...as if millions of children's voices suddenly started muttering to themselves, "Can't sleep, Freddy will eat me."

So, we paid a visit to the local Wally-World today to get charcoal for tonight's barbecue, and decided to take a walk around the store for shits and giggles. Just as we were passing by the toy section, I happened to spot an out-of-place box that turned out to be a set of Five Nights at Freddy's vinyl figures.

For funsies, I decided to go scan the box and see how much they cost (didn't get them), and found where they were supposed to be. Along with FNaF Mymojis and plushies based off the little toys you can get in-game. (Did get one of Foxy, incidentally - its name is now Fury.)

Yeah.

Don't get me wrong, I've got no problem with merchandise from this game - definitely seems like it can be merch-central, even if it started out as an indie game.

Just hope parents who buy this stuff know (or find out) that even though the toys can be meant for kids, the games... not so much.

I have Portal 2.

The game was part of a weekly sale through XBOX Live for $9.89 (compared to the $19.95 Amazon has it listed for), and I wanted a break from the grimdark mind fuck that is Dead Space 2, having gotten most of the non-DLC achievements. (The ones that don't involve beating the game on Zealot and Hardcore difficulty - gosh, they sound like a breeze! Only three saves on Hardcore? Bring it on!)

To be honest, the puzzle solving made for an interesting change of pace after a couple slogs through the Sprawl, even after the implications that God only knows what has happened since the last time Chell was woken up. (And considering that Portal and Half Life apparently take place in the same universe, it might be easy to guess what went down. Nice going, Gordon...)

That said, it kind of adds a sour note to the ending. Life in Aperture was (more or less) a certainty. The outside world, less so - especially if the Combine is still in charge. On the other hand, the best I can come up with right now is the G-Man standing outside the shack, with Chell's (now modified) Portal Gun in hand and in need of her help...)

#63 - Agony

Why did he ever agree to this?

When he'd proposed their little truce, Farley had been resigned to all kinds of godly shit turning up - blood, monsters, curses, literally epic drama, the works. He'd never considered himself the extreme-danger-magnet-I'm-in-trouble-must-be-Tuesday type, but for Loki, he'd deal. So far, though, the God of Mischief had been pretty good about keeping it off his loafers, at least in the flesh.

The nightmares, on the other hand - now that was a whole new can of shit. There weren't many nights where he didn't have to wake Loki before he started screaming or staggered to the bathroom or quaked from hellish Jotunheim storms, but there wasn't any way around it. Even if he trusted himself not to screw this up, he wasn't that stupid, and he wasn't getting Lamont involved, either - the part that remembered him as his almost-killer wasn't about to give him the chance.

With the Latin and petrichor-smelling incense and mind-clouding off the table, there was nothing to do but coax Loki back to bed, and rub warmth back into his flesh. Him, himself, and he - as usual.

But this time, he had to admit that he liked it that way.

Hell, it was turning out to be quite the sweet deal. He could have done worse than Loki for a roommate, and aside from the nightmares and three conversational landmines of family, politics, and villainy, he wasn‘t that bad. Worst part, really, was having to tell himself it was as much a means to an end as the Destructor or blowing up Jotunheim.

For a god, though, he had some damned earthly needs, and that had been the tricky part. Every time Loki glanced over his shoulder into the fridge or he woke up to black curls and hands in fun places or found him nosing through his books - he’d finally gotten to American Gods, and had liked it so far, though Farley had a pretty good idea why - the words got harder to remember.

Loki complicates things. Loki complicates things. Loki complicates things.

The joke was that it was true. Loki as the Big Bad - and all the saga-inspiring kookiness it implied - he could handle. Maybe. Loki as Loki - the food-stealing, sleep-through-an-earthquake-and-come-out-smiling, angel of a witch - that was another story.

He'd cope. After the fanatic angels and God-hates-fangs racists and demon mayors of Chicago, he'd welcomed the chance to take back any sense of control he could, and though it wasn’t Shiwan's head (or at least his obituary), he thought he'd done all right.

But once in a while, the 'verses got in a laugh or two.

It started during one of Loki's moments of "'satiable curiosity" - innocent little questions that segued their chats into something that was anything but.

This was a mistake, no bones about it, and everyone would give him twenty-one barrels of What the hell were you thinking? if and when they found out. He should have told Loki to mind his damn business, but he'd been too tired for manners, and snapping would have just given him more ammo.

