The Best (Second) Love in the World

Recently, I am gushing over the discovery of Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai which is the story between Yokozawa and Kirishima Zen, who's introduced as the editor-in-chief of Japun. I'm pretty much pleased to find out that they made a love interest for him because it sucks having to forever pine for Takano knowing he stands no chance and then treat Ritsu in a shitty manner because of it. Regarding his attitude towards Ritsu, I can sort of understand Yokozawa's POV because after all, it was Ritsu who left Takano hanging and then conveniently having amnesia about the whole incident. I also can't get over the fact that Ritsu and Misaki are rather a bit similar for my taste.

It's in novel form right now and the translations can be found at September Scanlations along with one chapter of a side-comic. I can't wait until they turn this into anime (preferably if it's included in the 2nd season of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi).

Also finished watching Otome Youkai Zakuro in around a day. It was surprisingly enjoyable despite being cliché-ridden and predictable halfway through. I think the animation was nicely down especially on the action sequences (though it did come of as repetitive) and I like the pacing overall.

Anyway, gotta play catch up once more with NaNoWriMo. I am a few days behind and I'm so disgusted by my writing atm. :\ At this point of the month, I always have the urge to trash my current work and start anew but I'm avoiding from doing just that. I guess I'll have to trudge on... and cram a few thousand words in the ending days as I inevitably end up doing somehow.

As far as I can remember, I've always seen myself as someone with a really, really poor memory. It's so poor that I could barely remember what I did or ate yesterday, unless of course, there are leftovers in the fridge which could possibly clue me in. My brain also works in a way that I could vividly remember events from my childhood but I often wonder whether it really happened or was just brought about by my overactive imagination.

It's also almost embarrassing to admit that my memory doesn't even give me the grace to remember birthdays and ages, including my own, and I end up having to rely on sites like Friendster and Facebook to remind me. Kind of pointless too since I will forget anyway as soon as I log off from the computer. My brother was nice enough to let me play the "guess his birthday game" with him through text messaging one day. I ended up wasting a grand total of Php10 before he gave up and told me not only his birthday but also my sister's, aunt's, and paternal grandmother's as well. He also recommended that I take the newest memory enhancer pill in the market called Glutaphos. Hmph. As if I'm *that* senile.

Anyway, on that same day I was having the ill-conceived conversation with him, I was also at a dinner party where this familiar lady kept smiling at me and greeting me. I, being polite and all, would smile and nod vaguely back while trying my hardest to recall her name. Finally, on my taxi ride home, I turned to my companion and said, "I remember her name now. It's Pines."

And at the back of my mind, I had known it was related to a tree.

PS. Who names their offspring after a tree anyways? Well, aside from Professor Oak of Pokemon that is.

Of Time Leaps and Beyond

I finally was able to watch Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) last Sunday afternoon after nearly two months of anticipation. It wasn't easy getting a chance to view it though. First was the rain in all its torrential glory which poured just before we were about to leave the house. When we did get to the mall, I was dismayed to find out that the tickets were already sold out one hour before the showing time and the next show time was not until late in the evening.

Not to be completely discouraged, my companion and I lingered near the cinema entrance in hopes that we might get a chance to enter even without tickets. There were already two queues formed, the second one being ticketless folks like us. Anyway, thanks to my companion's tenacity and an anonymous benefactor, we managed to score VIP passes to get inside. I don't know how it happened either but I sure was practically weeping for joy by the turn of events.

And it was all worth it.

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo or TokiKake, for short, is one of the best animated movie I've seen in a long time. To summarize, it's a story about a 17-year-old girl named Konno Makoto who gains the power to literally "leap" backwards in time after being involved in a train accident. She soon uses her newfound ability to improve her grades and prevent personal mishaps from happening. Unfortunately, things just doesn't go the way she wants and she is soon forced to make choices that could affect the future of her friends and family forever. It's a relatively simple plot and while it's told in a light-hearted and often humorous fashion, there's a profoundness to it that reflects on the consequences of one's actions.

It made me wonder about a number of things that I've done in the past and the sheer stupidity of it. I am just becoming to realize that what I did before could possibly affect my chances of getting a favorable job in the near future. I guess what's done is done and there's really no point in wishing that I could somehow leap through time and eat that pudding one hundred times over. I do try to learn from my previous mistakes and everyday, I strive to be a better version of myself. Most of the time anyway. Procrastination usually gets in the way.

