A large fox floats over to the sleeping human and prods him with a paw, attempting to wake him up. “Hey, wake up," the fox comments in a fairly cheerful voice though kept at a tone intended to not startle. “We're almost here."
“Uh, what?" the human utters in a very groggy manner, half-heartedly trying to push the prodding appendage away. He then raises a hand over his eyes to shield it from the lights of the ship. He stares at the fox floating upside down a few inches from his head, not fully realizing what's going on and half assuming his eyes are playing tricks on him.
“Well hi there!" the fox speaks again in the same cheerful manner, attempting to be friendly to the groggy human.
Having finally woken up enough to actually notice that there is a predator right next to his head the human cries out in alarm and scoots back as far as he can on the bed from the fox, slamming his head against some sort of wall behind him. He then quickly recoils at the pain and his hands shoot back to cover the now aching head out of a reflex to try and protect it from further harm.
Even with that distraction he continues trying to push himself as far away from the floating fox as possible. “Please don't eat me!" he pleads.
This seems to only make the fox angry and the expression causes the human to try and push even further in the wall as if pushing just a bit more could make him go right through it in an effort to protect himself. The fox speaks again though the tone of voice is no longer cheerful but has a somewhat offended tone.
“That's a very rude thing to say to someone who had the courtesy to wake you up."
The human stops trying to back away and just stares at the fox for a good minute or so, as if his brain had shut down completely and needed time to recover. Without even thinking, without even his eyes moving he speaks up, “So you're not going to eat me?"
The fox laughs at the comment, making a show of all of its teeth in the process. “You're silly," it pipes in with the cheerful tone having returned. The fox begins to float towards the human, not making any sort of motion of any of its limbs in the process, a sort of sadistic grin on its face as it begins speaking again. “Do you honestly think that in a place like this they would actually let anyone eat someone else?"
The human looks around and notices the very white, almost sterile environment, with several rows of beds lining the entirety of the cabin. In fact other than a single little hallway there are beds covering the entire area, almost reminiscent of a sleeping car in a train. Blushing slightly the human drops his hands down.
“I guess you're right," he apologizes.
The fox laughs again at the comment. “Besides, humans taste horrible. Way too much fat on them and not nearly enough muscle to even make it worth it."
The human stares at the fox a moment as if trying to tell if the fox is joking before slowly raising his arms back up again.
“Just don't," the creature speaks in an annoyed tone.
The two of them sit in silence for a while after that, the fox looking over the side of the bed and further down into this cabin for some message that seems to being played that the human is only just aware even exists, giving the human plenty of time to get a good grasp of what things are, in particular the contrast between the two. Whereas the human is nothing special to look at, a little overweight and of only average height the fox is particularly large, almost the size of a wolf and is in very fit condition. The fox is a little more oddly colored at that, with one of its ears and one of the forelegs being of a white color rather than the standard brown the other ear and foreleg posses. The fox also has heterochromia with the fur over one of the eyes possessing a large brown patch. The human, however has somewhat short blond hair and green eyes. Finally the human seems to be wearing a white gown of some sort while the other is wearing simple looking green clothes, though how it is able to dress itself without any thumbs is a mystery.
“So you're not going to eat me?" the human asks again finally, breaking the silence.
The fox stares at him for a good moment before sighing. “Look. Let me put this in a way you can understand. Just think this through. First, if I intended you any at all harm why would I wake you up beforehand? Second why would I leave you completely unrestrained where you can strike back at me? Third why would I do it where there are so many witnesses to what I would do? And finally why the hell is the first thought that comes into your head when seeing me is me eating you? Is there something wrong with you?"
The human blushes slightly and looks away, avoiding the fox's eyes. “I'm sorry."
“That's better," the fox huffs for a moment before looking over to the side again.
“So um… what are you?"
The fox doesn't even bother to look back at the human but does roll their eyes. “Someone that is being very rude to."
“I'm being serious."