So he talked while Loki sat (or lay there) and listened, only speaking if Farley couldn't say it himself, and - most importantly - never judging. At first he'd thought he was filing things away for future blackmail, until he started in on Daniel's little story and saw blue ice turn to steel.

To his surprise, it helped a lot more than he'd thought, and in many ways, more than talking to Lamont ever did. As much as Farley liked him, he suspected there were things waiting that his fellow coven black sheep simply would not get, and though he knew he shouldn't have been telling Loki any of it, he really couldn't not.

The last time, it had been about Farley's parents, and Loki had gotten him to admit that he was starting to doubt.

All this time, he'd figured that no one told them how they died to keep him from slashing his wrists or worse - with the pain still fresh, to learn what happened simply would have been a salted knife in open and bleeding wounds.

Pre-Rift Farley hadn't asked, didn’t want to know, and no one would have blamed him for it.

Post-Rift Farley didn' want to know, but after angels, changelings, a warped version of the Tenth Plague, and every-damn-thing else, he saw things like the blindfold had been swapped for eldritch-tinted glasses.

"It's stupid, I know," he’d said. "Just 'cause someone died doesn't mean they were killed, and even if they were, you don't need magic to make it happen. And they're-" He sighed, forcing his thoughts into a line. "They're dead, it's over, and I shouldn't keep making mountains out of it, but..."

"But you are." Loki twirled his apple core between tapering fingers. "And you're not sure if you're wrong, either." He looked over at him, eyes still as he thought. "Perhaps you should make sure..."

Farley had said nothing. He'd been thinking the same thing for a while, but guilt over digging up old bones and constant second-guessing had kept him from acting on it. But after Loki had said it so matter-of-factly, the old doubts and guilt suddenly made no sense.

"So..." Loki scowled, though he looked almost sympathetic in how he didn't take his eyes off Daniel. "Someone lied to you, too."

The words didn't come.

This time, it was about his mercifully short career as a henchman. So it was only taboo when he brought it up...

"What happened?"

Loki's voice - soft and firm as a priest's - slid over his ears, snapping him out of it.

"Hm?"

"You didn't have everything, but you still had a life, a job, a home. So - what happened?"

Farley toyed with his bottle, long since empty.

"What can I say? I fell, same as you."

He wouldn't have put it that way, usually, but they'd already had a few rounds, dulling Loki’s bitterness into regret, and he only shrugged in not-quite-acknowledgement.

"Well, I'd hardly call it the same..."

"Yeah, not the details, but-" He gestured for emphasis. "Strip it down to the bones, and there you go. Had a goal, got desperate, got stupid, got whatever, over - and I mean overreached, and-" He mimicked a bomb dropping, and to his surprise, Loki nodded, raising his own bottle in tired salute with a chuckle.

"That's usually how the story goes, isn't it?" he said, pensive gaze somewhere past his couch.

Farley nodded. The names and the deeds and the drives and the goals were different, but the path felt too familiar beneath his shoes.

These moments usually ended like this, with his new friend offering his suspiciously truth-laden brand of comfort, or the two of them reflecting on what they’d lost (even if Loki refused to admit to it.)

This time, his thoughts were on Loki.

Yeah, he'd fucked up - no reason to pretend otherwise. But even though he hadn't even spoken to Reinhardt (never mind seeing him) and he still felt like Margo would take a swing at him if no one was looking, he still had New York, insane as it would ever be.

Loki didn't even have that - he'd rejected Asgard, his adopted family and people, and probably would have done the same with Farley if he hadn't come up with their little deal. Worse still, he was trapped in that downward spiral that had taken a near-miss with the fucking Shadow to snap him out of - if he even knew at all...

He set the bottle on the table without looking, and glanced over, half-tempted to stand, to pull him into a hug, something-

Of course Loki had to have the chair that would put him in full view of the couch. The instant he'd glanced over, he was doomed, staring at dark green silk wrapped around slender legs. Then he moved up and inward, as if he didn’t quite believe what he’d seen (just like the last several times), tracing up the inseam of his thighs.

The way he sat, legs spread and draped casually over the easy chair, pulled at the fabric over his crotch, baring more than it ever should have for him to see.

He didn't gulp. But damned if it wasn' hard not to. Instead he mumbled something about food - though he didn't know if he got the right syllables out - and shuffled off to the kitchen.

Out of sight - he hoped - he leaned against the counter, desperately trying not to think.

