Friends and Rivals
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Scott Rogers couldn't believe his luck; he was in the final four of the Spontoon Island Speed Week! Two more wins meant he would be the world champion of 1940! It was amazing to think that his land plane, the TRIDENT, had been able to keep up with all these seaplanes, which were a lot more comfortable racing in the Spontoon Islands. As he entered the bar, a voice called,
"Hey, Scotty!" Scott looked over to see Tillie Sorenstein sitting on a bar stool.
"Hi, Tillie!" he replied, "Nice to see you here."
"Congratulations on making the final four;" said Tillie, "Billie's made it as well; which is a relief for Millie and me."
"I know;" said Scott, "Two more wins and the trophy is yours!"
"Yeah..." said Tillie, "After what happened to the plane last year, we're really determined to win this year."
"I can imagine;" said Scott, "This is only my first year racing, and I've made it to the finals. To be honest, I didn't think I would make it past the third rounds!" Both of them laughed.
"I have to admit," said Tillie, "You've got balls; flying that land plane over the south Pacific."
"Thanks..." said Scott. Neither of them knew what else to say, so Scott ordered two tall mugs of root beer and they relaxed at the water's edge as they drank them. After a few minutes, Tillie looked over at Scott and said,
"You know my sisters and I have to beat you, right?"
"I know;" said Scott, "And you know I can't let your sister beat me, right?"
"Yeah..." said Tillie, "But still, it's nice to have a friend."
"Sure is..." said Scott. He knew that Tillie was part of his stiffest competition, but no one ever said they couldn't be friends. He just hoped that if he won, it wouldn't ruin their friendship.
