I still do layouts for the lovely site, and I recalled a few weeks ago the idea of passing around one of the banners and letting members doodle on it was brought to the table. I was wondering if you lovely artists out there would be interested in doodling up the August banner.

The banner is pretty simple, but the colors are a little too off to set it up in Goggles and let people go at it (though I suppose if you just used white that'd be fine). I dont know if there's a way to go at it in some pchat or w/e, but there's always the option of passing the file itself around for people to doodle on.

Anyone interested? You can make it as wacky or random as you like AS LONG AS it stays clean content rating-wise. I know how you all love to be inappropriate but this is Splenda.

I keep watching the leaked red vs blue season 9 trailer and screaming. I WANT THEM TO RELEASE IT ON THE SITE SO BAAAAAAAAAAAD.

Anyway, someone commented that they noted at PAX there will also be a RvB storyline alongside the Freelancer one, so I'm wondering if the season is the main timeline with freelancer flashbacks. I am content with that, especially since I want to see Donut confront Wash. hue

THERE ARE ONLY TWO POKEMON ON MY TEAM I AM ATTACHED TO :(

There are three I like but only two do I consider bros. Which depresses me.

But w/e my pantslizard and lil candle bro can take on anyone. We are so boss.

Zoroark can come too I guess.

but idk. Seriously i am just...not feeling the pokemon this gen. I really do think I'm having a hard time coming to enjoy any of them because I don't have one or two of my typical bros to help balance out a nice team. If I had even just one or two familiar pokes it'd be easier to get used to these slow-to-evolve and pathetic-speed-stats pokemon, but when your whole team is composed of pokemon you don't really like, it's a little disheartening.

I do have to thank Shoe, though. Litwick has become a new true bro in my pokemon lineup. He's evolved into a whatever it's called and we are boss together.

At this point though my lil ghost/fire type is the only pokemon in my team I'm really attached to. Pantslizard is pretty boss but I'm mostly attached to him because I crave a fighting type.

I THINK I AM MOSTLY JUST DEPRESSED BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE LUXRAY OR A PSYCHIC.

WHY SO SLOW ISSHU PSYCHICS?

goddamn everything this gen has hideous speed stats. I understand that they were trying to raise the difficulty level but it's not harder or more difficult, it's just annoying. It doesn't make me feel challenged, it just makes me lose interest quickly. Another thing they've apparently tried to do is take these pokemon with AWESOME STATS and giving them the shittiest move pools in the world. And I don't mean just leveling up - I mean the TMs they can learn too. I mean really. You have a steel type with 100 Attack and a small sp. attack and the only stab moves it learns are special attack. In fact, it only learns three physical moves. There are tons of physical steel moves.

Like I said, not more difficult, just annoying enough that I won't use it. Oh well. Waiting for gen 6 already.

Also it's really weird getting up to my sixth or seventh badge (idek which one I'm on) and only having a three pokemon team. And being able to destroy anything that comes our way using only three.

How is this gen harder again.

Anyway. The graphics didn't bother me as much as I thought they would. It's not that bad on an XL screen. It's mostly the game mechanics (especially in battle and pokemon growth-wise) and the pokemon in general that are really bothering me.

I dunno. I guess I was expecting what we've had the past four gens - the same general game, just with nicer graphics, a few really swanky add ons, and some new pokemon mixed in with the old favorites. Gen V just isn't that for me at all. It feels like it's an entirely different genre of pokemon games, if that makes sense. So I don't feel like I'm playing the same ol' classic pokemon gameboy game, which is what I was really hoping for, seeing as that is what the past four generations have been... So I'm a little disappointed that isn't what I got. I'm probs gonna sell the game once I finish, since I don't really see myself replaying it. I just haven't enjoyed it that much.

30 Day Vidya Meme

Since I know I am too lazy to finish the whole thing/too scatterbrained to remember (Only got to day 3...), I'm just going to jump to #30, drag my fangirling over from plurk, and tell you all about #30: My favorite game.

This series - not just game - is my favorite series of all time. Yep, it even trumps all my childhood games, my first FPS experiences, and any and every RPG I've played that I've loved. A lot of people may balk at that, call me a 'casual', or whatever, but this series means a lot more to me than just a great string of games to play.

FPS have always been "my thing" when it comes to video game genres; I've played practically every FPS I could get my hands on, whether they were small demos that never came to fruition to huge franchises that now exist as legends in the video game community. And, to be honest, I've played other FPS whose game mechanics I enjoy more than Halo's in certain areas, but Halo is still my favorite game.

You see, I have never played another series where, at the end of every single game, I have sat back and consistently went "Wow. Now that was a great game."

It's not just how a game plays that decides my opinion on it, but rather the feeling it leaves me with at the end of the day. With the creation of Halo has come such a huge and vast primary and secondary canon that rivals most RPG worlds, and the intricacies of this world are not lost at all in any one of the games, consistently creating a genuine-feeling environment to play in. The storyline at it's base is a simple one, but pulled off brilliantly, with not just memorable and likable characters, but ones that can live on in the video game community as the notable characters of our time. Each one has a distinct personality, a distinct life and depth to them, even the secondary characters. You get a feel for every character you meet, leaving them feeling like you know part of them, you can relate to them, that they're important. This is something extremely rare in games in general, not to mention even rarer in FPS.