He couldn't have stopped Loki, even if he wanted to. Might as well have tried to make fish dance or rain fall up - without magic. But between that, his casual way of draping himself over Farley one way or another, and contented smiles as he curled up against him, well, any pretense or denial was just a waste of damn time.

Yet Loki was Loki, even if he claimed that most of the stories were bullshit, and this was just the kind of thing he’d do, even if Farley hoped otherwise.

Stupid Loki. Stupid rum.

...Stupid damn kiss...

Okay, now he was blushing.

He'd been happily drunk when it happened, but the memories kept replaying at the most awkward moments possible - how Loki had practically melted into him after that moment of intense shock, vaguely thinking the rum added to the taste of his mouth and tongue, and worst of all, the quiet simmer in his eyes when he pulled away. He hadn't known that anyone with blue eyes could smolder - until now.

"You know you'l hate yourself for this tomorrow," he'd teased, arms draped over Farley’s shoulders as he pulled him close.

"Yeah," he replied, pressing his forehead against Loki's as he backed him towards the couch. "But while it's still tonight..."

Dammit dammit dammit dammit-

Glass clinked and clattered against plastic, making Farley jump. Loki stood by the recycling bin, wincing at the unexpected noise. While he studied the tiles, Farley tried to compose himself, praying that the God of Mischief hadn't noticed his little monologue.

"Still," Loki said finally, and Farley wondered at how he could be so quiet and yet so eye-(and ear)-catching.

He walked over, smiling as if nothing happened, and leaned against the sink next to him.

"Even if I have... fallen-" The word still hinted at untold sorrows, but he continued as steadily as before. "At least I'm not alone, hm?" He turned towards him, quiet not-smile in his eyes, and Farley smiled back.

Suddenly, impulse - at least he hoped it was impulse and not total insanity - overrode reason, and he pulled Loki into his arms. To his lack of surprise, Loki tensed - for all his casual disregard for personal space, he still managed to be surprised when Farley returned the favor.

Instead of launching another mental tirade against Odin’s stellar parenting skills, he laid his cheek against Loki’s shoulder, and smiled contentedly as he relaxed. His arms slid around his back to pull him closer, and he lowered his head to nuzzle at his throat.

If this was a lie, then it was a beautiful one.

That's why.

Today, I ended up creating a Texts From Last Night thing from a Avengers behind the scenes photo.

It's been reblogged ~~at least a dozen~~ ETA: thirty-four times since then.

Right now, I'm torn between "Whoa, nifty" and "Dear God, what am I gonna do now?"

So pretty much feeling like this.

#13 - Lovers

After Loki went public, Coulson rang him up and lectured him about dangerous ENEs, friends and family as targets, do not engage, come straight to us, blah bitty blah. As Farley listened to his no-nonsense-just-the-facts-sir voice, he remembered being pulled closer to ward off bleak alien winds though all the windows were shut tight, how of course he always had to sit like that, sea grey eyes fey with need as he rocked teasingly against him.

A couple days later, he paid a little visit to Avengers HQ. Oh happy too-obviously-good-to-be-true coincidence, Loki managed to come up, and everyone had their share of scars.

Tony was in his usual form, cracking about helmet hair and following with the usual "compensating" gag (so many easy responses to that, but he only smiled.)

The mundies (as if anyone could call Romanov or Barton that and keep their legs) bitched about how they couldn't get within a mile of even bruising him, while the Boy Scout had gotten too much so - monologued briefly about how he tried to kick him off a roof back in Where in the Hell, Seattle.

Selvig was happily MIA - thank God - and so was Jane (likewise), but Darcy wasn't, and he laughed through the fates of her last five tasers, either changed into mice or grapefruits or swiped from her hands from halfway across the room.

Thor, well... the idea of an inside man called to him like coffee after a long night of work or pale skin against cotton sheets... But he wasn't ready to deal with the fallout of the inadequacies and neuroses and No, Lokis (Wise Allfather, my Mad ass...) It was painful enough playing audience to Odin and Thor and Laufrey and everything tearing Loki apart - seeing that and knowing you were to blame, even if you didn't mean it...

He wondered what they'd think if even one of them could read his thoughts (tugging Loki's head back gently - or not so much - to lap at his pulse, legs wrapping tight around his back, pulling him closer even as he ratcheted the cuffs shut.) Screwing their first Big Bad sure as hell wasn't gonna net him any points, especially the one he was supposed to be not engaging, let alone (fucksotighthardernoharderAHthatpleasedon'tstop).

