WHY???
Why do I keep torturing myself by watching every Red Sox game?? It's actually painful and yet I do it anyway. I just can't even believe the suckage that is this season. Anyway, that's all I'm going to rant about them. Frankly, they're not even worth the effort...
So.. little health update. I had my radioactive iodine treatment in May. I had to go to the nuclear medicine department (comforting) and take a pill that looked like a grey tylenol gelcap. It came out in a lead lined case. Really made me want to ingest it. Anyway, I was then isolated for a week (at my own home, thankfully) and had to eat this HORRIFIC low-iodine diet for a few weeks before during and after treatment. Towards the end of the diet, I didn't even want to look at food. You don't know how many foods have iodine in them until you can't have them. Thank god for Trader Joe's or I would have been living on unsalted peanut butter on unsalted matzo forever. Mmmmm.... I'm finally able to get off the damn diet and eat real food but.. surprise! The iodine has completely muted my taste buds and I can't taste a damn thing. Joy.
That lasted for about 3 weeks or so. I could only taste really sweet things or really spicy things. Neither of which is my usual fare, but, what the hell. Started getting horrific leg cramps.. like when you've worn heels for the first time in forever and then that night you get a massive charlie horse. It was great. Turns out the combo of the diet and the iodine treatment had given me an electrolyte imbalance. Ate lots of bananas and that actually worked, so no worries there anymore.
My neck is still all swollen from the edema. I'm told it's going to take at LEAST a year for it to go down. That's the one thing that bothers me the most. It's so uncomfortable. It's still really hard to sleep.. I just can't get comfortable.. and this heat and humidity is killing me. I never thought I'd actually ever wish for the summer to end, but I really do. I'm hoping the cooler temps will help. I can't even take a hot shower because my neck swells up.
I'm slowly trying to get my stamina back. At first, I could hardly walk from my car into work, but I've been trying to start walking again and I actually went bowling last week. It was fun! I hobble around like a little old lady for a couple of days, but it was great. And that's pretty much where I'm at right now. I won't know if all the cancer's gone until a year from my RI treatment, at which time I'll have another scan (which seriously sucked the first time...1 hour in a PET scan machine) to see what's going on. The radiation works for a full year, so they want to make sure it's all out of my body before doing the final scan. Fingers crossed.
And just as an aside... does it seem like grammar in fan fiction is getting worse? Or am I just a grammar snob!?! Do they even teach it in school anymore? "ANYWAY" does not have an S on the end! There is no such thing as "I seen or I had went!" You TAUNT somebody and you pull something TAUT. It's a prostate people, not a prostrate! If you are in the prone position, you are on your stomach, not your back. That is supine.
Anyway, that's my rant! Hope everybody's summer is going well. Can't believe it went by so fast and September is just around the corner!
