5.9 Earthquake

I was scared. I kind of just laughed through the whole thing out of pure nerves.

The epicenter was just northwest of Richmond, Virgina, where I live, and my whole apartment was trembling.

We never, I mean never get earthquakes like this on the east coast. Not to sound like a crybaby, since thankfully there wasn't much damage and I haven't heard of anyone who was hurt. But still, ooo it was unsettling.

My phone still doesn't work. I cant call my dad or sister.

That's the worst, I really need my phone to work...

I'm finally back from vacation in Washington state.
It was a really good time and I got to walk along the Pacific Ocean for the first time. But I've never been so happy to be back home. I have so many messages piled up and commissions and doujin to finish!

And school starts next week.

I've been a bit tense and on edge lately. I'm going to Richmond tomorrow to move apartments. Apparently, my current managment wants me to move 10 days eariler than was originally specified on my lease. I think I'll be needing a refund on rent if that's the case. This just messes my plans up for the rest of July. /dejection.

But good time to do a quick Fanfiction chapter, right? It's very short, but I hope you like it!!! It's very Kid/Liz centric again, but the next chapters should be a lot more Patty. ^___^

So I sat down to draw and relax like I do almost every evening, and maid Kid just wouldn't leave my head. Specifically, maid!Kid and mansuit!Liz being hot together and I had to draw them to free up some space in my brain. It was going to be a conventional Liz hitting on Kid, but then something happened, I don't know what.

But it doesn't get more ridiculous than this.

What's your SE fanbase pet peeve?

I was thinking this week a bit about how I've been in Soul Eater fandom for a little more than two years now. It really has some serious staying power for me! And that's partly because I love the fandom. I don't think I could ever ragequit SE simply because talking about the series with other fans is too much fun.

But I have my pet peeves with the fandom/fanbase. These bug me everytime I see them. I was really curious if you guys felt the same or if you have more to add.

1. Crona's gender.
I have no problem with people speculating on Crona's gender. It's definetly relievant and fine to discuss. Personally, I like that Crona is ambiguous and I kind of hope that his/her gender is never revealed. But OH MY GOD the way people will constantly bicker about it is just beyond me. On basically every amv and every fanart, Crona's gender is hotly debated as if it were the single most important thing to the character.

2. Kid's OCD.
I have complicated feelings about this one. I know that Kid's symmetry OCD is treated as a constant gag and I laughed my ass off at every OCD breakdown scene in the anime. At the same time it's also treated pretty realistically. But when I see fangirls basically interpert REAL LIFE OCD as being just has hilarious and cute and cool, I cringe. I'm also pretty sure that 25% of Kid's fanbase does NOT have OCD. There is so much perpetuation of OCD has a joke disorder.
People who truely have a real life disorder will usually keep quiet about it and know how uncool it can be. I discovered Kid's character only a few months after the sudden onset of my impulse control disorder (that I don't wish so name specifically). And something about his badassery despite or because of his OCD was comforting to me.

3. Liz and Patty as 2 in 1
Granted, Liz and Patty are sisters, Kid's twin guns and almost never apart, but I get annoyed the way they're packaged into one character by fanbase. I can't say how many times I've seen comments of people not even remembering who is who. Liz and Patty are different people with unique personalities! Another thing that bothers me is when I hear people refer to them only has Kid's guns. Grrrrr.

4. Gag gone too far
"This picture is not symmetrical!" There's no telling how many times I've heard it. Way to beat something to death.

5. Moe Moe porno pairings.
This isn't specific to Soul Eater and I know it'll never go away, but I can still hate it with all my might!

Dream log I

So today my tablet driver decided to not work.

It turned out that just rebooting the computer did the trick and now it seems the tablet works fine. But not before giving me a mini heart attack. I realize now that I think of my tablet as much more than just a tablet. It is my primary medium of expression. I don't mean to be too dependent on it, but I feel that if I didn't have my tablet for more than a week I'd fall into a deep angst. And I most definitely need it everyday for this doujin project.

