Dear Yuletide writer

Thank you for writing for me. I'm really looking forward to the story you'll write. Any story about any one of these characters would be brilliant. I've included some prompts below and in my sign up because I find them really helpful myself, but feel free to completely ignore them and go with whatever inspires you, even if it’s very different.

I’m not terribly active on dreamwidth any more, but you can find me on tumblr as silveronthetree, AO3 as silveronthetree and twitter as scatteredsilver.

I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character-based stories and also crossovers, time travel and alternate universes, especially canon divergence AUs. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters) and epistolary fic. I love stories about 'how they got together' and friends turning into lovers, but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I like reading about fight sex and awkward first, second or even twenty-seventh time sex. I love female characters so I would be a little sad if they were completely sidelined. I love stories with a strong sense of place. I like canon pairings and obscure canon details. I like stories about all kinds of families. I also like to read seasonal stories if it fits in with the source.

I don't have many "do not wants"- just non-canonical major character death, post-apocalyptic scenarios and non-canonical limb injuries.

Requests

Titans (TV 2018)
Dick Grayson, Donna Troy, Jericho (Joseph) Wilson, Koriand'r

I’ve been enjoying many things about Titans, especially when it gets the relationships between characters right. I’d like to read fic about any of these characters and I’m happy if you just decide to write about one or two of them. You could write about their pasts, their history together, speculate about the future or fill in missing moments from the show. Kory and Donna’s crime fighting team-up was a highlight and more about that would be great. Jericho and Dick’s history was heart breaking, but I’d like to know more about how they got to know each other, or what would happen if Jericho came back to life. Dick and Donna’s friendship has been a part of their lives for a long time - what was it like when they were younger or how might it play out in the future? Or anything involving Dick and Kory would be fantastic. I’d be good with anything shippy for these combinations too.

England Series - K. J. Charles
Archie Curtis, Daniel da Silva

Think of England is my favourite K.J. Charles book and I'd love to read anything about Archie and Daniel, particularly set during or after the events of the book. Maybe a story about their adjustment to working together and being in a relationship, which must've had its tough moments. How does their relationship develop? What was their first official job together like? Daniel's point of view on any of the events in the book would be fascinating. It was great seeing a glimpse of this in the ‘Song for a Viking’ short story and more along these lines would be very welcome.

Green Knowe Series - Lucy M. Boston
Mrs. Oldknow, Toseland "Tolly" Oldknow

I love the atmosphere of these books and the way that the history is tied so vividly to the house and the people who live in it. These books delighted me and scared me as a child. Any story involving Tolly or his grandmother, Mrs Oldknow would be wonderful, by themselves, together, or with other characters from the series. Here are a few ideas you might like to try - What happens to Tolly after the books? Are there any other children that he meets from the past or from the future? What was Mrs Oldknow's childhood like and when did she find out about the Others? What happened during the holidays that didn't appear in the stories? Is there a missing moment from the books that you'd like to explore?

I received a lovely drabble for a similar prompt a few years ago but I'd love to see more fic about these characters.

Grayson (Comics)
Dick Grayson, Tiger, Helena Bertinelli

As you might guess Dick Grayson is one of my favourite characters and Grayson is probably my favourite Dick-centric comic. Tiger was a fantastic new character, and acted as the perfect foil for Dick’s playfulness and I enjoyed the new take on Helena. The spy shenanigans and undercover scenarios made an incredibly fun comic. I’d love anything about these characters, whether it is gen fic or maybe Dick/Helena or Dick/Tiger. Were there any missions that we didn’t see in the comics? What happened after Dick left Spyral and returned to Gotham? I’m relatively up to date with comics so their reactions to the whole “Ric” Grayson thing would be entertaining. Or even a more serious take on the characters and the scenarios they ended up in than in this comic.

Thank you for writing, I hope you have fun and I’m super excited to see what you come up with.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

But this was a wonderful read and I'm so glad the author chose this topic because it was the perfect story about sisterhood. Each sister leapt off the page with spot on characterisation and I loved the open ending. Go and read it now!

