Next stop, Tokyo. The audience there loves The Beach Bears so much, they kept asking for more songs, even after they had run out. Dipper manages to provide them with a show stopper.

I had always wanted to sing this song, and having Dipper do it fit well, as his voice is similar to the original artist. I found a phonetic spelling of the words and checked my pronunciation with my wife, who is Japanese. I impressed a number of her friends with this, too. The song itself, while sounding very happy and perky, is actually quite sad. Sukiyaki is not it's original name, but Ue O Muite which means I Look Up. The first lines means "I look up when I walk to keep my tears from falling, remembering those happy spring days, but tonight I'm all alone." This is actually typical of Japanese songs, which are quite often very sad. The idea of turning The Flower Girl into a guardian was inspired by peterandcompany peterandcompany. I have no idea if my guardians are anything close, but the idea has stuck, and other characters seem to get a guardian as the story unfolds.

The attention might just be getting to Dipper's head, though. The guardian concept you've gone with is kind of interesting; ordinarily I don't much care for it, but their interactions were kind of fun, e.g. "How does she DO that??" :).
Also, out of curiosity: how much of the band's doings are actually based on The Beach Boys? I know nothing about them, and I was wondering.
Very little is based on actual events of bands.
I read the lyrics you put on the song only version. That really is a sad song, but it sounds so bright and happy. At some point in our lives I think many of us would relate to this song particularly if you have out lived someone very dear to you.
