First Born
The due date had been roughly estimated for the couple when it came to their child coming. The fosky was nervous that it would happen at a most unexpected time for them. That was why he made sure her family and his were close by so they wouldn’t be out when the day came. It was a morning and it found Nicholas looking out the window and tapping his right foot nervously and his tail swishing for the same reason. His wife Michelle looked to her husband from the sofa with a smile. “Honey, it’ll be alright,” she cooed.
“My love I can’t help but feel nervous about you and the baby,” he stated and went to her side. “With if something were to happen to him or her? I wouldn’t be much of a father if something did. And then there’s you.” He took her paws into his.
“Nicholas, I’m going to be fine,” the mink said and smiled. “Nothing will happen to me or our child.”
“Maybe I’m acting a little silly,” he then said after looking into her golden colored eyes for a bit and seeing how sure the female was.
“Maybe not. My dad was when my mom was pregnant with me.”
“I guess she told you that during one of your talks.”
“Oh yeah.” Michelle giggled. “Dad was so worried about her leaving the house even!” The couple laughed at that but it was then cut off short since the female suddenly stopped after gasping. “Oh my!”
“What is it?!” Nicholas exclaimed.
“My water broke!” That was the three words her husband had been expecting but yet it still had a moment of freezing for Nicholas. He then sprang into action, getting his wife up and waddling her to the car before driving off to the hospital. Along the way the guy called up the family and even Leilani and Reno to let them know what was going on. The sea otters couldn’t visit of course but the female wanted to know what would happen.
The wedded couple made it to the hospital just in time as the pain really began to hit the mink. The doctor and a couple of others were waiting for the two since Nicholas had called ahead. They got her on a wheel chair and into the delivery room. Michelle was put into the right grab and Nicholas grabbed her paws. “Ma’am, you’ll be in good hands,” the doctor, a male alligator stated. “I’ve been with many first-time moms and nothing bad ever happened to them.”
“That’s all I need to know,” the fosky replied, smiling with relief. Michelle began to say something but was cut off as the real pain for her began.
“Just a deep breath and push!” she was told by the doctor. The mink let out a painful grunt. Her grip on Nicholas’s paws got tighter.
“Very good! Again when you can!” The female did so with a cry this time and tears began to go down Michelle’s cheeks.
Time seemed to drag on for the couple. But with every push, the mink felt the end coming. Finally at last they heard the doctor say he could see the head. The mink did so with another cry and it was over with her panting. Then it was heard; the sound of a newborn crying. Nicholas let out a relieved laugh and covered his eyes with his paws. “It’s a boy and a heathy one,” the doctor announced.
“A son…” Michelle whispered with happiness.
In just a bit he was cleaned off and handed over to the new mother who had helped form the new father in sitting up. They looked and saw that their new son had the mink’s tail but the foksy’s ears. And looking showed he also had her eyes but his fur color. “Ohhhhh…” Michelle cooed as their son saw his parents for the first time. “Look at him Nicholas; he’s so beautiful.”
“We’re actually parents,” the older male whispered and kissed his wife on the cheek. The newborn began to make soft cooing noises. “So… what shall we call him?”
“I think… Danny…” the mink replied and then took a moment to think on it. “Yes… I think it’s perfect for him.”
“I think so to.”
The new parents were then told that visitors could come in. The family did and Nicholas even faced time Leilani and Reno. Their son was still a bouncing bundle of energy but the mother sea otter was holding a female sea otter who had her husband’s eyes but the same fur as the older female sea otter. Already the female pup had some black hair growing. Leilani and Reno then told Nicholas and Michelle if they could to come down to the wedding they were having which would be in a few month’s time. That would give the fosky and mink time to think it over.
