Facebook Movie Meme

So, there's this Facebook movie meme which went around AGES ago. It grabs a list of a whole heap of films and tells you that you're a loser if you've watched more than 85 of them. Most people I know have, but I think this says more about their age than anything. There are only a small amount of movies on the list that really show if someone has gone nuts and watched the whole series or all the movies by a certain person. The rest is just covering so many different genres that if you really have seen them all, you're either interested in way more than the norm or plain bored.

Anyway, me being me, I didn't want to mark x next to the films I've seen. I also wanted to post memeyness in LJ because that's what I do (It'll make its way to Facebook via rss magic).

I went and made a 'Facebook Movie Meme' list in Flixter which easily show the movies I've seen (and any I see after today). Also, it means my Flixter friends can play with it too. I'd show you the widget but LJ doesn't like them (and besides, it fills in "average" ratings if I haven't rated/watched it yet. That could accidentally lie to you about my taste).

So, uh, enjoy. It's long. :)

Aargh. I hate it when international media makes everyone in Australia look like a bunch of wankers. Okay, so they may be right and all.

How ridiculous! The Daily Telegraph did a very limited poll - and by the looks of it they did it in the mall by asking the dumbest people they could find. And I really wonder about the survey anyway. If someone asks "What is the *insert anything* protocol?" you could be pretty sure it didn't have anything to do with cars or food, yeah? But since they were asking "What is Kyoto?" I really hope a few people mentioned it was a place in Japan.

But then again, maybe it's got a valid point. If ANYONE answered incorrectly they must have been living under a rock.

Either way, we have dumb statistics showing Australians to be dumb and now the dumb UK sensationalist papers have picked up on it. Dumb newspapers.

On another note, one lovely friend of mine pointed out something very interesting: Two months ago we would never have thought Australia would send a female, Asian, lesbian minister to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. My how things have changed :)

Modern art is just a little too abstract.

I just got all excited to hear that finally someone had proven that most modern art is just a little too abstract to show true vision and talent. Prove it for yourself by submitting your kid's artwork to an art exhibition. Okay, so the trick is to them an expensive canvas and some fantastic paint and let them at it. However, I'm actually really impressed with the photography used in the article.

Anyway, I mentioned it to Bruce and he thought it was this movie. Meh, so it's been done before. Maybe the point will get through this time.

It reminds me of the Martin Pearson track about the fact that there are 6 paintings in the National Art Gallery that are simply black paint on black canvas. And I recall seeing a broken bike wheel hanging from the ceiling there too. Now, next time I'm short of cash I really should remember to see if I can sell my old bike parts as art.

Not quite sure what possessed me to say I would go to the show today, but I've said it now so I hope it's fun!

Also, lots of choir concerts coming up - all detailed here if you want to come. Most of them are free.

Hope everyone's enjoying the warm weather and having a ball. I'm thinking it might nearly be time to have a BBQ.. when things get a little less crazy! It'll be easier to fit everyone now that we've knocked the fence down between Damien's house and ours.

IV Not-Post

I've got heaps to say about IV.. so much so that I bet I'll never get around to it.

So, rather than leave you all wondering what IV was like.. I'll post a link to a post by one of the fantasmic freshers, Katherine. It pretty much sums up why we all keep going back to IV.

By the way, post-BIV-chorister-internet land seems to be on Facebook. I think all the freshers and choristers under 30 from IV are there, plus some of the more technically minded old farts are too. SIV is going to get all those freshers back, ready to party, in a big way. In short, facebook is doing great things for IV. Yay!

I'm collecting some of the pics going around in my own BIV Flickr collection, since we didn't have a camera there.

I promise to get out my ORGASM (that be the FIBS) and give everyone a day by day rundown of IV.. Soon. And I'll leave you with a picture of us..

Bruce and I are back home from BIV and full of *splat*. At some point soon we may get a grip on what normal life is like again and come out to play with people again... Maybe even update LJ with some sort of run down on the excitement that was BIV. You never know. :P

I've sort of vaguely checked my friends list but I'm sure I've missed stuff. If anything really exciting happened in the last two weeks then can you mention it again?? Hope everyone's well!

I've been reading Nick Hornby's "How to be good" and loving every minute of it (oh my poor deprived homework). I sang, they sang, we sang, we drank, we laughed at the poor editing on the karaoke list, we got silly, we danced to Agadoo (in Public!), we were very silly, we applauded some of the worst singing I've ever heard, our throats began to die and then we went home in the rain with the crappiest songs stuck in our heads. Fun!

Scary cars!

I forgot to mention that Bruce and I had a tyre blow out on Friday morning. We were doing 110km/hr with cars close behind us so we were REALLY lucky it didn't flip us over or cause an accident or anything.

So, when I went out to Williamstown last night I had no spare tyre. I also lent Bruce my phone and both maps I had of Adelaide went out of limits there. Needless to say, it was a little scary to find that I'd accidentally picked the route with kangaroos and the 4WD dirt road. I really didn't want to find myself out there in the dark after getting a flat tyre or hitting a kangaroo. It was a 15km walk to the nearest house in places.