Given the chance, would you go back and turn events of your life the other way around?

I was supposed to blog about the cosplay event I attended earlier on but I got severely distracted by the fire that had occured just down the end of the street moments ago. I’m not sure about the exact location of it but my guess is it’s the old warehouse that was turned into a badminton court located right behind the train station. If that’s the case, then it’s such a loss since I sometimes spend the weekend playing with whoever I can drag with me. It’s most ironic that March 1 is the beginning of the Fire Prevention Month.

Noises

For the last couple of nights, I’ve had the trouble of sleeping not only because of my ceaseless coughing ever since I’ve been sick this week but also because of the scratching noises coming from within the top portion of my closet.

The said noises usually occur around midnight just after I have climbed onto my bed and while I’m not much of a believer of anything supernatural, I can’t help but imagine what sort of monsters could have possibly been hiding in there. Ever since I moved into that room, I’ve always had this impulse to make sure that the closet doors are closed securely. If they were but a centimeter ajar, I would get up again just to tightly shut them — no matter how much tired I am. I guess it’s the feeling that I have that someone or something could be watching me from behind the depths of my clothes strewn inside.

I mentioned the occurence to S and she surmised that there might have been rats which have found their way from above the closet after the recent construction done on the floor above us.

Oh, just brilliant.

However, S did not seem as shocked or horrified as I was or as I was expecting her to be especially since it’s her things which are currently stored in that area. I refuse to step forward and open those closet doors alone for the fear of rabid pests jumping out and biting me all over. Later, I’m definitely calling the maintainance man and hope that he can get the situation under control before S’s belongings get damaged.

The Mysterious Cotton Buds

Yesterday afternoon, as I was buying instant noodles from the grocery store downstairs, the new security guard appoarched me after giving me a rather appraising look:

Him: Ma’am, what room do you live in?
Me, raising an eyebrow: Rm ***.
Him: Oh
. . .
Well, you see, some people are complaining of falling cotton buds coming from your place.
Me: HUH?

I thought nothing more of our conversation, strange as it was, until this morning when I was watering the plants by our veranda. It came back to my mind and I mused that if there’s anything the neighbors should be complaining about, it would be the trickling drops of water and bits of soil which I know could be very, very annoying especially if you had just washed your car… or your hair. Just as I was finishing my chore, I noticed something very curious indeed.

By the ledge lay a tiny single innocent-looking cotton bud¹ which made give me credit to the poor guard who was only doing his job.

That led me to ponder about it. Where on earth could those have came from? Could it be that they were accidentally dropped by aliens on their way to their home planet after taking some samples of Earth’s technology? Perhaps it’s some sign by a Higher Being Up There of an impending doom? I remembered from our Bible classes that it rained manna… but raining cotton buds?

Of course, the simplest answer would be that I have terribly bored neighbors living upstairs who have nothing better to do than let others be blamed for their foolishness. I rest my case.

Anyway, I have finally put up a somewhat new layout. Technically, it’s a few weeks old already but nothing like promoting it, eh? Also, I’m working revising the content of my site since I’ve been neglecting it as of late.

Christmas Greetings to Everyone!

I suppose I’m in no position to complain but this year had been one of the worse Christmas in my life. As a person who’s not much into any kind of celebrations… I would have wanted my Christmas to be as quiet and as stress-free as possible. Instead, I was thrown into a whirlwind of activities courtesy of S.

We spent Christmas Eve at the house of one of her old friends and because it was a potluck dinner, I helped prepare biko (a sweet rice cake made with coconut milk and brown sugar) topped with latik (coconut milk that’s stirred until the oil is separated and what’s left is something that’s almost fried and absolutely delicious) with my cousin who came over to visit. I also made lasagna for the first time and although it was a bit bland and the Béchamel sauce was a bit lacking, I was proud of my work. Too bad it was already cool by the time we ate it and I think no one was able to enjoy it.

Tired as I was today, I still had to make banana bread for the Christmas party for the family reunion (which I skipped without guilt, by the way). I was in the middle of baking it when I realized that I FORGOT TO PUT NOT ONE BIT ON SUGAR ON IT. D’oh! And there I was wondering why it’s dry while I was mixing it.