“As am I," the fox comments dryly, growing tired of the conversation and begins to float away. “Look. I'm not a kitsune if that's what you're asking. Beyond that what difference does it make? I'm Mige by the way."
“Oh! I'm Richard. Nice to meet you," the human comments quickly and automatically. After a moment he seems to have realized something and speaks up again, “I should have probably said that first, huh?"
“Yes, you should have," Mige replies flatly.
Trying to find some way to change the subject Richard decides to change the topic by trying to figure out something that is both strange and obvious to him. “So why are you upside down?"
Mige laughs again at the comment. The ease by which the fox seems to change emotions makes Richard wonder whether or not Mige is just unstable or is simply over-emphasizing every response on purpose. “I do this because it makes things so much sillier than normal. Can you think of how it makes everything look when everyone is running around all serious on the ceiling? Of course when in space there really isn't anything as exact as up or down, just where they put the gravity generators. I've seen ships like this where they don't even bother with gravity generators and line all the walls with beds too."
The human stares dumbfounded for a moment or two in response, trying to decide what to make of this floating fox. He ends up concluding that this fox is just some child in their species that decided to play with the strange human, at least that's the impression he gets from how the fox has been acting thus far.
“I see," the human responds in such a manner to simply humor the fox as Mige looks to the side again. “Why do you keep doing that?"
“Huh?" Mige asks, trying to figure out what he's asking about then figures it out. “Oh, I'm just listening to the announcements. I wanna know how long it'll be before we leave."
“What announcements? I can't hear anything."
Mige flicks their ears for a moment in a gesture of sorts, “did you think these things were entirely for show? They're playing a message letting each cabin know when they can leave."
"I suppose." Richard comments before the statement fully sinks in. "Where are we leaving to?"
"Where else would we be? We're on the transport," the Fox looks up from moment while hesitating, as if trying to remember, "Izaea just outside of Foznetal waiting for a shuttle to let us onto the station."
"What station?" He asks, not recognizing the name the slightest bit.
"Attention, passengers in compartment A sixty-two to A seventy-five, please begin to make your way to the designated airlock. The shuttle will be docking in a few minutes. Your belongings will be waiting for you at baggage claim inside the station after you have all gone through processing and customs."
"About time," Mige comments turning away from Richard and moving off into the cabin and towards an exit, following the crowd.
"Wait, we're in space? We're going to space station?" He shouts, causing some of the others to look at him as a strange look on his face causing him to blush.
"Well of course," Mige laughs, his tail wagging a bit. "Where else did you think you were? Didn't you find it odd about the gravity being so low?"
"This can't be happening!" He begins chanting in an almost mantra like state and begins to hyperventilate and rock back and forth as his grasp of reality begins to shatter.
Mige stops for a moment, as if considering something whether or not to act, before floating back to where Richard is and speaks in a voice that seems far more deliberate than normal.
“Shh, calm down," Mige states, tail staying very still as he looks deep into Richard's eyes. The effect of the words seem to have a very dramatic effect as those words are uttered all emotion seems to drain completely from him, leaving into a very emotionally blank state. “There we go. Much better. I'm going to go out on a limb here and I want you to answer me as accurately as you can. What year do you think it currently is?"
Still very much under the calming effect of the voice he answers almost as if under a form of hypnosis. “Twenty fifteen."
“Unit, human, unit!" the fox half growls at him. “I need you to give me a unit. Honestly, why can't humans grasp that numbers are worthless without a unit is beyond me."
Richard stares at the fox a moment, as if struggling against something and is close to reacting at the insulting way Mige is addressing him but the calm over his mind stays completely intact and responds without any emotion, not really understanding why just saying the year as a number doesn't have any meaning to this fox. “Um, AD."
“Okay," Mige comments while looking up again, going over the math in his head. After the statement Richard would feel a sudden tension and the calm over his mind completely breaks, letting his emotions start to exist again. “I know what's going on now. Don't worry about a thing. Just stay close to me and I'll make sure you get completely sorted out correctly before I take my leave. At which point I can only hope they have you in good hands," Mige comments before starting to float off and head towards the exit.