*

And my fic was so much fun to write! I was filled with glee when I read the assignment which featured:
- ODD COUPLE SPY SHENANIGANS
- people being kind to each other
- science (and SCIENCE!)
- mystery plots/casefic

I had so much on over the last few months that defaulting would've saved my stress levels, but the prompt was so awesome and so completely down my street! Early 20th Century setting with science and a mystery! I was really happy with the response to the fic and practically everyone assured me that there wasn't too much palaeontology which was a big concern as I'd fallen down several research rabbit holes.

all it does is rain (7456 words) by silveronthetree
(Think of England - K.
Dear Yuletide Writer

Thank you for writing for me, I know I will enjoy the story that you'll write about these characters. I've included prompts because I know that can sometimes be helpful, but if you aren't inspired by them, or if you have a completely different story you want to tell - go for it! I will try reading pretty much anything once and I love new perspectives on the fandoms and characters I like.

I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character based stories and also crossovers, time travel and alternate universes. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
Katherine "Kitty" Song-Covey, Lara Jean Song-Covey, Margot Song-Covey, Peter Kavinsky
This was such a perfect romcom and I loved Lara Jean’s friendship and romance with Peter as well the relationship between the sisters. I’d love to see some missing moments from the story – as Lara Jean and Peter get to know each other again, any interactions between the sisters, how Margot felt while she was away. Or maybe a what happens next after the movie, I haven’t read the books yet so you can get as creative as you like.

New Amsterdam
Eva Marquez, John Amsterdam
All the loose ends left by the cancellation of this show made me desperate for fic. Does John ever find his one true love and regain mortality, or was that just constructed to give him hope? What happens next? I loved the chemistry between John and Eva, so if you'd like to explore that as a working partnership, friendship or even a relationship, I'd be happy. You could write a casefile, a story set in the next episode, a flashback into Eva or John's past or an alternate series finale as if there were several more seasons

Think of England - K. J. Charles
Archie Curtis, Daniel da Silva
This is my favourite K.J. Charles book and I'd love to read anything about Archie and Daniel, particularly set during or after the events of the book. I'd love anything you write about either of them but here are some things you could explore. Did Susan's school friends think of her as wildly adventurous or was she the sensible, grown up one everywhere? What was growing up like for Nancy and why did she become so protective of her mother? I’d also be happy to read about any romantic relationships that might develop – either John/Nancy or Susan/Nancy. Did any of the three of them spend time together that wasn't recorded in the books? What were their experiences of learning to sail like? Did they stay in touch as they grew up and how different were their later lives?

Devil's Cub - Georgette Heyer
Dominic Alastair, Mary Challoner
This is my absolute favourite Heyer novel and I would read pretty much anything about Dominic and Mary. What happens to them after the book ends? How easy is their marriage when they return to life in England? How does Mary deal with the enormous changes to her life brought by joining the Alastair family? And does how does Dominic adapt to having a wife? Something that explores their passionate relationship and the intimacy that develops between them would also be great. Or maybe even an alternate universe where something significant about the events or the setting is changed.

Happy writing!

I like stories about all kinds of families.

Ahsoka Tano/Sabé
We don’t know much about Sabé and that is one of the things that intrigues me about pairings with her. We know she had a lot of experience as Padmé’s decoy but what happened after that. Did she and Ahsoka ever meet, either before or after Padmé’s death? What happened? Did they have much in common? Were they both running from the Empire?

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Shmi Skywalker
I read a fic that featured this pairing once and it was lovely and I’m intrigued by this as a pairing. They never met in canon but they both cared very much for Anakin and I wondered what would’ve happened if they’d joined forces in raising him.

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Owen Lars/Beru Whitesun
They were all stuck on Tatooine together and we know there is a lot of tension between them all by the time Luke is grown. How did that happen? Was it always like that or was there an AU where they all worked together to raise and protect Luke? How would their relationship look?

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Leia Organa
I think this is a time travel kind of thing but I’d love to know what might happen if these two met at any point.

Asajj Ventress/Mara Jade
I know these two from totally different universes but what would happen if they met? Would they feel they had much in common, or not? Sure, they’ve both been assassins, sure they were apprentices of a sort to a Sith but does that make them alike?

Ahsoka Tano/Sabé
We don’t know much about Sabé and that is one of the things that intrigues me about pairings with her. We know she had a lot of experience as Padmé’s decoy but what happened after that. Did she and Ahsoka ever meet, either before or after Padmé’s death? What happened? Did they have much in common?
I just submitted my Yuletide nominations and New Amsterdam has finally made it to the top of my list of things that I'm the only one who'll think of nominating. (It's probably completely unrelated to the fact that I'm in (Old) Amsterdam right now. Probably.)

