Relic of The Past
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
"Hey... This is familiar... Isn't this that book old book from many years ago? I recognise that picture. And is that a mechanical pencil? No... A mechanical pencil is not made of crystal, nor being able to glow that brightly... Why is it here? I don't know what it is, but it feels powerful..."
A simple picture from first glance but very coplicated in the details. The concept is "simplicity over the immense depth", trading of surface complexity for quality and refinement. The shading of the water alone took 7 hours in total. The piece has worked my pencil techniques to the limit, that even some details were unable to be registered by the photo taking.
This has a significant backstory related to IRL. Sadly the old book is already gone, sent away by my family to the recycle center just 1 month ago. It was actually a milestone for the FIRST landscape art piece drawn in my childhood (the image recreated on the book is exactly the drawing style from that time). That was also the time when I still held creavity for drawing fantasy, hence this was marked with the pencil shaped "relic". In essence, this is a tribute to my past.
Also a note: everything here was drawn to scale except the reflections of the bird-shaped spirits, I struggled with that due to the difficulties of adding reflections of already small pale coloured entities into a dark background. It was my first attempt of using an eraser to carve out figures in an existing background, so it didn't turn out perfect. There's the idea for the next piece.
