Seven months have passed and word of the plan was beginning to spread threw the dragons. All thought it crazy and the one telling it first just as, but they had to admit to themselves at least it did have merit behind its reasoning. As a result Angel got more visitors. Not only that but others have decided to move to his place to live. Including the female with two of her children still alive and the male Angel first told the plan to. Angel saw almost every living dragon in that time. 

Near twenty were now in his cave when he decided it was time to now try it. " Friends!" he called loudly so the others would gather to him. 

Many talking amongst themselves only because they could. They all circle around him. " I have decided to try out my idea today. If my number is lost then you may stay here and have all I own. With what I have shown you and what you already know this place may let you live... If you can keep the young in check. I care not if I am liked or hated for what I am about to try but it must be done if a chance for future generations to come to be. I go now to the human homes and see if I may become their pet. If I am able I will come back in a year or two to tell you of my progress. I wish you all well as I leave and beware the humans so near." 

Angel turns to leave as the others watch. He had an idea and took a small amount of his gold and put it under his tongue before he finally left. For the first time in his life he flew high in the sky. Saw the ground under him and all on it as small. He got a thrill out of it like nothing else he had experienced. He saw the human dwelling tops and humans raise their arms at him in fear and surprise. Something that joyed him far more than he expected it to. 

Yet he resisted doing it too much as it would undo what he sought to do as he went in the direction of the box that carried Lady. Then he caught a faint scent of her in one of the great dwellings as he passed. It was late and there was a cave in the cliff-side he decided to take refuge in for the night. In the morning when it was later than when he remembered the humans in the camp leaving he decided to descend to the human dwelling and hopefully meet Lady before his end came. 

He circled and descended slowly before he landed in an open area. The humans ran from him. Including the ones with their weapons. It was a short time before he saw Knight leading several others behind him to attack. Angel stretched his limbs out and put his nose near flat to the ground. Knight gave a command, " Wait." Angel looked up but kept the pose then said difficultly, " Knight Angel see Lady." 

There was a bit of silence so Angel tried a different set of words. " Angel gift Lady. Knight get Lady." 

Still silence. He became more comfortable then laid down as much as he could. " Angel wait Lady. Angel gift Lady." 

They remained unmoved as Angel noticed more humans coming to him. Many with things to harm him. Others just mocked him. Eventually he saw her with a much older human. He stood and got the clump of gold out and set it in front of him before taking the pose again and saying, " Angel gift Lady." 

The dragon had to admit to himself he was starting to get good with human sounds. " Angel gift Lady gold. Angel want Angel be Lady pet. Lady good human. Angel gift gold be pet. Angel live." 

Lady starts to move closer to him and he becomes excited. She ignored the gold and touches the back of his head. He raised up and licked her hand before saying, " What Lady wish Angel do?" 

She grew surprised. " An angel should be free to fly as it wishes." 

The dragon became confused. " Angel fly carry Lady. Too?" 

She shook her head. " No you silly dragon. You should not be any's pet." 

Angel grew sad and said, " Dragon dying. Not many dragon. Dragon dying. Dragon be pet. Dragon live. Dragon become many. Dragon be thankful. Angel die not pet. Angel hunted humans not pet. Angel pet Lady protect Angel. Lady protect other dragon. Dragon be Lady pet. Dragon protect lady. Humans coming threw wood Angel meet Lady. Many beyond count. Noticed two days ago." 

The old human stepped forward. " How do you know this beast?" 

Angel looked at Lady a little confused and asked, " Lady wish Angel answer?" 

She puts her hand on his eye then under it. He liked her touch. " He is my father. He is the king of the land. Ruler of it. You should answer him." 

Angel licked her hand again before taking the pose for King. " King Angel live wood. Angel home many year. Angel hide. Angel safe. Now no safe. Human there. Must hide in new cave or be pet. Wish to be pet. Many human come threw wood. Destroy tree for hiding for fire. Fish and stag and wolf and young bear and bird and all other food hunted by human. Food run or die. Food become scarce. Home no safe long. Must find new home. Angel wish home Lady. Lady good human. Lady no harm Angel. Angel be Lady pet. Other dragon wish be Lady pet. Lady protect Angel. Lady protect dragon. Dragon protect Lady. Angel protect lady." There was a pause before King asked, " How many dragons wish to be our pets?" 

Angel became comfortable to a long talk. " Dragon no be King pet. Dragon be Lady pet. Lady pet. Lady good human. Angel no know King. Dragon must talk Lady. See what pet dragon do. Dragon be good pet. Dragon live. Dragon number grow. Dragon stay pet Lady." 

There was a silence. " How long do you think I will be alive Angel?" 

Lady finally asks breaking the silence. Angel turned to her, " Human alpha predator. Alpha predator live longer all prey. Dragon lives many century. Human must live longer. Dragon second predator human. Dragon pet many generation Lady." 

She became very surprised. " I'd be lucky to live for another three decades." 

The dragon raised it's head very surprised. " Angel live longer Lady? Not right alpha predator always outlive prey. Dragon human prey. Angel confused. Not important now. Must talk Lady Angel be pet. Other dragon waiting. Will see again year two maybe. Many human come. Wish protect Lady. Lady protect Angel. Lady protect dragon. Dragon protect Lady." 

