Zed Zeppelin never did much for me. Especially the first 4 records. They were played to death on the radio and the fans of LZ seemed to be burn-out morons where I grew up. Though,I hate to admit it, lately I've been listening to Houses Of The Holy and In Through The Out Door and enjoying those records. Robert Plant's voice is deeper and less annoying and the music is much more diverse and well produced.

I think "Houses" was probably their greatest achievement. They got away from their hard, thrashing, screeching lyrics and went for a much gentler tone, culminating mostly with "The Ocean" "Rain Song" (which I think is their greatest song ever, sorry "Stairway" fans) and "Over the Hills". A lot of the songs dealt with mysticism and fantasy. Sure, it was a "drug ride" too, I guess. I don't know anyone who could listen to "Over the Hills" and not believe for a moment, they weren't stoned out of their minds writing it. *^^*

Too bad they couldn't tame John Bonham's dino drumming. He tends to be so heavy when he doesn't need to be. Though he had great chops and a quick foot, he lacked finesse. But I agree "Houses" is a great album.

It was their last great one. "Graffiti" and "Presence" lacked the drive, and you could just tell they were going downhill. That's what drugs do, people!!! *flails* it may be a great ride for a while, but sooner or later, your body says, "Enough." I think even if Bonham had survived, and stayed with the band, they were doomed anyway.

"In Through The Out Door" is actually a really good album. Much like "Houses" it's diverse and well produced. Excellent writing as well.

Chris has his moments. It's better when he doesn't see stars in front of the audience. I used to try and piss him off before a show, so he's not so "into" it. He tends to perform better when he isn't trying to impress everyone.