S is positive as always, telling me not to worry about it too much. If I’m lucky, they’ll think that it’s the one of those “healthy sugar-free” recipes and forget about how icky it tastes. Blah.

Anyway, besides that, I’m still hoping that’ll my day will turn for the better… I still might win the lottery or something. I hope you guys have a better Christmas than I did. Cheers~!

There have been a lot of things going on but lately, I’ve been feeling less inclined to blog about them. At the moment, I’m supposed to be finishing a report that should have been submitted months ago¹.

I’m going to be terribly busy over the next couple of weeks. For one thing, I am going to graduate on the 27th and my school thought that it was smart of them to overload us with requirements, payment dues, and whatnot. Then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is going to be out in a span of five days and I can’t believe I’m actually paying more attention to that compared my own graduation.

Anyway, I’m taking an open hiatus just for the next two to three weeks. I may occasionally lurk at Snark Forums, read the entries on my RSS feed, and my movie log is frequently updated but that’s the extent of my Internet activity.

Au revoir for now!

It seemed to me that I am I am jinxed whenever I visit Shangri-la Mall. The last time I’ve been there, I almost got lost. Yesterday, I was to meet S at the mall so that we could watch Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, one of the films being shown for the French Spring Film Festival. As usual, I had to take the MRT going there. I found the ride quite enjoyable¹ until we neared the station. Suddenly, there was a strong odor of burning rubber and I almost gagged while getting off the train. I approached the exit booths and inserted my magnetic ticket in the machine only to find out that it woundn’t work and I couldn’t get out of the station.

I approached the security guard nearby and smirking, he told me that I used the wrong ticket! The ticket I used was meant for an another station and I forced to use all my coins in order to buy an new one.

Nevertheless, I told myelf, this day couldn’t get any worse. Apparently, it did. It turned out that the tickets for the film were already sold out and we had to wait until the weekend for the next showing. We decided to watch Ocean’s Thirteen instead but along the way, S and I got into an argument and we choose to sit far away from each other. I was expecting this sequel to be horrible, after the POTC3 fiasco, and I found out that it was enjoyable. It was certainly better than Ocean’s 12, which plot I never undertstood no matter how many times I watched it.

Afterwards, we dined at Cyma, a Greek restaurant. S ordered Saganaki or flaming cheese for me. It was an interesting dish since it’s served flambé together with the waiters shouting “Hopa! (Cheers!)” Anyway, that’s about the good thing about the place. The salad that we also ordered was already unavailable² and the lamb shish-kebabs were almost overcooked and had plenty of ligaments. For some reason, the service staff seemed fond of taking pictures of themselves in front of the customers and that’s very unprofessional, methinks.

It’s too bad that that it’s the only Greek cuisine restaurant that I know of. So, what cuisine would you wish to try out?

Wordpress Misadventure

Upon waking up this morning, I planned to get down to business and upgrade my Wordpress to the latest Wordpress 2.2 “Getz” after waiting to do so for about two weeks. It seemed that everything had gone smoothly until I tried to access the upgrade.php file. Much to my surprise, it displayed a mean message saying Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp() etcetera... I tried viewing my site but it also displayed the same error. Frustrated, I deleted all the files and tried uploading them again but to no avail. Finally, I decided to reupload my current Wordpress version, 2.1.3, and it worked! I was so relieved. I thought I was about to do something drastic like switching to another blogging software. I never had this problem before and I think it’ll be some time before I decide to upgrade again.

To ease my frustration, there’s a new layout gracing Aurorean’s pages. It was partly inspired from this deviantArt entry and AFI’s The Boy Who Destroyed the World. I haven’t touched my pencils and sketchbook in over a three months and I’m quite happy on how this turned out even if my friend mentioned that she can’t decided whether it’s a male or female. Uhm, androgynous perhaps?

Today is my dearest Ninang’s 60 something birthday and I have to cook for her and her closest friends this coming weekend. I’m having a hard time trying to come up with a menu since they’re all extremely finicky when it comes to food. I just hope I don’t disappoint.

