Kaahrn (final costume design)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
As you surely know already, I've been planning on commissioning a costume maker to build an anthro carnotaur costume for me. I've made several designs of it, of which this one is the final (other than making a few touch ups). I made this one thinking that a costume would present various limitations due to the human that will obviously be inside (hence the large feet, for example). And even then a few things would definitely have to change in the actual build (I have a much shorter neck in real life).
Gods, why are carnotaur snouts so hard to draw accurately? I've drawn so many raptors and T.Rexes, that I'm having trouble making sure this guy doesn't look like any of those. :P
The original concept had him wearing some head armor, but I decided against it because it would hide the scutes that would be at the top and back of the head. But now I feel that the head looks too plain; maybe I should give him a hood or something. (And this guy is supposed to be so fierce and badass that armor is more of a hindrance than help.) He needs a necklace, though, either with dino/croc teeth. Or maybe I could use a fake raptor toe claw I have somewhere around my home.
I added a pouch on his left hip, since that would be a way for me to carry any necessary items (hotel room keycard, IDs, aspirin, and maybe money). I probably would have to add a larger one, to carry all the loot (a.k.a con swag) that such a brave carnotaur warrior would find in his travels.
I'm still trying to figure out the weapons. I have a small, foam-filled sword I bought at a con years ago for my Sivak costume, so I would only need a small holder for it. I still have to figure out the dagger on the right thigh and the big longsword on his back, however. I've yet to find something good online (I really don't need anything with freaky skulls or any of that shit, thankyouverymuch). I guess I could always try to build one out of several layers of glued cardboard. It could be all a moot point, though, if a con's staff freaks out at the sight of (obviously fake) weapons.
Speaking of freaking out, I wonder if a fake bulge under the loincloth (made out of cuple socks or small towel or some fake construct, tucked in the cloth that goes between the legs) would also upset some people. ;)
Anyway, I'm still waiting for word on my selected builder, who's currently very busy making things for Anthrocon, as to when they may start construction. Which is good, since it gives me time to save more money for it, and I want them to take as much time as needed so it ends up looking good. I don't know if they will want to make all those straps, though. Or I could just pester a local friend who works leather, and see if he wants the challenge. ;)

I was going to ask if the costume would have dangly bits too, but then I read that paragraph