As a side note, My display driver has a hiccup almost every day. Only for a few seconds, but it bothers me too. Anyone know why that might happen?

But Anyway, the real reason for this post,

I really love dreams. Good or bad, I love dreaming and it's important to me as an artist that I remember them. Even though I tell myself every single time, I must write this down, it never happens. So prepare, LJ, I shall use you as a dream log.

For the record, most of my dreams have disturbing themes. Usually it's mild and just a little odd but I just thought I'd put that out there as a precaution.

Dream Log I:

The dream starts with me visiting a friend’s house. The friend opens the door for me, but as soon as I step into the foyer she leaves me and I’m left to explore the house by myself. It’s immediately apparent that this house is actually a mansion on the inside. Think Palladian architecture with spacious rooms and extremely elegant and expensive looking furniture. There is a marble fireplace and crystal chandeliers in almost every room. As I walk through this mansion I see the largest most beautiful grand piano ever and framed paintings of many different art movements. It’s an artsy place and I’m basically dumbstruck by the wealth and beauty.

In the room with the piano I see this little snow white duck waddling around like it owned the place. I immediately assume that this duck is kept as a pet. I pick it up and stroke its back. This duck is very complacent and allows me to hold it without even a single quack I was even able to unfold his wings and admire him (My decided gender) from every angle. Before long I come to the conclusion that I absolutely must take a shower with this duck.

Little aquatic bird in arm, I find the nearest bathroom. Of course, the bathroom’s style matches the other rooms flawlessly. The gold fixture shower is so inviting that I hop right in without even taking off my clothes first. I cover the drain with a gold stop and start a steaming warm shower. I’m still holding the duck, who is still being ever so patient with me. I experimentally lather the various shampoos and conditioners from pumps on the wall into my hair as the water level in the tub rises to just below my knees. Then, thinking the duck would have fun paddling around in the tub as I finished my shower, I gently lower him so his body is perfectly level with water and feet submerged. I release him, ready for when he will happily swim circles around me.

But he instantly sinks the bottom like Thanksgiving turkey. I can’t see his white feathers through the fine milky soap floating on top of the water. Not good.

I pull him out. How was I to know that he couldn’t or refused to swim? He is a freaking duck. But he drowned.

In that few seconds, he drowned. So now I hold his dripping wet limp body. I force myself to remain calm even though on the inside I’m in a panic. I jump out of the shower and grab the first plush bath towel I can find to wrap his body. I rub him gently in an attempt to resuscitate the poor thing. And it actually works! His head poked up weakly. I can feel him shivering pretty hard. I can only guess that it is the shock of the transfer from warm shower to the room temperature air. So I hug him and the towel to my chest and rub him a bit more, trying to soothe him. God what a delicate duck! At this point, while very perplexed, I am relieved that I didn’t kill him. His shivering was scaring me a bit, but I was confident that he’d be okay.

I stood up to take him back to the room where I’d found him. But a wave of pure cold horror comes over me when I see something on the ground.

It’s the duck’s legs.

Both his legs came off as neatly as grasshopper legs. DID I RESUSCITATE HIM TOO HARD? THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS DUCK?

I’m now visibility freaking out. The only thought in my mind now was, ‘I don’t like this. I need out of this house.’ I fold back the towel to look at the duck in my arms, afraid for the worst. It was the worst. He was dead.

Moe spawning late nights.

It's the second night in a row that I've pulled a doujin drawing all-nighter, so my general state of being is summed up quite nicely by Kiddo here,

Then I took a break from drawing doujin stuff, to draw... other very similar stuff. orz.

Being really tired some how put me in a moe drawing mood. This almost never happens as I'm not that comfortable drawing moe style. I just doesn't suite me, I think.

But Liz is really really cute when she's scared. haha. I think the fandom would flip if we ever got a Big Daddy and Son insane combo. RUN

Not sure why insane!Kid has a slight blush. It's scary though.

After half a month of dithering and some polishing of panels here and there, I finally got my serious back.

