The Gorgosaurus Experience
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
I've been edging around the idea of making a transformation themed artwork, which includes the transformation of myself into a Gorgosaurus female from the Walking with Dinosaurs movie, that got then found by Gorgon. (He's so sexy and fun to draw. And my thoughts are sometimes quite filled with him... XD )
Here, he is "helping" me to get rid of the scraps, that once were my hoodie and jeans (which is my preferred clothing). I kinda get the notion he has already something in mind with me.
After finishing the picture, I attempted to write a little short story to accompany this scene.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With shaking steps, I entered the lone clearing that was lit by the sparse sunlight while the rest of the forest interior remained in the twilight. Now, my orientation was completely lost and in my panic, I wasn't able to recall any details of my way, which had eventually led me there. In the middle of nowhere.
Since the first patches of small, green scales had appeared on my arms, I had been feeling a dull ache in my bones. My tightly aligned clothes, my preferred hoodie, and jeans told me my body had gained girth and the process hadn't reached its end, yet.
The memory of my arrival began to replay in my head, while I rested next to an overgrown tree and freeing my feet from the confining sneakers, that pressed relentlessly against my swollen feet.
“When does the tour start? Sorry, that I ask, but I am so eager to see your dinosaurs”, I heard myself asking, while I stood in the entrance hall with the tour guide. I felt very much under-dressed with my choice of clothes, but the bracelet around my right wrist told everyone that I was a participant of the platinum level tour, so nobody remarked my appearance in a negative way.
“Soon, but you may like to take a seat in our lounge. Julio will await you with one of his fine cocktail creations. He has already made up something, especially for you.”
The guide pointed with a fluid motion of his arm and hand to the entrance of the lounge, a dim-lit place with large windows, that offered a look at a primordial forest. What a view, I just thought and picked a place close to these windows. A man removed himself from the bar area, carrying a tray with a single glass, that held a vivid green liquid.
It was the said cocktail and after few exchanged words of greetings, they left me alone with the green cocktail. I took a quick sample of its smell and to my own surprise, it captivated me enough to take a sip.
I remembered how quickly I emptied the glass, but the rest about how I got into this forest and even why I was growing scales kept a mystery. Out of the sudden, I wondered about the little bracelet around my wrist and pulled my hand free from the black sleeve. A wave of shock crashed against my consciousness and it was not the apparent loss of the little plastic thing, that was now a part of the soil somewhere in the forest. Almost all of my fingers, but the index and thumb had shrunk away and claws had replaced my fingernails, that had always been prone to breaking off.
The paleontological knowledge in me left no room for any doubts in what kind of theropod I was transforming. That kind of enlightenment was enough to cause a strange feel, something close to a pressure in my stomach. My legs began to feel weak and I tumbled forward, trembling everywhere on my flailing body until I finally lost my footing and met the forest ground. Thud.
My bag landed somewhere between the ferns and spat out my drawing pad alongside with pencils and unfinished sketches.
I cringed on the ground as I fought back the pain from the fall, sensing my body was reacting with a sudden growth, that expanded my rib cage. Sharp ripping noises were emitted into the air of the dark forest as my hoodie revealed more of my new physique. Strangely enough, I wanted to witness what was going on with me, although I was quite more than bewildered and there was an undeniable urge to scream in panic. But the overwhelming effect of the change forced me to lay flat on my side as long as my muscles didn't obey me.
My jeans were the next giving way to the course of transformation as they weren't suited for covering the thick thigh muscle of a tyrannosaur. Numbness reigned over the lower part of my body, while the human anatomy shifted into the theropod one. But I could feel, how the forward pointing pubic boot bulged out and rested against my legs.
I panted desperately during the process as my body adapted to my new respiratory system, something that made me incredibly dizzy. But that was nothing against the moment when the front part of my face started to bulge out in order to form a snout. It frightened me and I twitched. At the same time, my mind was changing between human and dinosaur. And the tyrannosaur, one that relied on speed than on sheer power wanted to make her appearance the more my body got closer to her species.
With the last shaking sigh, the anxious human allowed the change to take over her and the mind of a Gorgosaurus fused with me. Soon, the raging panic and confusion turned slowly into calmness, despite the still present exhaustion.
***
I had no idea how long I had rested on my flank. The sun, that filtered through the canopy warmed the green and tan colored Gorgosaurus I had become. Still, there were the shreds of human clothes clinging to my chest and as well around the long, graceful legs. With them, a foreign smell surrounded me like a remnant from a distant past. I shook my head and blinked idly, coping with the new sensations that flooded me. Exhaustion had taken its toll on me, forcing me to lower my head until the end of my lower jaw touched the earthy ground. After all, my movements were more controlled instead of involuntarily twitches. The urge to get onto my feet was intense as I wanted to explore the forest, that surrounded me in dozens of green shades.
Vibrations traveled through the ground and I noticed a touch against my tail, that laid stretched out behind my hips. With widened eyes, I realized the presence of another Gorgosaurus, one that was clad in iridescent blue scales: a sight that fascinated and confused me at the same time. Although I tried to avoid that reaction, my body tensed and an unpleasant nervosity filled my mind, while he sniffed at me just to shake his head. Like me, the smell of these fabric scraps confused him, because it didn’t fit nor belong to me.
But for this problem, the male Gorgosaurus knew a simple solution. He let out a deep growl and proceeded with clamping his jaws around the ripped edges to get rid of this strangely smelling stuff on my body. My confusion peaked into a panic, causing me to kick helplessly with my legs as I wanted to scream, but nothing more than a suffocated snarl fell from my gaping jaws.
The head with the pointed crests flicked once and a huge portion of the black fabric found its new home in the shadows of the bushes, while the rest slid from my back and shoulders. Surprised and confused by the rather gentle act, I dared to look around me until my eyes met his expressive eyes.
“That’s much better, don’t you think? And to me, you look a way better without that stuff”, the blue Gorgosaurus said, still looming over me.
“I th-think, yes. I… I just thought you were going to eat me.”
The male managed to show a much calmer expression on his face with the black markings, that gave him a rather fierce look, but he kept his yellow eyes focused on me.
“No, I do not have THAT in my mind. Trust me. I am just curious because I haven’t seen you here before”, he reassured me with the certainty that was in his voice.
I calmed myself and rested my blue-grey eyes on him while being unable to deny that his markings and the vibrant coloration captivated me. “Well, I can’t even say how I ended up here...”
Indeed, I couldn’t access any memories about entering the forest and why these things were littered around me. They didn’t smell like as if I could eat them and I had no idea what I should do anything else with them.
In the meantime, the male Gorgosaurus took a step backward allowing me to stand up, wobbly, but I eventually stood on my feet. The gleaming yellow eyes wandered silently over my form and for sure, the blue Gorgosaurus male seemed to be amused about my unforeseen appearance in the forest, that was part of his territory.
“Well, you may come with me. Oh, before I forget… I am Gorgon”.
Gorgon bowed his head before his eyes looked into mine. In this moment, the instincts of the Gorgosaurus in me took over, overwriting the caution of the fading human side and I joined at Gorgon’s side. And we left this place with its irritating smells behind us.
