Love on Island
Otter 8th B-day
What that would be was Alexis’s birthday which came in May. And what would make this even more special is that there were some other visitors coming to New Cyana. About a week before found Alexis getting up and heading to the kitchen for something to eat. Her mother was up and smiled when she saw her daughter. It warmed her heart like that since her son was becoming more like her husband, and the younger female was becoming more like her every day. “Good morning,” the mother otter said. “You excited for your birthday coming up?”
“Yes mom,” Alexis answered and sat at the table. The older otter stopped since her daughter had never called her that before.
“Wait… you won’t say momma anymore?”
“I’m getting too old for that.”
“I know… you’re a big girl.” It still broke the mother otter’s heart. She told her husband.
“I’m so sorry to hear that honey,” the bigger male told her and hugged the love of his life. “It breaks my heart to since it shows our little sea flower is growing up. There’s not a pill I can give her, or something I can unplug. The only thing we can do is treasure these moments even more before she becomes a grown female.”
Alexis still called him daddy which gave him some relief. Even so, the little sea otter showed she still loved the older female otter as her mother very much. Rio had a small talk about that with the mother sea otter as her children but the youngest had at one point called her mommy but had since stopped. The first time was heart wrenching, but the love they had for their parents never went away. Nicholas also had a good point that even when they became teenagers those feelings, while buried, were still there. What the fosky didn’t say was that there was a chance the Palm’s children might be like that and that his would have a higher chance of being a bit closer to him and Rio. This was due to him being like that in the past.
The day then came and some fishing had happened the night before and the early morning so there was fresh food. Alexis and her family were here first at the beach nearby the entrance docks. It was a perfect location for size and swimming. The little sea otter today had a new swimsuit that was white. Even if got wet, that wouldn’t be a problem. Her crystal necklace was on of course. While her parents and brother got things set up, she was out a bit so they could see her, but enough that it gave the feeling of space. Alexis then turned her head and saw Jack and his family coming up. She saw all of them but the little male stick with her family, and he came over to her. The little male was only wearing swim trunks. “Hey Jack,” Alexis said sweetly.
“Yeah, happy birthday,” he replied.
“You know I’m glad you came, right?”
“Yeah.” The folfsky looked out towards the water. Suddenly the female otter noticed the other guests were coming in.
“Come on, I think the others have arrived!” Alexis stated, her right arm and paw coming out which then grabbed Jack’s left arm.
“Hey!” he stated but was still pulled over towards the new comers.
“Perfect timing!” her father said. The two children looked at the others. Alito and Shemyay were here with their son. The younger Anubian Jackal was black like them but had his mother’s hair and eye color. She in the meantime was pregnant again and the two knew it would be a girl. Next to them was another Anubian Jackal, but one with very dark brown fur. There were also two female sea otters about the same height Alexis’s mother. One even had a husband and kids to. These sea otter were from the same native island as the first older female sea otter.
“Alexis, you remember my friends, right?” she asked her daughter. They had been here for the wedding of her and Alexis's father and when the children were born. They were from her native island and didn’t come out as often though.
“Oh you’ve grown!” the first stated. “You’re like your mom when she was that little!”
“I’m inclined to agree,” the second said.
Nicholas then turned to the other guest. “I don’t think we’ve met before,” the fosky said.
“Yes, this is my cousin Bernard,” Alito commented. “He’s visiting from the Bahamas. We heard about Alexis’s birthday and figured he should come since he’s going to make some conch salad.” The Palms had allowed this since not only did Alito and Shemyay’s son know Jack and Alexis, but also to taste what his cousin could do.
“Yes, a special treat for a special lady,” the second Anubian Jackal replied with an accent.
“I’ve never had it before,” Rio said.
“Oh then you’ll like this,” Alito commented. “He’s a master of making it.”
Bernard began by taking some conchs that had been caught in the morning and began on a table. At the same time, Alexis’s dad, Nicholas, and the other husband began to work on the other food. The sea otter and Anubian Jackal had an instant connection not only because of being island natives, but also due to being good sea food cooks. The females chatted with each other. What amazed everyone but Alito was how fast Bernard got the salad ready. And everyone loved it and it went perfectly with the food. “My god this is good,” one of the sea otters said. “You really know your stuff.”
“Thank you,” Bernard replied, pleased that the rest liked it. “It’s what I do for a living. I was doing this stuff with my granddaddy. I learned all my stuff from him.” The boat Alexis’s family had was also here which was used for diving off of and into the water. But that was done after the food and cake had been consumed. The birthday tune was sung for Alexis and she blew out the candles. While her gifts were nice, the little sea otter loved that Jack had been here. But now summer was coming and that would mean more fun in the water.

So with that, now their story for the next grade can be in the same months as the coming year.