I roughed in 4 whole pages for my Kidliz doujinshi. They were pages for the introduction, pages I badly needed to set up the story. Whew. Now I have myself the ending to draw. And after that comes the final inking/toning. Hopefully I can be beast at that and finally finished the art of this doujin. . . .
It has been on my brain for a year ...

Somehow, at the end of each semester, after I have completed all of my exams my brain is straight up assaulted with inspiration and ideas for art and comics, paintings and things. It's so intense that unfortunately, I have to pick and choose only the ones that I want to execute the most.

Today, I got the best idea for a kidliz comic series..... (troika/character study actually with drama romance and angst)
A totally seperate plot from the doujin I'm already working on, but one that is tugging at my brain.

It's such a wonderful idea (to me at least) that I nearly shake from the excitement of it.

To bad, it'd probably take me 9794107593 weeks to draw/write it.

So to those whom it may concern, PLEASE BRICK ME EVERY WEEK FOREVER ... untill I get the idea on paper .... er web.

I just finished reading the 44 chapters
44 chapters....
of Deadman Wonderland. I took me about 8-9 hours but I swear I could not put this manga down. Now I'm anxiously awaiting chapter 45 in May.

I can't recommend DW to everyone. It is very very violent and disturbing.
It's extremely emotional, particualarly painful emotions. I found some parts so heartbreaking that they became hard to get through.
But it is very good and I freaking love just about all of the main charcters and (this never happens) I adore the lead character, Ganta Igarashi/Wookpecker. Loooooooooove that boy.

Also keeping up with the anime. It's just the thing I needed to fill the void of Soul Eater.

18 Days came today!!!

And fact: I looooooooove cemeteries.

After seeing the previews of the art book, 18 Days that nenena posted recently, I knew I just had to have this book and I have never been more happy with a purchase EVER.

I think what amazes me the most about Singh's art is when I look at the lines I'm in awe of the execution, the exquisite craftsmanship and yet I can see that they are not mechanical in the least. Some lines are rougher more gestural than others. It maintains that very human quality that I love so much. AND SOMEONE HELP ME, THE COLORS. Wow.

I love this book so much.

Also I saw the city pyramid last weekend lol. Actually, memorial to the confederate dead. It's part of the huge, beautiful cemetery I'm so lucky to live next to while at school. My mind goes blank whenever I visit the place. It's so serene and refreshing. Weird? Maybe.

My dear friends (from left to right) Ashley, Katy and Jessie are huddled up and shivering, begging me to take the picture faster.

KidLiz fan comic update: I have 16 pages of rough drafts completed and I am fixing up the script.
I won't be able to contain my joy when the rough draft is finished. Soon, I hope. Very soon.

INCEPTION

Inception Inception Inception Inception.

I liked this movie. k. K? Now you go watch it.

It was visually stunning, and not just technically, but also in the way the visuals brilliantly took care of so much of the storytelling. It was beautiful like diving into a painting.

The editing was great. The slow motion parts were done very well. Unlike how slow mo is often gratituoiusly used in most action films today, it wasn't used for the action, but the falling (the kicks as the movie puts it). It was literally breath taking.

All the suspension and freaking bizarre gravity used throughout was wonderous.

There is a fight sequence in the movie that happens all under the influence of the slowed down gravity of a van rolling down a hill. The Most Fresh, Exciting, sexy Fight Scene Ever.

Even though the movie deals with a triple-level dream, each level effecting the one below it and existing on different rates of time, multiple professions, or specialities in subconscious security such as: Extractor, Point man, Architect, Forger and Chemist, and much complex detail throughout, I never felt lost. It was simply amazing how the exposition was dealt with. I was entertained, constantly intrigued and never once felt spoon fed imformation.

Much like how time was being played with in the slowed down world of the dream, I got sucked in and my time in the theater seemed to stop and when it was done it hardly felt like 148 minutes..

The movie had rich detail, and powerful guiding threads. The inception, madness, and limbo elements were a little weird at first, but ultimately believable.

It stuck to by brain, it was awesome.
