Hehe what can I say? I've always loved the looks of them... A bit of a learning curve, trying to figure out how to... Well, hold it! Just slides right off the lap... But the main reason I got it was because it sounded great and played very nicely, definitely the nicest one in its' price range at the store I went to.
And V's are sexy!

I've got a Gibson V that's really nice to play. I have the answer to that as well. If you sit down you need to be on a chair/side of a bed or something and you put the inside of the V against your right leg with the two "prongs" sticking out either side so you'll find yourself in a kind of "classical" gutiar position. Playing my Gibson for years has actually impacted how I play my superstrats sitting down now, I rest them on my left leg rather than my right as the neck is comfortable for me there now.

Hehe yeah it's funny, my first bass teacher taught me to play in a classical position like you said, so that's natural for me now! I find it uncomfortable to play the other way... However, in the music store I was trying to look like a guitar player and it was odd... The Gibson V is my favourite, this is a Korean built Reverend.

Hahaha, I always play like that now. I have a fair few bad habits that other guitar players hate. I hold my pick in a really odd way, between three fingers. Means my strumming is really tight but really aggressive. I also can't pinch harmonic with my thumb. I use my little finger. Really uncommon technique. I gave up caring about all the "etiquette" attached to playing years ago and just got on with what I thought was comfortable. Yeah I've got some bad habits... I really attack the strings when I play (fingerstyle, can't pick to save my life) so I sometimes get a little clank, but I love the aggressive tone it makes... I also love a tone with lots of punch and treble, perfect for the Ric. Heh and my slapping... Basically one hair this side of non-existant. Those are some killer guitars! I've only ever had one other bass, a turquoise Cort Action bass of unknown age... Rusty poop bucket. Love the fretboard!

I find that you get the best tone with fingerstyle generally. Picks are just too clicky for my taste. The bassist in my band uses fingers exclusively but he blends it with slap and all sorts. He's a bloody good bassist as well. I love the PRS and the Caparison. The PRS is just stunning to play and sounds amazing but the Caparison is a real characterful guitar. I have just accumulated the things over years of playing.

Yeah I dunno... I like the sound of pickstyle, but I just suck at it heh... I can't really slap at all to tell the truth, but I don't really need to... Not for metal, thankfully!
They're both cool looking guitars... Never heard of either before, but still awesome. I'm sure I'll start accumulating... I want a 5 string at some point, but I just don't know what type. And maybe a real guitar amp too...

Pickstyle works for some things, but I really love the smoothness of finger picking. Sounds great! I keep telling my bassist to stop slapping, but I always end up eating my words because it makes our stuff a lot more...well... groovy haha. Well the Caparison (the black one with the fun headstock) is a Japanese custom shop, rare guitars as they only make a few a month. The PRS is a pretty big company. Opeth use them if you know those guys? Maverick were a small English company that went bust, the funky fretboard is awesome though and it has roller volume and tone dials. Quite a cool design. 5 String bass... I have no idea...I know Sandberg make nice ones, some of the Ibanez range are pretty nice too if you go for the right one.

Yeah same... I dunno, there's definitely times when it sounds great, like when you're playing a song with a bit of overdrive, picking just works in naturally to that sound... But for most stuff I definitely prefer fingerstyle.
Nice... Apparently you can't slap a Ric, as Youtube has told me. My favourite comment: "Once I tried to slap a Ric. It slapped me before I could touch it." Lol that one made me laugh...
I've heard of Opeth... Never actually listened to them, any good? Those are pretty sweet guitars though. What type of amp do you use? And what do ya mean with the roller dials?
Yeah... Well, I had been looking at a Traben before getting my Ric, but I don't know how good the quality of those is... Warwick makes good ones, maybe ESP or something... I'd really need to look into it more.

Opeth are a weird one, every album up (up until their newest one) shifts from very brutal, heavy metal with growling to really clean and melodic within moments. They are a bit "ijrwka" to get your head around to begin with but I love them. Truth be told, I watched them live at a festival having never liked their music and they blew me away. One of my favourite bands now by far and they are staggeringly good musicians. Their songs tend to be quite long, but if you are going to check a song out, check out "Ghost of Perdition" it's a long song but really shows off the shifts well.

I use an Engl generally but I tend to use an AxFx for bigger live shows.

There is a lot of choice at the end of the day, best thing to do is read a few reviews of ones you like the look of and then see if you can try one out.

