but garbage.
I wish I knew where it was, it was such a nice watch. My house is crammed with stuff, well my living area and bedroom is anyway. I don't use the lounge, dining room or conservatory at all. I just like keeping things, I always look at stuff and think "well, I might need this someday" hahaha.
Hehe nice job... I don't think I could do that. I mean, to a point, sure, but... I suppose I do have some built in cleaning function, somewhere buried deep down which makes me clean my stuff up if it's getting too bad... Of course that never includes electronics though! I know that line of logic though... I had a sweet joystick years ago, hadn't used it in quite a while, but I knew exactly where it was... I installed a game for it, went downstairs to fetch it... Gone! Poof! My goddam mother had sold it to the bloody thrift store half a year before! Argh!
Nice job! Yeah I would... I have no idea what I would say to my mom if she tried to throw out my Ricky but... Oh man, I don't think she'd like it.
That would be a good idea... Do they like your music?
Wow yeah sure does... My dad's a physiotherapist, likes some metal, among other odd things... Butthole Surfers being one of them. Or at least one song by them heh...
What exactly is melodic metal?
(Now if only I could play the damned thing well lol... And had a guitar amp!)
I've never tried drums, but it could be fun to take out some rage upon lol... What kind of music do you like?
Same sorta stuff... I like classic rock, classic metal, hard rock, stuff like that... Dabble a wee bit into power metal and thrash metal, but not too much into either, just mainly classic stuff like Sabbath (especially in the Dio years). Any favourite bands?
Hmm... Favourite band? Well, probably Black Sabbath, especially post-Ozzy era Sabbath... Also a big fan of Dio, Rainbow, some Testament, Blind Guardian, early Helloween... I dunno, stuff like that. With a few blues vinyls thrown in for good measure lol...
Melodic metal, I guess it covers a lot of aspects really. I would consider it anything with a melody that is catchy without being constantly heavy. My band defines ourselves as melodic metal because we have no idea what else to call ourselves. We have lots of melodies, clean singing and keyboards with no br00tal bits or anything. It's not fast or pretentious enough to be power metal. I see us as borderline prog-metal really myself, especially with what I've been writing recently haha
Cool. Yeah I like that sort of metal... Definitely good. And yeah... That's a good enough reason! Heh pretentious? Yeah... I suppose some power metal can be that ha ha... Nice. Well, I'll have to check out your band again on Youtube, see if you guys have new stuff up there!
Cool... Insane as in insanely good? Or insane as in talking to the voices in his head insane? Heh... Sounds great though. The drummer in my band is really good... He's got a nice set, double kick, lots of cymbals and drums and things I don't even know the name for lol...
Nice! It's hard to find really really good ones... I think the people in my band are at least better than average, from what I can tell so far (aside from the vocals). That's pretty sweet though... I have no idea how many drums our guy has, but at least 4 or 5 toms I think... Yeah lol one of his cymbals is absolutely shattered... He keeps it because he says it gives a trashy sound hehe... Right on lol.