But I survived..

The Hen's night itself was fun, but if you want to know what happened you'll have to get hold of the photos and ask Heather to explain. :P

My favourite bit was being led around the backyard blindfolded with a woman giving me directions according to the womad pass on my arm "Turn a little Womad.. now take a step.. then Not-Womad Not-Womad!" (This was because she was a little pissed and Left/Right was too confusing for her). This all started after her fantastic line of "Turn 90 degrees.. WHAT THE FUCK'S THAT?"

Back to Womad today.. lots of catching up to do!

What a huge week!

Okay, I have to update properly now. It's early on the Saturday of Womad.. I have a house full of people asleep who I don't want to wake up. Perfect time to get writing about the adventure that was. Photos are on Flickr in the Sydney Road Trip Set.

I guess the Sydney trip really started on Tuesday 27th. That was the night we left Adelaide for Riverton. The day was a mad rush in itself.. trying to make sure we were ready to leave and packed and had set up all we needed for the next week or so. STRESS! I managed to also sneak in a visit to my new employer and getting a a bit of a talk through of my new part time job. We got up to Riverton REALLY late.

Wednesday was entirely spent packing up the (massive) ute and trailer with all of Bronwyn's (Bruce's sister) gear. I was beginning to hate her belongings. :) We'd also heard there was likely rain ahead and we spent a couple of hours making sure it was thoroughly waterproof. We didn't see a drop of rain while the gear was in the car. Grr!

Late Wednesday night Jennie (Bruce's mum) tells me all about the Grillies and how they're going across Australia with us for the trip and that we are to take lots of photos. I'm standing there tired as anything going "Uh-huh. They all like climbing. They're gorillas. That makes sense. Norman likes trucks. We take photos. Okay" and that was about all I took in. I don't think she can tell when I'm about to fall over tired yet :)

Thursday we finally jumped into the car and started the road trip proper. We missed our firt turn and drove half an hour out of our way. Great start! We stopped in Berri for two hours for lunch with Alex and Leanne (who I'd never met, but are both lovely). Then we had a short visit to the two slobbering dogs who were over the moon about having visitors. So cute!

Oh yeah, that's right. We're on a road trip with a destination. Keep driving. On to Deniliquin where my Nana lives. We got in so late that I wasn't sure she'd still be up. Somehow she fed us dinner and wine and got Bruce fixing her computer within minutes. Smart woman.

Nana demanded that we take a huge pile of sandwiches for the next part of the trip (and we were very happy to eat them!) so we barely stopped driving all Friday. Bruce was about to curl up with a book when he suddenly thought to read to me as I drove. He read a few brilliant short stories and then pulled out Robert Westall - The Cats of Seroster. For the rest of the trip whenever I was driving he would read to me. This resulted in some long driving stretches for me cause I was begging for more book. :)

When we got to Cowra and saw all the signs for the Japanese Gardens we figured it was about bloody time for a decent rest from driving. We took the Grillies out for a tour with us so there are way too many photos from the gardens. The gardens were built as a memorial/sign of peace for the Japanese POW's that were held there. It's a massive garden and well worth seeing. Puts Adelaide's garden to shame. Every time you sat in a gazebo you had natural air conditioning to cool you. It was gorgeous. Bruce later berated himself for not pulling the ring out there. :)

We got into Sydney about 8pm and got a quick dinner at Rhodes with Bronwyn before unpacking the trailer. By midnight it was emptied and we were sick of stairs & boxes, grumpy and dead to the world.

I finally went to Ikea on Saturday. I love the trolleys you can jump onto. Bronwyn spent way too much money on furniture and then we lugged it back to the car (Saga 1), lugged it up the stairs to her flat (Saga 2) and then built the buggers (Saga 3). I went from Ikea virgin to Ikea pro in a couple of hours. I swear I can build anything they throw at me now. But if you want my help you'll have to pay me more than the furniture is worth. I've had enough. :P Bronwyn is officially never moving again. We've decided. *puts foot down*

By about dinner time we crawled painfully to the local Indian takeaway and back. Ben (Bronwyn's boyfriend) dropped in to help us set things up.. but we all just draped ourselves over the table and complained about our ikea injuries and how smelly we were. Blergh.

Short interlude.. people are getting up. Will dispense coffee.

Right, back to it..

So, we get a router and stuff and head back to set it up. It has no modem in it. Bruce and Bronwyn went back to exchange it for one that was remotely useful. Ben and I build more furniture. Bronwyn runs off to a Hockey match she had to umpire. Bruce geeks. Ben and I build furniture. Ben and I withhold beer from Bruce until he does some REAL work. Bruce builds a drawer. Ben and I think that was a somewhat wimpy effort.. but we like him so he gets beer.

Big splat. Ange passes out on the bed we just built.

