I'm moving!
9th. May, 2009 | 12:52 am
Moving journals, that is...not houses. I've been living in the same house for my entire life, so I don't really see that changing in the immediate future (but one day, yes!). You can find me at:
Frankly this journal is just sprawling. I've been avoiding it for that reason, and I think it's time for a new start, somewhere with a little less baggage. It will remain here as a testament to everything I've been through with it, but essentially there won't be any more new posts after this.
If you'd like to follow my more personal entries on the new journal, please comment so that I can add you back! :)
If you'd like to just follow my art, add me without leaving a comment.

50 confirmed dead in Victorian bushfire disaster. Further casualtie expected.
8th. Feb, 2009 | 05:03 pm
| In what is considered to be Victoria's worst bushfires (and natural disaster) since the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983 (in which 47 people in Victoria died), 50 people are confirmed dead. It could be days until the final deathtoll is realised, including local residents, firefighters, and those who suffered burns from the fires. At least 80 people are in hospitals with burns, with 3 not expected to last the night. |

Mostly feet things.
8th. Feb, 2009 | 12:39 pm
| I spent last Thursday and Saturday standing on my feet (what else?) for 8 hours straight. While this may not seem like a particularly long time in general, it can be when you're used to doing so while moving around, or if you spend a lot of the rest of your time in a computer chair processing photographs. I was busy packing "O Week" (Orientation Week, for universities) goodie bags to help out one of my sister's friends, Ana. ( My poor feet.Collapse ) Then yesterday, I found myself contemplating buying an AU$600.00 pair of boots. Somebody slap some sense into me, please? I also found myself desiring these, far cheaper, boots...but it turns out that they're impossible to find in my size in Australia. Curse our isolation! I really should move to somewhere that is always cold, so I'd have every reason to wear glorious pairs of boots, rather than wedges that just cause me pain. Speaking of cold climes, the lovely Rosie (as to how I know her: we were in the same year group at our high school) is currently in Toronto, Canada, enjoying the weather there. She's a fashion aficionado, and went so far as to make a Chanel 2.55 bag out of snow! You must go look. Spiffy, neh? |

Ooh!

I am now absolutely intrigued by the work of Tamara de Lempicka. The shadows, form and colours are just incredible. Below on the left is the stunning artwork that graces the card Red, black and white is one of my favourite colour schemes, so I adore this card. Thank you! *hugs*
(The neighbours did, indeed, have the card in stack of our mail! *sigh*) |

Corey Arnold
18th. Jan, 2009 | 09:23 am
| A photographer and Alaskan crab fisherman, Corey Arnold is working on a life-long project titled "Fish-work", which is a portrait of the modern commercial fisherman. Six years of his life have been spent photographing the crab fisherman in the Bering Sea, and grants will see him working to photograph fisherman from Norway to Alaska to Russia. The rest of the year is packed with travel, gallery exhibitions, magazine and ad photography assignments with a bit of backyard gardening, cat maintenance, and skateboarding in Portland, Oregon. Arnold says: "It all started with my personality as a kid: I was crazy about exploring, travelling, and hanging out with animals. Well, killing and dissecting animals like birds, rabbits, squirrels, lizards, and especially sea creatures. I wanted to know how everything in the world looked on the inside and out, I was a curious and brutal little feller. Meanwhile my dad was a sport fishing addict. We would go fishing in the waters off of California nearly every weekend and I’d be surfing during the days in between. So in a way, I grew up on the sea." Read an interview with Arnold, or check out his homepage for more images. |

I'm a bad, bad, person. I couldn't leave the internet so soon! Money doesn't matter, right? *clings for a while longer* While I'm at it, if you're not one for songs with lyrics:

Enjoy it. I, for one, know I shall be doomed to listening to traditional Swiss music at our annual barbecue gathering... Alp horns, here I come!