“Um, okay," he shrugs getting out of the bed and following the fox. “What was that that just happened anyway? It was like I was about to have a panic attack and then I felt nothing."
Mige doesn't respond immediately but instead busies himself looking for the various arrows and people who are pointing the way to the shuttle. Eventually as they follow the crowd Mige speaks up again.
“Oh, nothing to worry about. Just a little trick I learned a while back. Pretty common one too, I might add. Not everyone can use it, though I suppose the bigger statement is not everyone is allowed to use it. Well, the way I used it is fine. But being able to manipulate emotions is a very tricky business. Only the calming ones are really allowed for the most part, and then only weak ones. But beyond that extremely useful, especially in peacekeeping efforts. You have no idea just how many instances I know of where being able to calm someone down and let them think rationally with a single command is useful."
Richard is about to comment again about that but they seem to arrive at the door everyone else is heading through. As soon as he steps through his mouth drops as he stares at the sight. The so called shuttle seems to be nothing more than a sort of freight elevator with windows on all sides allowing the passengers to look out at all the sights. After a moment of giving everyone enough time to get into the shuttle the doors close and a second later a hissing sound comes from the door and then with a small jolt the shuttle begins to move. Somewhat jarred by the motion Richard grabs at the rails along all of the walls of the shuttle. Mige, however, seems completely content sitting along the ceiling, or as much on the ceiling as it can be on such a structure since as soon as disconnecting with the ship they were from the gravity completely goes away, allowing for everyone inside to move about as they wish.
Wanting at least some sense of normalcy Richard tries to ignore the sensation of weightlessness and instead looks out the window to see just what he can see, still not completely convinced he's not dreaming it all or something. With the shuttle moving away Richard can see the ship that he had just left. It is a lot more simple a design than what he'd expect of the future, though he is definitely starting to feel that he has no choice but to accept that he's in space. On the other end he can see a few cables leading to a rather long and huge object that seems to be getting even larger with each passing second.
“Just how big is this thing?" He asks to no one in particular.
“About eight miles long, two and a half miles across," Mige comments, eliciting a glance from him as he notes that the fox is also looking out the window at the ever growing structure.
Richard's mouth drops as he continues to watch it grow larger. It is a marvel to him how something that size could be made and he can't even imagine just how much material would be required to make it, let alone any of the particulars. Even though there are signs that the station is clearly still under construction it does not diminish the impact of the site. The station is also not just one solid structure. Instead there seems to be two main layers to it. One of which seems to be stationary in relation to the shuttle. The other part seems to be spinning along at its own speed. Eventually, though, the shuttle gets too close to the station to really be appreciated as it becomes just one big stretch of metal so Richard decides to turn around and take a better look at the interior of their little area. Though Mige and himself are not the only ones in that little area, he is the only human.
Most of the others are leaning against the rails and looking out the windows themselves, though a few of them are staring inside and looking at their watches or wearing a strange sort of headset. It is somewhat disconcerting for him to be in such a different environment and yet if he discounted what all they looked like (a few seem to be wearing a sort of environmental suit and a few others look more like humanoid animals) they seem to be almost normal. The disparity between what he would think the future would be like and what he is seeing is enough to make him think that either that fox thing has him under a very strong illusion or he's just tripping really badly and they are really all just on a subway with normal people going about their day.
Mige floats closer to him as the shuttle jolts suddenly away from the station as it begins slowing down and then again when it makes contact with the station. The wall closest to the station opens up outwards and the people inside the shuttle begin to make their way through. Thinking it would be a rather simply matter to follow Richard starts to move towards the exit but Mige raises a limb to stop him, not making any effort to exit the small area. The fox waits until almost everyone else has already left before removing the forelimb and starting to move towards the exit.
