have you tried the fill hole option? that will create a single poly surface to fill the gap then you can slice it as much as you want should allow you to mold the shape of it without raising the poly count to much ^^;;

then again I just started reading up on 3D modeling and I don't know what program you are using

I am using 3D Studio Max.

The cap holes is nice sometimes, I forgot about that and will have to try that out X3

However, even filling holes won't do the job as you have to prepare your geometry before that.

yes but if you get it right it should cut your geometry down very nicely X3

least that's what my book says ^^;;

It really depends on how your model is structured, little tools wont solve anything and it is up to the artist to make the tool work lol

No I am making it for a game, and game's are very dependent on how many polygons you have in a scene at one time.
