Giant Fruit Bat - Cincinnati Zoo 08-25-2014
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
We will now have equine penis envy as the male bats have, not stallions, the highest testicle to body mass ratios by far. The two giant fruit bats I saw were on the small side, in that regard, but still pretty impressive, relatively speaking.
They also have notably long and agile tongues.

I went to center metering and blew out the background to try to get a decent exposure of the bats. The legs in most shots were grossly overexposed, but this a few others were decent.
I have a few ideas for the future now.
2. Use exposure adjustment to add a couple of f/stops to the exposure so that the dark areas are lightened. This is more critical with center weighted or assessive exposure metering but helps with spot mode as well.
3. If all else fails, go to manual exposure. At least with digital cameras you can get quick feedback to see if you are doing it about right or not.
4. Learn to use an imaging editing program. If possible, shoot RAW format pictures and do all exposure/processing in it.
Those are my suggestions on how to improve these types of photos. They will never be perfect, but you can do an acceptable job with them.