Ijrwka? Heh what does that mean, exactly? I can't really say I like the growling vocals... Well, to be perfectly honest I hate them lol... Which is part of the reason I have so much trouble finding anyone whose music tastes match mine! I say I like metal, and they instantly think like Cannibal Corpse or something like that, which I absolutely detest... I'll still check out that song though.

Well, it's a 100 Watt valve amp. It does kick some I can tell you and has awesome distortion, but really smooth clean as well. I actually quite like solid-state bass amps myself, but I'm not really a bassist so, meh hahaha

Funny thing about growling vocals... One of my best friends, who is (not trying to be mean, just honest) a skinny, pale, pasty ginger kid who you'd never expect to have a 5 octave vocal range, can do perfect growling vocals... Except, like me, he detests them, so he just does it as a mockery of the genre... But a very accurate mockery!
Maiden is good, I've just never really gotten in to them. First thing that comes to mind when I think 'metal' is Black Sabbath, personally... Every single album they've ever released (with the exception of two) is just godly (in my humble opinion). Heh oh yeah, I'm also a Black Sabbath die-hard... And Dio...

I like growling, but I do much prefer singing. My favourite bands all have singing and my own band has clean singing as well (though it's a long, long way from power metal haha)

Yep Dio-esque is a good way to put it... I know, it's a fine line to walk, the style of singing I like... I like the harsh vocals in the style that Dio and Kursch do it, because... To me, it still sounds like singing, just the fact that they are raping their vocal chords at the same time as they are singing... But with growling it just ceases to be music in my ears, instead it just becomes a sort of aural assault, somewhat akin to rape of the eardrums lol... I dunno. That's my take on it!

Ah my bass amp is from the 90's in that sorta period where they were pretty plain... Really big, but no nice flashy lights really, no shiny chrome... Just paint, that's wearing off in a few spots. And my cab is supposed to have those nice Peavey signature aluminum strips along the side of the mesh grill thingy, as well as a big Peavey logo in the middle... But those have disappeared long ago, never had it when I bought it. Oh well...

Yeah, but slightly aggressive singing over metal works very well. Can't fault either of those guys as they both pull(ed) off the heavier singing without ruining their voices.

At the place I take lessons there's a similar setup, old Peavey equipment, and I've had that one cranked up before... My own one, I've never turned past 3. Partly because the amp is rated at 400 watts, whereas the cab is 200... So I don't want to destroy the speakers. And of course there's the fact that, at 3, my neighbours couldn't hear their TV at a normal volume level when I was playing lol... That's a little bit of a problem. My setup has never left my room yet... I'm still struggling to find some people to play with!

Ah right, haha dangerous game that XD 400 into 200 so I see why you don't crank it for that reason :) and the neighbours problem is something all lovers of loud music have to deal with across the globe :)
Posting some adverts up on websites is usually pretty good. Places like Musofinder, or bandmix are good places to start.

It's nice living away I won't lie. I can be messy and have space as well :P

Yep. That sums up mine exactly... My mother would have a heart attack if I purchased a single more bass (I've been thinking about getting a five string for a while, think she'd kill me?)... One is all I should need, as far as she's concerned! The instant I got my new amp, she was trying to get me to either throw out or sell my old practice amp, despite the fact that it's still very useful and would be great to just bring along if I'm going to a friend's house to play or something... She's ridiculous. My room is tiny too, and it's filled with shit... Dresser, desk, stereo, amp, book case, bed... Guitar, bass... There's basically no floor space except a small square right in the middle lol.
I'm probably not moving out until either after university, or if I win the lottery... Other than that, I'm just trying to scrape by hehe...

My parents never understood it either, but they didn't stop me managing to accumulate 9 guitars and two basses XD I haven't told them how much my PRS or Caparison cost though. They'd kill me if they found out I blew that much money on guitars haha. I have moved out luckily, keep all my guitars in one room now XD

Hehe yeah nice! Wow, 9 guitars... How many jobs did you have to support that? *chuckles* My parents helped a tiny bit with my bass, and the guitar was all me just for shits and giggles, and because it was super on sale. Yay! I have kinda eclectic tastes on things to spend money upon... Old stuff, especially mechanical things, fascinates me... I love art deco style, back from the 20's and 30's, so I suppose steampunk is a pretty cool idea. I've got a crazy old mechanical watch from my grandpa that I kinda baby, and I just bought myself a fob watch off Youtube from around 1900. Yay... And I have an ever growing record collection, which is slowly but steadily becoming more and more expensive hehe...