King grew aggravated, " Enough of this. Kill the beast and mount it's head on my wall." Angel moved close to Lady. " 

Lady protect Angel. Angel reason Lady live." 

There was a pause from the approaching men to kill the dragon. She moved beside him and asked, " What do you mean I live because of you?" 

Angel moved his body behind her before saying. " Angel watched males chase Lady and caught Lady. Angel saw strange and interest mating rite. But no look right. Bring joy female be caught strong male. Is dragon way. Not done long time. Now only breed when safe and desire equal risk. That change dragon pet. Dragon chase dragon again. Angel got detracted. After mate Angel watched Lady be still. Angel curious Angel cautious. Thought dead. Decided Lady food. Mind on none would seek Lady because other human said Lady left for dead. Angel about eat Lady when Lady thanked Angel watching Lady. Angel surprised saw fire coming Angel hid and followed short distance next decided tired but could no sleep. Angel decide see Lady again. Next night Lady camp. Angel threw wood. Warned Knight other human. Was entertained and learned much. Lady good human." 

She scratched under his jaw and he raised it happily " I know. You have said it several times before. Is there anything else you wish to share?" 

Angel lowered his head to look at her face again. " Angel have gold. Lady wish Angel get Lady gold. Other dragon have gold too. Dragon gift gold Lady be pet." 

She curled her lips up and said, " That is not what I meant" 

Angel determined she was happy. " Angel glad Lady glad. Must talk Angel be pet. Then Angel share with other dragon. Other dragon be pet and live. Angel grown hungry. Wish eat first. Lady feed Angel meat like over fire camp. Food smell good." 

A large plate of cooked meat was presented to the dragon. By then the excitement of his presence was outlived. Only Lady and Knight remained with the dragon. Lady rubbing behind Angel's ear and enjoying it. Knight ready to kill Angel the moment he became hostile. The food was not even there when the dragon was drawn to the large platter. He picked up one of the chunks of meat and smelled it closely. After a minute he put it in his mouth and started eating it. " Smell better taste." 

He said after picking up another. " Lady wish meat? Much meat." 

He puts it close to her hand and she grabs it and takes a bite. She did not comment as the dragon takes another piece and offers it to Knight. Knight shook his head and the dragon ate the meat. By the time Lady was finished with hers the platter was empty. " Little mess. No blood clean. Angel glad." 

He starts licking his claws then licks Lady's hands clean. " Thank Lady. Now talk Angel be pet. Dragon be pet." 

She starts to rub under the dragon's chin again to silence it. " What do you expect from me? Why me?" 

Angel moves a little closer. " Lady no fear Angel. No wish harm Angel. So Lady good human. Angel wish stay with Lady. Angel be pet. Live cliff. Big many dragon live. Much food many dragon live be pet. Dragon protect Lady. Lady protect dragon. Lady live. Dragon live." 

She began to see what the dragon wishes from her. " And after I die?" 

The dragon became confused. " Why Lady die? Human alpha predator. Dragon be Lady pet. Dragon be sure Lady live. Lady not live. Dragon be Lady child pet. If Lady child be good human. Dragon be pet only good human. Dragon no live pet no good human. Dragon be treat no good be pet no good human. Dragon be treat good. Dragon happy. Angel happy. Dragon wish happy all. Happy and live." 

The dragon raised it's head from Lady's lap. " Angel glad now. Angel see Lady glad. Talk again when sun again rise. Angel tired. Dragon see Angel here. No want dragon fear Lady. Angel in new cave." 

The dragon stands up. He licks her hand before taking flight. He goes to the cave that he spent the night in and waited the one coming to see him. Which was surprising because he told the others he would come back sometime. He waited till the other landed before greeting him. " Hello neighbor. What brings you here so soon? I've been gone less than a day." 

He nods his head. " We have discuss it and we have decided that you alone is not a good idea. We voted and it was decide I be here with you as well. Sense I'm the one that spread the idea of being human pets around. If the humans wish I not be here then I will go back and not return." Angel took a moment to think about it. " The best option. We shall see in the morning. So how close are the humans to the cave?" The other dragon lowered his head. " They draw closer. They hunt all they can and spread deeper into the wood. It will not take long for them to come to the cave. The young ones are afraid. The only thing that keeps the others from going is the chance of hope you bring." Angel becomes settled for the talk. " Things have gone better than I thought. Not only have they not killed me but they fed me. I strained my throat a little using so many of their words but it was worth it. I think she wish some of our gold as an offering but I'm not sure. I know they value gold yet she ignored it when I gave it to her earlier. Humans are confusing." Angel looks out of the cave. " If you do not mind I wish to think about what has occurred today. Alone." The other dragon moved deeper into the cave until he went out of sight. Angel moved to the cave entrance and sticks out his head out the opening. He sees Lady on an extension of the great human dwelling. She seemed to be looking his way. He grew happy in seeing her and did not bother thinking of the issues he should have been. Instead he just stared at her. It was dark before Maid brought her inside. He moved in as well and went to sleep.