New Amsterdam (TV 2008)
John Amsterdam
Eva Marquez
Omar York
Lily Mae Brown

Anne of Green Gables
Rilla Blythe
Kenneth Ford
Shirley Blythe
Jem Blythe

Swallows and Amazons (Arthur Ransome)
John Walker
Nancy Blackett
Susan Walker
Peggy Blackett

There are a few other things on my wishlist (always Biggles), but it looks as if someone already nominated Think of England (K.J. Charles) which was the one thing I definitely wanted.

I've also submitted some nominations to the very awesome swrarepairs exchange. I didn't have to worry much over those as it is pretty much the more the merrier when it comes to nominations and signups. I nominated these pairings.

Qui-Gon Jinn/Shmi Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Luke Skywalker
Finn/Luke Skywalker
Harter Kalonia/Luke Skywalker
Ahsoka Tano/Sabé
Anakin Skywalker/Ahsoka Tano
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Sabé
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Shmi Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Owen Lars/Beru Whitesun
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Asajj Ventress
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Darth Maul
Obi-Wan Kenobi/Leia Organa
Asajj Ventress/Mara Jade

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.
Dear Yoda

Thank you for writing for me and I hope these prompts inspire you.

Likes/dislikes

I'm pretty easy going and I'll try reading practically anything so don't worry too much about whether I'll like something. Tropes I love include enemies to friends to lovers, fake dating, outside points of view, case fic, characters having a conversation over food or drink, time travel, canon AUs where one thing changes, AUs where a character lives instead of dies, brief encounters.

I'm not the biggest fan of major character death unless it's already happened in canon, non canonical limb injuries, torture or Sith!AUs.

Prompts

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Luke Skywalker
I like seeing characters I adore together and these two didn't get to spend much time with each other. I want to see how you'd get them together whether it is dating a Force ghost, time travel, Jedi lessons etc. Or there is so much Obi-Wan never told Luke, if Obi-Wan lived how do you think he'd handle revealing his secrets to Luke.

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Ahsoka Tano
These two have been through a lot together. Do they still trust each other? What would happen if they met again after the Clone Wars? Maybe they meet in a bar on Tatooine? Maybe they get involved in one last mission together?

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka was so close to Obi-Wan when she was a Padawan. You could write about a mission they worked on together or maybe how they first got to know each other. What if Ahsoka really did become Obi-Wan's padawan would anything be different? Did they ever meet again after Ahsoka left the order and how did Ahsoka feel about Obi-Wan's position on the council that condemned her, or did that just fade into insignificance in the light of everything else that happened. Did she meet Obi-Wan after discovering who Vader used to be?

Anakin Skywalker/Ahsoka Tano
These two both think the other is brilliant and I'm still a little broken hearted by their confrontation at the end of Rebels Season 2. I'm fine with this being any time from late Clone Wars era to Rebels or Original Trilogy. I like Padmé, so I'd appreciate it if you could respect her character while writing this.

Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze
These two are so great with the sniping at each other and the thinly disguised flirtation, their history and their utter devotion to their respective duties. I'd love to know more about exactly what happened when they first met, or a missing moment from the Clone Wars, or even an alternate universe where Satine lives.

Leia Organa & Anakin Skywalker
Any interaction between these two fascinates me. I always love exploring Vader discovering who Leia is before their encounter on the Death Star. Time travel or visions of the future offer a lot of scope, whether on not they have any idea of their relationship. Vader or Anakin

Rex & Leia Organa
Rebels spoilers Now we know that it really was Rex on Endor I'd love to see any connection between them explored. Had they met before? Does Rex discover that she is Anakin's daughter? How would Leia react to Rex's stories about Anakin?

Depa Billaba & Kanan Jarrus
I really loved the Kanan comic and these two really came to life in it. Anything about them would be great, You could explore their short time together during the Clone Wars, force ghosts, Kanan thinking about her after her death, or an AU where they both escape the Clones - would Caleb be a bit different to the Kanan we know?

Thank you!

I just watched the Star Wars Rebels finale and !!!! I am so glad I managed to stay spoiler free for these episodes, unlike most of them this season.

My reactions in no particular order:

They sent Ezra off with Thrawn into goodness knows where! I guess that's the equivalent of his being in the Unknown Regions in Outbound flight (I haven't read it) and safely gets rid of them both for the duration of the OT.