11 years worth of playing and saving. Plus okay jobs with an alright wage. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs or anything so I was pretty good at saving cash. So I just saved and saved haha. Most of my money now goes on my car really, petrol, tax, insurance etc which costs a fortune. Wow a mechanical watch? Care to share a piccy? I have only one original vinyl and that's Breaking the Law by Judas Priest haha. The only thing I "collect" per se is guitars. Though I am a bit of a hoarder and don't like throwing stuff away.

Wow, that's a nice watch. Haha, have you seen Pulp Fiction? :) My Step-Greatgrandad (haha I know right?) gave me his old watch, I have no idea where it is sadly, but it was a German watch. Very posh thing, but it had German days of the week on it so "Montag, Dienstag" etc but I remember the Tuesday after I got it I was terrified because the watch had the abbreviated "Dienstag" haha so it said "Die" freaked me out so much I never wore it again. Kind of miss it actually, it wound itself from your movements. My mum hates mess to, but I live in my own place so I can be as messy as I like haha, there is stuff absolutely everywhere (not rubbish mind, just stuff)

Nice... Yeah my dad is the one who introduced me to metal (or at least, old metal...)... He gave me a couple CDs, a Black Sabbath one and a Deep Purple one... Never looked back since then! He likes some of the stuff I like, but hates Blind Guardian and other power/speed metal sorta stuff... Silly bugger. My mom is hopeless lol... She likes country music. Well, she doesn't even really listen to music... For her, it's more of a background sound than actually listening to the music itself... So needless to say, she definitely doesn't like the music I play.

Well my Dad likes some pretty heavy stuff like Amon Amarth as well. As long as it has a tangible melody he tends to like it. My whole family enjoy rock and metal so it's fairly easy going. It's quite funny actually as my dad is a police sergeant and my mum is a headteacher XD haha goes against the stereotype of the rocker family :)

I think most metal is pretentious really hahaha XD Only two newer songs are on there, our album won't be out for a while. Our even newer stuff will be a little different due to the drummer. He's insane and I've wanted to work with him for years as he is a good friend of mine and has been for a while but joined my band after we wrote this album. Our next stuff is likely to be a bit more technical :)

Haha definitely true. It's part of it most of the time. Surprising how much image really plays a part actually. I hate to admit it, but it's integral to the live shows generally. He's both I guess XD No, he's very, very good. Most talented musician I've ever worked with. If I lined up all the guitarists, bassists and singers I've worked alongside, in terms of skill, he is heads above them haha. Always wanted him to be in a band with me, but it never worked until he agreed to do my current one. Thing is though, he's poor as hell hahaha he has a really smart Mapex kit, about 6 or 7 toms and two kicks (though he only uses one as the other kick-drum is broken). Nearly all of his cymbals need replacing haha. His kit is lovely, just battered and his snare has been bodged back together as well at our lock-up with a screw we found haha.

Heh I know... The band I'm in barely even has 450 likes on Facebook, and they're still wanting to get... Let's see... What's on the list... a) Trailer, b) New mixing board (32 channels, apparently 18 isn't enough), c) new bigass speakers for the PA system, d) flame shooting special effect thingies, e) lasers, f) fog machine... I'm sure there's more too lol... Just going crazy.

Haha very ambitious XD We have a van but that's about it, we've only just got a PA as we don't need it for gigs or anything but I think the biggest thing for me is Strobes. Love strobes :D Good to be ambitious though, you have to be really. I actually had a practice with my drummer yesterday and can confirm he has 5 Toms haha He even took a photo of his setup as well (minus a bass drum as the rim on his other one is broken). He needs to replace most of his Cymbals really, Bass drum skins, stands but he keeps his kit in tune and he looks after it. Takes his playing very seriously and he's the only drummer I have played with who, without fail, keeps his Toms in tune.

Okee dokee lol... So now we're probably leasing out a new digital 20 channel mixer and a pair of massive speakers... Argh my money is just floating away ha ha... Strobes are awesome. We need strobes! That's cool though... Big kit! Lol I didn't even know drums had to be kept in tune... I didn't know it was possible... They're also wanting to get an SUV or something to make transporting stuff easier... Trailer fell through, my wallet sighed in relief lol...
