FAT corruption

It seems I have a corrupt FAT, and I'd like to fix it
Some, not all, directories on my harddrive now have weird names, and file sizes are mis-reported (140Gb of files in one directory, whrn the actualy size of the whole drive is 80Gb!)
To find this out, I booted off a spare HDD
I really don't want to lose any data, but it may elaready be too late
Is there any utility that anyone knows of that'll repair my FAT?