Hera and Kanan had a baby!! Confirmation, if it was even needed, that they were together like that.

Renewed crying over Kanan, who was my favourite new Rebels character.

Ezra didn't turn to the darkside! Or die!

Sabine and Ahsoka heading off to find Ezra together! I'm guessing the quest to find Ezra might be the next series... And explains their minimal use of a strong character like Thrawn.

I teared up when Gregor died, a fight we chose *sob*

I literally gasped when I discovered that Kallus became an honorary Lasat. It felt very Legolas and Gimli and it made me ship them in that instant although I don't actually care about them as characters.

The Wolfe loth wolf jokes and saying the wolves fought like his wolfpack. Awww.

They actually saved Lothal! And it stayed saved! I was also not remotely expecting that we'd find out what happened to them after RotJ!

Hera was at Endor! And Rex was the one on the moon in Han's team. He met Luke and Leia!!!! I need all the stories about Rex celebrating with the Ewoks. And maybe talking to Luke over the ashes of Vader/Anakin's pyre.

Hondo!

The Emperor in kindly mode! Does he appear like that to everyone? We've only really seen him with his inner circle or force users, right? So I guess it is possible.

I couldn't remember who some of the returning characters were by appearance. And I didn't realise who Ketsu was until someone called her name.

That hung together so much better than I anticipated.

I really liked it especially when Ezra called the Purrgil's and we had space whales completely trashing Thrawn's fleet.

Ahsoka. Ahsoka. Ahsoka!
Mature. No Archive Warnings Apply. Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze. Alternate Universe.)
The Phantom Menace AU. In a universe where Satine never returns to her role as Duchess of Mandalore after being rescued by the Jedi, when Qui-Gon dies on Naboo Satine is there for Obi-Wan.

It breaks my brain that one of the few canon ships for the main characters in The Clone Wars still qualifies as rare! This fic is a strange little AU inspired by a prompt about an alternate universe where Satine wasn't restored to power on Mandalore and had to change her identity. A LOT of backstory didn't make it into the fic, but people seem to have just gone with it, which is awesome. TPM is still my favourite film of the prequel trilogy and I couldn't let go of the idea of writing a young Satine and Obi-Wan.

*

Yuletide

Beginning of a Late Spring (2565 words) by silveronthetree
(The Darwath Series - Barbara Hambly. I'd reread these books earlier in the year and I was so sad about the complete lack of fic. Yuletide totally fixed that.

A fun fact, apparently Barbara Hambly said that Ingold was inspired by Alec Guinness and from the books you can tell it is clearly from his Ben Kenobi from the Original Trilogy. I may be a little predictable in my interests.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

Who was his father?”

Shmi considered the question carefully. She didn't expect Qui-Gon to believe or even understand the truth.
In the days between their first meeting and the beginning of Anakin's training Shmi Skywalker learns to have faith in Qui-Gon Jinn.

I love the way this story developed Qui-Gon and Shmi's deep connection and makes is impossible to think that this didn't happen.

Hold Me Close and Don't Let Go (1504 words) by celeste9
(Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015). Like, for example, hugs. Finn was always able to have a hug when he wanted one.

Finn felt like Luke Skywalker looked like a man desperately in need of a hug. The only problem was that you couldn't just go around asking people who barely knew you existed for hugs, not even in the Resistance.

This whole story is an absolute delight. Full of hugs and Luke and Finn and perfect conversations with Poe and Rey.

Triptych (1763 words) by ambiguously
(Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015). Finn/Luke Skywalker.)
Three things Finn learned about Luke Skywalker

Lovely and very believable fic where Finn meets the real Luke and not the legend built up in his head.

Yuletide

Another World's Insults (2939 words) by jedi_penguin
(The Darwath Series - Barbara Hambly. Not Rated. No Archive Warnings Apply. Ingold Inglorion, Rudy Solis, Gil/Ingold. Canon-Compliant)
After the heartbreaking events at Quo, Ingold is kind of a dick. Rudy notices.
Dialogue taken directly from The Walls of Air.

This story manages to balance sadness and hilarity, from Ingold's grief for Lohiro and for the destruction of his home and people to Rudy's love for and frustration with Ingold. I was not expecting quite how many ways Rudy described Ingold as a penis!

Heat Conservation (5299 words) by jedi_penguin
(The Darwath Series - Barbara Hambly.
Yuletide and Star Wars Rarepair Reveals 2016

Woo! I'm actually revealing my Yuletide fic in January.

