KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

First, our world was part of the All-Planet, which circled around the All-Star. Eventually the people on the All-Planet caused war with one another, causing the First Calamity, exploding the All-Star and the All-Planet, spreading stardust and planetdust throughout the Nothingness. However, it is in the nature of planetdust and stardust to come together with itself, so instead of one large planet and one large star, many smaller planets and stars formed all across the Nothingness, one of which was our world, Quadra.

At first, Quadra was all covered with water, until the Second Calamity, which caused a gigantic volcano to emerge from the ocean into the air. Eventually the heat of the volcano settled, and rain made it wet, causing plants to grow. Soon, the creatures of the ocean coveted the delicious plants on the land, and their children came to be able to crawl onto the land. Soon, some of the children stayed on the land entirely.

This large continent became dominated by the dyno-creatures, large animals that stood so tall they could drink the clouds, and step so loudly they could make the ground quake. This remained until the Third Calamity, when a large chunk of planetdust that had formed in the Nothingness without quite becoming a planet, came down upon Quadra, and landed so powerfully it broke the land up into eight major continents, and many smaller islands, which spread from the momentum across the surface of the ocean. The dyno-creatures, as they were the tallest, were most affected by the calamity, and almost all were destroyed. Some came to have wings, and became birds, others became smaller, becoming reptiles and snakes. A small few of them became the first creatures ever to worship the Gods. They beseeched the Gods of Fire to grant them immunity to the flames and smoke caused by the Calamity, and also to grant them wings so they could escape it. The Gods of Fire took pity on these few, and transformed them into Dragons, but determined that huge creatures would never dominate the land again, so they made them that they would remain very powerful but exceedingly rare.

The one continent now eight, there was no longer a single creature that dominated the land with their size and power. This made room for the ape animals, who had already begun to trade the thickness of their fur and their speed and claws for greater intelligence, to continue upon this path of the mind. Apes across the eight continents did this at the same time, and eventually they became the many smoothskin species. Once they became smart enough, smoothskins became the second creatures to worship the Gods, and the Gods granted them even more intelligence, accelerating their progression along this path. Soon they could create writing, and buildings, and music, and even machines. Finally, they created boats, which meant that smoothskins could travel between the eight continents and visit each other. This soon led to the Fourth Calamity, as the Humans of the Urio Continent became the first creatures on Quadra to start war on others, as people had once done on the All-Planet. The Humans had retained such power to create children that they were beginning to run out of land and resources, so they sought to take things from the other smoothskins that they thought they needed. War devastated all the continents, and fostered hatred between the smoothskin species, and it was many years before peace between smoothskins could return.

However, eventually the smoothskins came to hate war more than they hated each other, and realised they could achieve great prosperity through trade and cooperation. This was also made possible by the discovery of magic, would could help provide all people with an abundance that made war unnecessary. Although smaller conflicts would arise again, once the Fourth Calamity was over, there was never again a time when all smoothskins were at war with all other smoothskins as they had been. However, Humans again threatened to dominate all the other smoothskins, even in peace. Their power to create children was so great that they could make hybrids with all the other species, and eventually, their hybrid children would be indistinguishable from themselves, meaning that populations of humans living with other smoothskins would eventually be as if they were only human. Although most of the people didn't have any fear of this, and even saw it as natural and good, a few of the most powerful did, fearing that all their uniqueness would eventually be lost. They were also still angry over the events of the Fourth Calamity, and feared that once again, Humans would wage war across all the continents, and this time, their numbers would be so great and their war so powerful that all other smoothskins would be destroyed. In their anger and fear, the greatest magicians of each of the intelligent species, including one dragon and even one human, formed the Nine Mad Mages. Together, they would create the spell Genocide, and the time of its existence would be called the Fifth Calamity. The spell travelled all over the land of Quadra, and sought out every Human that existed, even any person with partial human blood. If it could it would transform them into another smoothskin species. Even a person that was only an eighth elf would become fully an elf. If there was an animal nearby, it would transform them into a Beastkin, a hybrid of a beast creature and a human, who remembered nothing of once being human. The spell destroyed all the Humans it could not transform, and any who tried to use magic to resist or damage the spell. The spell also destroyed all things that Humans had created or designed, all buildings, art, music, writings, machines, everything that was made by Humans was destroyed. Only our memories of Humans remain, and the sight of our Seers, or else there would be no sign that they had ever existed.

It has been only twenty years since the Fifth Calamity, and its devastating effects were incredibly destructive to all people of Quadra, even the non-humans. Since a great deal of the structure of Quadra's civilisation had been created by Humans, or designed by them, much was lost, and since many people depended on Humans and Human things to survive, many non-humans died due to the Calamity as well. Most of the Mad Mages are believed to be dead. As the worst criminals to ever live, some were brought to death by the forces of justice, but a couple have disappeared entirely, and may be alive or dead.

Now, the continent Urio, where Humans were first born, is the continent most made empty by the Genocide spell. However, there are many Beastkin there, and they are beginning to create new settlements where Human cities once stood. These people, now called Returners, are re-settling these places, and are building up civilisation again where the Fifth Calamity had left none. The Urio Reclamation Company now offers people from all species, be they beastkin or smoothskin, an opportunity to become Returners. If they create new homes, farms, and businesses, they may gather great wealth as people come back to Urio. However, monsters have also grown in power where Humans had once kept them in check, making the continent of Urio a dangerous place, and it is also believed that the Mages who escaped justice fled to the continent, to hide themselves in places where none would go to find them. Of course, there are other people besides Returners seeking their fortunes on the continent as well, people who see the absence of law and justice there as an opportunity.
