Now the research begins in earnest.
I've photographed and indexed the names on each of the 42 panels.
14 panels have no names, only flowers
3 of those 14 have faded, illegible, inked names that were never embroidered.
The only non-name is one date - 1903 - on one of the panels.
I'll be using my access to ancestry.com to look up the folks named to see where they were from.
I recognize some of the names from the Red Hook/Milan NY area.
My great grandfather Clayton Hermans was from Milan and was an only child and his mother died in 1895. This leads me to believe that this item cam from my great grandmother Bertha Kilmer's family. She lived in Annandale (near Red Hook) before she married Clayton.
Here they are in 1906, just married.
