Paranoid Android [Acoustic] (Radiohead Cover)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
I was bored so I did something new and recorded some acoustic stuff. Some acoustic stuff other people wrote.
... and by other people, I mean Radiohead.
This took a few hours. There was a vocal track, but I left it out because it's a bit pitchy and it's too late at night to re-record it (dorm quiet hours and all).
There are some fuck ups, and in all the multi-track confusion, I sort of accidentally left one of the guitar tracks misaligned, so the time gets a bit wonky at the end. Hey, though, if you listen to the last ten seconds or so on their own, it sounds like a Western soundtrack, as my bassist pointed out to me.
He didn't play on this, though. All me, again. I'm lonely here q.q
I did this not in the style of the original Radiohead song, but instead in the style of the brilliant acoustic cover by Tosin Abasi (from Animals As Leaders), and Matthew Hemerlein.
You can watch that video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2e3WcsCHQY
I used a compressor mic to record the rhythm parts, and a dynamic mic to record the guitar solo (as well as the rhythm tracks during that section of the song).
For one guitar track (I believe it's the left-panned one), I didn't use a pick in order to get a softer, more mellow sound. For the other, I used a strange pick made by Dava called a "control grip" or something like that. Everything but the picking edge is a soft rubber, so it has a bit of an interesting softer, but still strong, attack to it, and isn't as harsh as a normal pick.
The bass track was played with my fingers, and I EQed and mixed it so that very little of it actually comes out, just the very bottom end, something like the synth bass sine-wave tracks dubstep producers put underneath their tracks that aren't super-audible, but that really effectively fill in empty-space through the lower frequencies and lend a bigger, fuller sound to the rest of the track.
