To a Viridi, a Druid is someone of the highest authority as they are the ones to bind / awaken Nether Dragons for them and their families. With Sylvester being part Badlands Venkat, he was raised to always show the proper respect for people of authority, which he regimentally drilled into his family (with mixed success).

... Also, it looks as though not only is Desmond's brother Simon "annoyed" with his lack of the use of the honorific "druid" but so is Simon nether-dragon.
Naturally, Chani is Desmond's mate and life-partner, so he should have the privilege of calling her by her true name ... which of course she extends to the entire family. :)
Yeah, but tradition and etiquette with druids is hard to look past for Viridi. Especially with so few of them nowdays.