On the other hand, the feeling was mutual. He liked Tony and Natasha and Thor and the gang, but the Avengers? Not so much. Not yet.

He toyed with his watch, sneakers brushing against the spelled hiking pack by his seat. What was the point of going to all this trouble if the bastard wasn't gonna-

Lips on his throat, the slipperyroughwarmth enough to make the earth move - no, wait, that was just the generator.

At least Tony didn't push him to the side or order him out of the room. Didn't do him too much good when Loki pitched him out of the window, but the thought was nice, really.

"Right," he deadpanned as he fell out of sight, wand still trained on him, "now go catch him."

"Pity - I'd thought you were joking about-" A silver-red-blonde-blur zooms past the window. "Oh, never mind. There goes my dear brother..."

"You don't sound too worried..."

Loki smiled. "Says the powerful mage who's just been left alone with me. Quite careless, really..." He moved closer, the shift and roll of his hips speaking volumes, and the sinister now I have you, my pretty gaze fading, leaving only the familiar I know you know gleam.

And, oh, he knew.

How had Mitchell put it? 'As if he knows what I look like without my shimmy'?

That was nothing compared to this. Loki's gaze stripped away skin, flesh, blood, and bone, leaving mind and soul - and power, couldn't forget that - open to the knowing gaze of the Liesmith.

It'd be infuriating - possibly even terrifying - if it wasn't such a turn on.

"The best of Earth's heroes," he purred, coming to a stop before him, "and yet one and all blind..."

Farley looked him over, heavy-lidded eyes boring into him as he remembered. The whole time, the God of Mischief's lover - slave to his lust, master of his heart - walked in these halls, and no one even knew.

"Yeah - as a bunch of superpowered bats..."

They should be green.

Farley isn't sure why, himself. It's not as if Loki could be any more different from the Asgardians - dark haired, silver-tongued, and sleek in a world of blonde, straight-talking, college graduate jocks.

Maybe it's knowing what he is - the kin-slaying, never-Daddy's-favorite, test-tube-bastard son of Laufrey - or what he's done, but it just makes sense.

Feels like the Allfather playing a joke, sometimes - Loki's sea smoke eyes clash against his stepbrother's CAVU movie star smile, and only add to that brooding loner vibe that drives him fucking crazy.

It'd almost make him seem harmless - but Farley knows he isn't. Those seas still have depths, and he's seen them enough to know better.

For a long moment, Loki’s eyes stopped moving across the pages, and Farley folded his hands in his lap. It would have been so easy to pull Laufrey’s journal from his hands, but Loki had insisted that he was ready, and this time he was inclined to agree. Except...

Then Loki started to read again, the slow glide across the words glacial compared to how feverishly he’d ripped through it before. But he kept going, and Farley cringed as he remembered what it translated to:

...the child is clearly tainted by its Asgardian heritage, and unfit to live, let alone rule when I am gone. But there is no more time to continue my work - the Allfather’s forces march on Jotunheim as I write this, and our forces must be united if we are to survive. But perhaps when they have been exterminated, my “son” will be the last to go...

Loki set the journal down, not focused on the page, the book, or even the room, but cold fury lined his face. The last time Farley had seen it, men had died, some meeting their end by Loki’s bare hands.

“This-” He sighed through clenched teeth, and the fire dimmed to a heavy smolder. “This tells me nothing I didn’t already know. It only answered the reason why.”

Farley nodded. Based on what he and Thor had told him, Laufrey had been a royal bastard. Reading about his “experiments” only made the news about his death at Loki’s hands sweeter, the part it played in the greater scheme of things be damned.

“What should we do?”

“Burn it, throw it in a volcano, lock it up away somewhere, I don’t care. I have what I needed-”

He frowned, hand moving to flip to the next page, and jerked sharply, like someone had gut-punched him.

The two words were neat, meticulously so, but Farley had no trouble imagining the Allfather having to stop, or worse, to keep going long enough to get them down-

I’m sorry.

Loki slammed the book shut, then let it fall. Mouth twisted into a snarl, you had to look hard to see the tears ready to fall.

“Damn you...” He snarled. “Damn you both...”

FARLEY: Oh... Jesus, Loki-
LOKI: Don't. Just... don't. Please...
*Farley hesitates for a moment, then pulls Loki into a hug. Loki stiffens, but eventually hides his face against Farley.*
Aaand I'm just gonna leave 'em alone for a while, 'kay?