I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End this morning and I found it torturously long and confusing. Don’t get me wrong. I am an unabashed POTC fangirl and I still can’t get over the piratey hotness that is Jack Sparrow (even if he has gotten more out-of-whack than usual). Unfortuately, I can’t ignore the fact that this movie is crammed with more plot twists and turns than Davy Jone’s squirming tentacles. The movie’s beginning is rather dark and a bit disturbing (for a G rating, that is) and after the first scene, it soon became an effort to distinguish between who’s betraying/doublecrossing/triplecrossing/quadruplecrossing who. In the end, the heroes just have to win, right?

If you haven’t watched the first two films of the franchise, you might not want to bother with this one. What made it worth watching is the performance of Geofrrey Rush as Capt. Barbossa who, in my opinion, is the only “true” pirate within the film and the brief but memorable appearance of Keith Richards. Also, if you made it through the film, you might as well stay until the ending credits.

I swear my IQ is going to hit rock bottom some time soon. Pretending to be smart is never my strong point.

Just this morning, I was impatiently waiting for the water to boil while carrying a conversation with my ninang. I mentioned to her that the water was taking its time and with all seriousness, my next statement was — “If the water have previously boiled before, will it boil again?”

Ninang almost choked on her food.

On a related note, I remember an episode in Hell’s Kitchen where a contestant poured cold water on a stock pot because she thought it will boil faster than hot water. I could never forget Chef Ramsey’s WTF face.

There’s not much choice when it comes to films being shown in movie theaters these days. Almost every cinema in town is showing nothing except for Spiderman 3 and I rather not get into the hype just yet. Instead, I opted to watch Pan’s Labyrinth and I was not disappointed that I did.

The story is reminiscent to Narnia but with a much darker and more dramatic tone. Like they say, it’s a fairy tale for grown-ups especially for those who enjoy a little bit of blood splattering here and there. Viewers will have no trouble of following the storyline since the movie is basically visual-driven and dialogues are succinct and straight-to-the-point. All in all, it’s a movie that I’ll recommend to anyone’s who’s over 13 years.

A “new” layout, finally! Let me introduce Phil, a bee stuck in an old Halloween costume. He has a fondness for caramel-coated sweets and ramen soup and he likes nothing more than being able to sing in a karaoke. His smile looks a bit freaky, I think, and it’ll take a little getting used to.

I originally planned for this layout to be fluid however, I can’t figure out how not to make it too stretched out on larger resolutions. Any ideas? The images was a pain to create from paper to Photoshop and I’m happy with the results even if it’s still a bit messy. Ahaha. More practice for me then.

Out of curiousity, I finally decided to watch the Filipino version of popular anime Bleach, currently being shown on one of our local channels, and I am LAMENTING over the fact that it’s the worst dubbed anime EVER. The lead roles was dubbed by some Starstruck survivors and their voices are flat, emotionless, and grossly out of character. It’s too obvious that they’re reading from the script. I hope that they improve since the series has a long way to go.

By the way, the title of this entry is from Maroon 5’s latest single from their upcoming album which is dangerously being overplayed on my media player.

Water Everywhere

My apologies for the glaring lack of updates. I have been caught up with very personal things and for a while, I lost the interest to blog. Anyway, my life has returned to its state of normality annd everything seems fine now.

Yesterday afternoon, our water service got cut off for no apparent reason. I was fortunate enough to have taken a bath during the morning and I didn’t have to bother with the sweltering heat we all call summer that much.

Today, I stepped out of our door to find that the entire passageway to the stairs and even the staircase are flooded. Water from the water tank located on the fifth floor¹ which provides our apartment complex’s supply had overflowed and was dripping continously. Our landlady, who also happens to be my aunt, have been in an angry state the whole day. I could hear her shouting obscenities from the ground floor and I would hate to cross her path.

Outside, it started raining elephants to the point that rain water is gushing at an ankle-deep level down the street.

All in all, it has been a very wet day.

By midnight tonight (UTC 8+) all the styles of this site will be disabled. No worries though! This is for CSS Naked Day in hopes of promoting web standards and will last for only 24 48 hours. I actually wasn’t planning to do this since I was supposed to go out-of-town for the weekend.

Unfortunately, my trip didn’t push through and here I am stripping down to the bare essentials.

There’s something funky about the weather lately. It actually rains during noontime for about a minute or less. In the middle of summer. I’m not going to complain though. It’s better than the hot and humid weather I’m still trying to get accustomed to after 20 years of living here.

Edit: For some reason, both of the two plugins I installed that strips the CSS wasn’t working.
