Dipper gets sick from exposure, and Birch gets so concerned how that affects the contest, that Stargazer has some rather sharp words with him. He takes over Dipper's part in the song, and Dipper gets better rather quickly with lots of rest, then talks his way back into the show.

I have always loved this song, especially one note, about halfway through, which in the original is a cross-voiced minor second, which makes it an interval virtually demanding to be resolved. With Stargazer singing the melody, though, I could not duplicate the effect. None the less, I love the three part harmony at the end.
