wierd networking problem

I'm not sure whether this is software or hardware, so please excuse the cross post.
I have 2 pcs at home in a peer to peer network, connected by a crosswired cable. When I try to access network drives from one pc to the other the pc resets itself without warning. I can access the list of shared drives without this happening but as soon as i open a drive or folder, click... beep... hardware reset, as if someone had pressed the reset button.

This only happens in one direction - ie I can access files on my computer from the one that resets when I try to connect to it without problems, it's only when I try to access the other computer from mine that it resets itself
