This fan cools a vital part of the technical infrastructure of an airport somewhere in South America. Taken by yours truly, several years ago. Also, this is a test upload using one of our new servers ^_^

THAT, has got to be one of the most comprehensive cooling systems I have EVER seen.

How did you get to see something like that?

I designed and coded the runway lighting control system at that airport.

*chuckles* Actually I've done stuff like this here in the US, when a cooling fan was going out and I couldn't shut down the server for three days while a new one came in.

If looks dumb but it works... *shrug*

sometimes, when the most redicliously complicated technologically advanced and totally epic cooling sytem goes down...it brings an it guy like me back down to earth when i see something like this.

just makes me laugh toumal!!

I can't tell you how many times I've seen hosting companies out here doing the same thing with their racks.... Then they wonder why they have so many hardware issues.

No this was Congonhas, Sao Paulo, Brasil.

ooh cool, hehe well cause once i saw a Documentary film her ein Argentina about the state the airports were under the control of the National Airforce (wich the no longer have the control, they were revoued). In a scene they were doing a hiddden camera inside the control tower (the guy who did the film used to work there) and showed that it was usual for the screen radar of the most important international airport to go blank for a few minutes XD

They had something similar in Congonhas: Their radio transmitter only works when it isn't raining. While it rains, the cable channel to the antenna is flooded and they cannot transmit, only receive.

It rains there almost every day.

Luckily they have a little handheld transceiver in the tower. But guess what, that one's broken too - it can only send, not receive :P

Everything works out. Since this thing is in south america, chances are very high that the image was taken on the southern hemisphere and thus was just accidentially flipped by Toumal's camera. I've attached a fixed version.