Bronwyn had arranged for us to see Allan and Monty for dinner because they were instrumental in her having a place to stay over the past few weeks. Bruce tells them he's going to take me for a walk to the park to wake me up before dinner. I get dragged groggily out of bed and walked to the park.

We sit at the park and he asks about what I'm wearing to Heather's wedding (another of Bruce's sisters) at the end of the month. He pretends he is going to try to match his outfit to mine. I ponder a few dresses and then pretty much decide on the blue one I wore to my birthday party. Bruce is nodding and smiling.. and then pulls out a ring, grins and says "Do you think it would go with this?". Yes, yes, yes.. and yes! And actually it would go with the dress, too.

SNEAKY BUGGER! This is an heirloom ring which he had his mother get out of storage especially. It's his great grandfather's tie pin which was turned into a ring for another great relative many, many years ago. And now it's an engagement ring! Squee!

Then we were rushed out to dinner (Pizza and gelati) and started spreading the gossip and drinking too much champagne. Some messages were sent out from Bruce's phone (because mine was out of phone credit). After some very funny messages back and a phone call beginning with a scream we turned the phone off and listened to the thunderstorm until we slept.

Will get back to this in a while.. Pausing for breakfast with Womad guests.

Monday we ran around all morning at Bronwyn's house making it perfect so she didn't come home to a half finished house. Then we left Sydney via the Tennis Museum where she works. Got a free tour of the closed museum and then bolted for Canberra. We ate revolting truck stop food for lunch and wished we hadn't for the rest of the day. We finally got in to Canberra (much later than anticipated) and made Jason late for work while we caught up with him for a beer. Then we descended upon Mat and Gemma who had cooked up an awesome Mexican feast for us. Yum!

All too quickly I was asleep and it was morning and Mat and Gemma were off to work. Bruce and I went up Telstra tower and stopped at the George Harcourt for lunch. Then drive, drive, drive to Deniliquin. This time we didn't get in too late to see the older rellies. Bruce got to meet my great aunties and uncles.. who were all very happy to see us engaged all of a sudden. :)

Then dinner at Aunty Nita's house. Very funny night :) And somehow Bruce ended up doing tech support again.. I love how people don't expect me to know anything about computers. I never get asked to fix them. Bruce just has GEEK written on his forehead. I'll have to get him a "No I will not fix your computer" T-Shirt :P

In the morning I took Bruce to see the Deni Rocket (Every kid knows the rocket!) and the Deni beach. The Deni to Adelaide leg was completely uneventful. I grovelled to drive all the time and got read to. We still didn't finish the book. :(

We've been madly running about trying to catch up on our lives since we got back. Suddenly it's Womad and we're entirely unprepared. Last night we ducked in to Lorelei's exhibition opening before racing back to Womad. Her exhibition is great! And there were stacks of ancient FUCS choristers there. Fun!

Today I'm missing Womad cause of a conducting course run by Tim Sexton and Heather's hen's night tonight.

By the way, it looks like there might be an engagement party on one of the Saturdays in late April. Will give more details when we know them. :)

Bruce and I got engaged!!

There's this meme going around. It's sort of interesting and all. But I'm not going to do it. This is because I've already entered all that info into 43 Places and I can't be bothered doing it again. If LJ would let me put javascript in a post then I could show you a really pretty map of where I've been and where I want to go. Where I plan to go is far more interesting than where I've been, anyway.

So, last night Bruce and I suddenly decided to race down to the beach to see if we could see the comet. No comet anywhere. Bloody awesome sunset though! Tres romantic.

And.. we're sitting on the beach thinking life is great when Bruce goes "Hey, did you turn the stove off?" And I'm like "Hey, didn't you do that? I saw you at the stove!" "No" "No?" "FUCK!"

We get back to find that we have burned to a crisp some chops we were boiling down.. and the house now reeks of burned bones. Oh how gross. That would have to be one of the most revolting scents in the world.

YUK!!!!

But, at least we didn't quite burn the house down. :)

PS The curry in the crock pot was perfect. Is this a regular thing for me that I burn stuff when making curry?

I dropped off the internet for a few days there. It's amazing how much reading you can get done without internet distractions. I might just have to do it again. Then again.. the spam build up wasn't great to come back to.

The Hottest 100 party was excellent. We filled Bruce's place up with people and partied the afternoon away with about as much style as Australians around a BBQ with beer in their hands can muster. Unfortunately, I killed someone's esky due to it not actually being strong enough to sit on. Sorry!

While we were en-route to buy Australian Flags I noticed that "Spag in a box" has shut down. I was very taken aback. I mean with a name like that who WOULDN'T be lining up to eat there? *shudders*

I had much more to say but I've forgotten it all.

Bruce won the sweep by guessing the second to top song. No-one would have guessed number one. I mean WTF? Here's the list if you need it.

Damien and I watched much Six Feet Under while we waited for Bruce to wake up. *Brain hurts*

In other news, Bruce and I celebrated a year of us last night. We went to see Pan's Labyrinth and then had a romantic night in watching Finding Neverland. *Loves*
