Australian Laughing Kookaburra
This is the first time I've uploaded to SF. Generally I post all my photography on DA and FA.
I'm posting this picture just to enter the SF Animal Photography Contest.
Dang, I love this photo. I consider this one of the best pictures I've taken.
The Kookaburra (genus Dacelo) is nicknamed the "bushman's clock" for its habit of singing loudly (which sounds like laughter) at dawn and dusk. Its a type of Kingfisher. Rodents and insects make up most of its diet; but they will also sometimes catch and eat poisonous snakes.
