I forget the name of this type of formation, but it looks a lot like honeycomb.

I was hoping that the old rock hound could tell me what it really is called.
This pattern is indicative of a grown structure:

There's symmetry from the "raining" of sediment particles to build-up the cone.
What we see here appear biological in pattern. Notice the lines of tinier holes surrounding around the larger ones... those are where multiple structures met to merge into a larger one. With stones, you see a "fault line" when that happens. With living organisms, they blend as they "heal" together.
This is what I base my assumption on.