"Someone's been doing well for himself."

"That obvious?" Farley grinned, showing off the new suit. "Did I miss the 'Why don't you do something with your life?' fest?"

"Actually, you're pretty early - Uncle Wainwright's still at the office, I think. Hopefully he'll be stuck long enough for us to have our own little talk."

Farley nodded, then set a small bronze disc wit a yellow gem set in its center on the tablecloth. From another pocket, he pulled out something the size of a matchbox, silver and black, and flipped it open, revealing a screen and keypad.

"Stark Industry's latest cell phone technology." He smiled, pleased with himself. "Guy practically tripped over himself to make these things more secure after everyone started trying to build their own suits."

He pressed a few buttons, then slid the phone across the table. Lamont tensed when he saw the image on the screen, glad he hadn't eaten yet. Stark lay in bed, flat on his back, shirt open, and drugged out of his mind. The veins across his chest, centered around the arc reactor and webbing outwards, were dark and gangrenous, and it didn't take a genius to figure out why.

"Good Lord..." he breathed. "You were right."

"Aren't I usually?"

Lamont shook his head, but smiled anyway. "And we're sure it's the arc reactor."

"Hells yes. If anything, it's gotten worse since that day in his room. I've been trying my best to see if magic would hold it off, but..."

"And Fury knows?"

Farley gave him his best 'well, duh' face. "Yeah, gave me the usual 'I knew about it millennia before you did' schtick, too."

"Did he say anything?"

"Yeah - be careful. For all his heroics and derring-do, he's not exactly stable."

Lamont smiled dryly. "Few in this line of work are. And?"

Farley sighed. "And if he is dying, so soon after he made his little speech about the Iron Man suit not belonging to the government..."

"Everyone will go insane." Lamont paled as he slid the phone back over to him. "Even if they don't say he did this intentionally, they'll tear apart everything he did to get their hands on their own Iron Man. If someone doesn't do something, the fallout will be enormous."

Farley closed his eyes, unwillingly remembering his research into WWII. With something like the Iron Man suit, a weapon - and there was no point in calling it anything else, no matter how much Tony bullshitted over the point - that could destroy tanks and missiles, stop bullets, and crush men where they stood-

"Yeah. It will."

This is really my philosphy with my fandoms, leading to me sparing or "rescuing" as of now: 1) Farley Claymore (either via inter-universal tears in space or time or convenient knocking-out-by-warlocks-so-they-can-manipulate-those-you-know for their own ends), 2) Andrew Ryan (BioShock - Jack tries to fight Fontaine's control, and Tenenbaum sends along the cure to Would You Kindly via ex-Little Sister), 3) Augustus Sinclair (Vita-Chambered to near Pauper's Drop thanks to Tenenbam - seeing a pattern?) (BioShock). It's also become my "don't really feel like going through my icons to see if any fit the situation" icon, hence the default status.

This is from when I was still at Beyond the Rift. I'd seen an icon with a semi-similar statement in randomposting's journal comments (don't remember the details, except that it had Einstein, and not really up to finding it), and decided to make a similar-ish icon in Photoshop. Y'know, now that I have icon space, maybe I should make a couple screencap ones...

Ah, Clue... It may not inspire quite as much strong feelings (positive or otherwise) as The Shadow, Oscar, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but damn if it isn't fucking hilarious. Therefore - Wadsworth. This is typically my "shit has comedically hit the fan" or "WTFBBQ?!?!?1?" icon, and for good reason.

Post-TellTale Episode IV fever and episode V anticipation led me to see if the fanbase had come through and made icons. It took a little doing, but I'm not disappointed. Still haven't actually played I-III, though, sorry to say. (The lack of save function made me quit early-ish on.)

The joy of "MOAR ICON SPACE" and nostalgia made me see if I could find some of the older ones. Success was a bit more mixed, but I'm happy. Besides, how can you not like this? This is a key Doc moment in the movies, especially where he flings open the front door and you see him with that gizmo on his head.

On the subject of Loki - I'm of the opinion that he's the closest we've gotten so far to the offspring of Zuko and Azula, and he's gotten his father's daddy issues and his mother backstabbing and word-twisty-ness and the latent insanity. And for some reason, the ice thing is a side-effect of crazy firecest, and they only think he's a Frost Giant.