Those aspects combined leave me awed when I finish the campaign part of a game; to see how all of those plot elements combine flawlessly to create such an engaging story is really a rare thing to see in many FPS games these days, and in my opinion, puts Halo in a league of its own.

Aside from the story element of the games, I do enjoy the technical parts of the game. I've never had a complaint about the interface or style of play; I'm usually picky about how my FPS games run, but Halo is one I've never really had complaints about. It's adaptable and easy to customize; Bungie is a developer that really puts its fans first, and that is something that shows in their game designs.

Aside from the game mechanics, the aesthetic parts of each game are just stunning. While Halo: CE looks so primitive now compared to other games, I remember being awed at the graphics when it came out so long ago. Each new installment, Bungie has up'd their standards, and each game has come equipped with beautiful and breathtaking landscapes, and engaging and clear gameplay. The colors are creative and well placed, the lighting is awesome, and the game is detailed without being overly distracting - something I appreciate in an FPS.

The music is something else I love, but I won't go into in depth, because I think most of you know how huge of a fangirl I am of these soundtracks and how long I could talk about them. I will say the one thing I am blown away by is the consistency of them, and the underlying melody that has evolved but is still present in every single game soundtrack; that tell-tale chorus of voices that Martin O'Donnell somehow finds a way to include into so many songs, and somehow keep it from being too repetitive. Beautiful, beautiful composing. And so well placed in the game, too.

Something else I have really loved about this series is watching it grow and change over time, but especially in regards to how Bungie has handled player demand. When people were upset about certain aspects of changed gameplay in Halo2, Bungie listened, and not only did they change things back in Halo 3, but delivered even further on suggestions that had been floating around since the game's birth. Bungie really takes their fans into account, and Halo has become such an amazing series because of it.

One of the things that really puts this game in a special place in my heart is the sentimental experiences I have had with it. When I was younger, playing it on LIVE was how I grew closer with my brothers and with my friends; I have never laughed harder playing a game with people than I have with Halo. It really has been a great bonding experience, because like the gaming community often says (like this is a bad thing for this game), Halo is more of a "casual" game - it's easy to pick up, easy to learn, but most importantly, extremely fun to play with others of any skill level. It's a game for anyone, and I appreciate that. Fuck exclusive and "hardcore" games; give me something I can play with my friends and bond over, and I'll pick that over a classic any day.

Also, I will say this in only one line, which should be self-explanatory, but another reason why I love this game is Red vs. Blue wouldn't exist without it. Mhm.

Creatively, Halo has been such a huge inspiration for many things I have done. Using Halo's secondary canon, I have created and imagined some of my most inspiring ideas for other stories and characters, and seeing how in-depth and amazingly intricate Halo's world is has set a standard for me when it comes to my own world building. I really can't ramble enough about how amazing I find the secondary canon to be, but I'll stop because this entry is already tl;dr.

Anyways, that is why the Halo series in general are my favorite games. I will stand up for and stand by these games any day. I understand that FPS games (and Halo) are not everyone's cup of tea; I also know that in the vidya community, saying you're a Halo fag usually gets a big ol' CASUAL stamped across your forehead. I don't really care what you think about this game series, as long as you can respect that these games are special to me, are a lot more than just something to play, and definitely, by far, my favorite games of all time.

IGNITION | The Rookie

The kid was too quiet.

Luck had received a brief from a training sergeant two days before they picked up the kid. It didn't mention anything about the abnormal silence that followed her around, only noting that the other recruits had codenamed her 'Ghost'. If Luck hadn't seen the rookie bleed with his own eyes, he might've taken it literally. Any commander appreciated a soldier that knew how to shut up and listen, but the rookie was one that never began talking in the first place. It took Luck a week to realize it wasn't a problem with authority the kid had, and that she actually was responding to his prompts with 'yes sir' and 'no sir'; she was just so fucking quiet when she spoke. Luck didn't trust quiet people, and if it was anyone but the rookie, he would've kicked 'em off his squad in less than a heartbeat.

But the kid was good - really good. And at this point, that was what mattered. Their numbers were crunched, and the rookie gave them the one extra man they needed to function as a worthwhile unit. So Luck tolerated it (as much as Luck could) and spent the time he usually set aside to get to know his soldiers watching the kid ghost around.

Ghost was a machine, plain and simple. Every day was treated like a routine, even the ones that deviated from the norm. It was like someone had programmed the kid to survive with as minimum passion as possible; while she had surprised Luck by showing an unnatural amount of loyalty for his squad in the field, the importance of her own life seemed to be next to nothing. She did what needed to be done to finish the job, but did it her own way. Luck had learned the only thing she ever took from his pre-mission briefs was his individual objective; any orders on how to go about reaching that objective were disregarded. The kid did whatever she felt like, and what pissed off Luck the most was her explanation for doing so was never more than two words. Once Ghost had removed her helmet in the midst of a mission, completely cutting her off from the rest of the squad. When Luck finally found the idiot a day later, covered in familiar and foreign blood and missing a good chunk of her right arm, all the rookie had given him was "Couldn't see." Despite a sudden, overpowering urge to rip the kid's other arm off and beat her head in with it, all Luck had done was click on his radio and let Warner know they were in need of a field medic. Because even if he yelled, Ghost wouldn't have listened.

But Luck couldn't complain, because the kid was good. Really good.

And at this point, that was what mattered.
