1. What is your IRL biological gender? (male, female, other (be specific)) Male
2. What is your IRL sexual orientation? Straight
3. What is your ethnicity IRL? white
4. What country/state do you live in? Connec ticut
5. How old are you IRL? 57
6. Do you own or wish you owned a fursuit? If so, why?Yes; two.
Opinion:
1. Do you think stereotypes about furries are correct in any way? Yes; A LOT of furries ARE young, gay, males who are video gamers.
2. In what ways do you think they are wrong? It's not always about the yiff.
3. What do you think it means to be a furry? An appreciation of/for the anthropomorphic. Period.
4. Do you think that the furry community challenges any norms of society? Which ones and how?Where do I begin? I think EVERYTHING about furry is a challenge of the status quo.
5. Do you think women are more “free” inside the furry community? In what ways? Not really. There's a lot of undersocialized, over hormoned 18 year olds out there.
6. Do you think homosexuality is more acceptable inside the furry community? In what ways? In EVERY way; furry IS a gay community, for the most part.
7. Do you think heterosexuality is repressed inside the furry community? How and/or why? I think the assumption is that most male furs are gay. As a straight, but tolerant fur, I've never felt any pressure.
8. Do you think heterosexuality is still as dominant as it is outside of the furry community? I think that the culture here is basically gay oriented. .
9. Do you see any kind of power struggles or hierarchies inside the furry community? Describe them. Not so much any more. There seems to have been a pro yiff/anti yiff schism a few years ago, if Youtube posts are to be believed
10. In what ways, if any, do women benefit from being in the furry community? Same as the rest; it's a community of like minded indibviduals.
11. In what ways, if any, do LGBT benefit from being in the furry community? Well, Gayness is the norm here....
12. In what ways, if any, do minority groups benefit from being in the furry community? The fandom has a large African-American community
13. Do you think all groups of people, such as women or LGBT, are welcome in the furry community? Yes! Furries are VERY open minded, as they should be.
14. Do you think that society as a whole could benefit from any ideals found in the furry community? What might they be? Yes. The tolerance and openess would be refreshing.
15. Do you have any other comments on the furry community relevant to sex, sexuality, gender, gender equality, etc.?
I've enjoyed my three years in the fandom. I've felt well accepted as an old, white, straight guy.
Not that there aren't straight furs. I am one, and many of my friends are. Others are Bi, lots are Gay. But, if you look at the art and literature here, you can't help but conclude that this is a VERY Gay friendly place.
A) the person get's turned around, maybe even coming out of the closet themselves. OR
B) they get their ass kicked by lovely lady karma, ranging from being fired from work to, if the writer does that kind of thing in his or her work, some sort of 1,000 ways to die sort of thing where they get hit by a comet or something.
And about that cub thing, that would be good for Law and Order: Special Victums Unit. Just hear me out: someone is found murdered and it appears to be a sex crime of some sort (sorry about being vague, but it's not like I have a script or anything), stuff happens, stuff happens, and they trace the victum's last known location being at a furry con. After a walk about, showing the detectives (and by an extant, the non-furry veiwers) finding out about the fandom, fursuiting, etc. Until the find the vic's both and find some boxes and that the vic and (let's say for now, the vic's a he) he's friend or boyfriend or whatever as been partly using the booth to sell cub porn behind closed doors, and maybe the (boy)friend killed the vic because he no longer wanted to be doing this, because it's degrading or whatever and kills him so he can't talk, or maybe an highly outranged fur found out and went all "I'm holyer then thou and that's why you have to die" on him, or maybe even (but less likely) someone unreleted to the fandom who got the wrong idea about it through the cub porn, and they also try to convict the (boy)friend (wether he killed the vic or not) over the cub porn, with would show the two sides of the issue: on the side Elliot Stabler would be on (if he was still there), "It's child porn, just drawn. It let's pervets get what they want through a loop hole in the law. How do we know that they (the pervs) will stop at this?" side. And the defendent's side (and also the side of the defense lawyer for the episode that usually makes me pissed off on how they can defend what that person did), "I have the right of free speech on my side. They're (the subjects) are not humans. No one's getting hurt." side. The result (if done right) could be an episode the rivals CSI's Fur and Loathing episode.
Man, that's alot of words. O.O
(I still cannot see what the guys see in other guys, but, hey, I am sure that they cannot see what I see in gals, so we are even.)
