Hey folks, that sword you see being carried by the wolf character in "City Girl Meets the Ancient One"...this is the real McCoy. This is in my collection of ancient weapons (hey, everybody needs a hobby - okay, so one of mine happens to be sharp, pointy things; I also do leatherworking, besides drawing and a few other things). It is known by various names: "war sword", "long sword", "bastard sword" and "hand-and-a-half sword". The blade is 37-3/4 inches long, 1-13/16 inches at the widest, 3/16 inch thick, 48-5/8 inches overall, and 3.0 lbs. It is fully battle capable and, yes, I do know how to *properly* fight with it (hint: it's not like you see in the movies). It can be used one-handed, with either shield or dagger in the other hand, or with both hands. I have a dagger that goes with it, which I normally carry on the right side. The "frog" (the part that actually retains the scabbard) is angled a bit for easier draw. Btw, the fox tail that you see in the photo is no longer attached - it unfortunately broke apart (I think a certain 4-footed one thought it would be a great cat toy), so I will eventually replace it with another.