I wrote in a fandom I've been wanting to write for years but I've always been to scared I wouldn't be able to do it justice, so I never offered it for Yuletide. In the same fit of madness that led me to sign up for two fic exchanges at the end of last year, I did offer it and I was happy with the way it turned out in the end.

The unending swell of the sea (1500 words) by silveronthetree
(Seaward - Susan Cooper. General Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply. Calliope/Westerly. Future Fic)
Cally starts a new journey seaward.

My recipient gave me a wonderful comment and it's such a tiny fandom that the other comments I received were an enormous surprise. Strangely enough, I think it's the most personal piece of fanfic that I've ever written and I got to fictionalize a few places I've visited as part of Cally's journey.

*

Wander on shooting star (5064 words) by silveronthetree
(Star Wars Original Trilogy. Teen And Up Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply. Biggs Darklighter/Luke Skywalker. Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Hurt/Comfort, Biggs lives, Luke Skywalker's daddy issues, an awful lot of handholding)
There were three truths about Luke Skywalker: he lived to fly, he'd always try to help people and he idolized his father. His best friend wasn't much different.

Biggs and Luke get a chance to share their stories and secrets. A Biggs!lives story.

I try to write about Luke Skywalker falling in love with his childhood best friend and somehow it ends up being all about Anakin Skywalker! I don't even know. A year ago I couldn't imagine Darth Vader growing on me that much but I think the blame (credit?) for particular direction was spending most of the year watching Clone Wars, the Darth Vader comic, and musesfool!

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

It features our favourite girl pilots and some all new adventures featuring cross-dressing disguises, Frecks's probably heaving bosom, some amusing aliases and ends with a terribly, terribly English declaration of love all in the unique style of W.E. I squeed and giggled all the way through.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

His first impression was that the kid was just as earnest as he’d seemed from afar, which was—impressive. His second was the kid was all but blinding in the Force, kind in a way Finn still wasn’t used to, and caring, and every bit as Force-sensitive as Finn. No, more so. Almost as powerfully sensitive as Luke if Finn didn’t know any better. His third? The rather inconvenient fact that he was cute.

Put that thought away, Finn. You don’t have time for this.
Finn travels back in time to Tatooine and discovers what Luke was like before his life was changed irrevocably in A New Hope, and is a bit of a lovesong to how much light and goodness there is in Luke Skywalker.
Yuletide Letter 2016

Dear Yuletide writer

Thank you so much for writing for me, I'm very excited to read whatever you write. Please feel free to just write about one, or any subset of the characters that I request. I will read practically any type of fic so please write something that inspires and entertains you regardless of my requests. If you are anything like me you may like a little guidance so here you go.

Things I like
I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character based stories and also crossovers. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters), epistolary fic and mysteries. I love stories about 'how they got together' and friends turning into lovers and fake dating but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I love stories with a strong sense of place, canon pairings and obscure canon details. I'm also happy to read seasonal stories if it fits with the source.

I'd prefer not to read anything involving non-canon major injuries or character death.

Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome: Nancy Blackett, Susan Walker

Susan and Nancy are both the oldest girl in their family but you couldn't find two people who are more different. I'd love anything you write about either of them but here are some things you could explore. Did Susan's school friends think of her as wildly adventurous or was she the sensible, grown up one everywhere? What was growing up like for Nancy and why did she become so protective of her mother? Did they spend time together that wasn't recorded in the books? What were their experiences of learning to sail like? Did they stay in touch as they grew up and how different were their later lives?

Biggles Series - W. E. Johns: James 'Biggles' Bigglesworth, Mark Way

Mark Way made a huge impression on me as the "experienced" observer to Biggles' newbie pilot in Biggles Learns to Fly and I was so sad that he never appeared again after he was shot down and injured. Biggles and Mark were such close friends and I'd love any story about Biggles and Mark meeting later on. Did Biggles go and visit Mark when he was in hospital? Did they write to each other? Did Biggles and Mark meet in New Zealand later on or did Mark stay in Europe after his injuries? Did Biggles ever mention Mark to his other friends? I'd be happy with friendship fic or slash if you are so inclined.

Worrals Series - W. E. Johns: Betty 'Frecks' Lovell, Joan 'Worrals' Worralson

Worrals and Frecks are the greatest and I was ridiculously excited to see these two "girl pilots" nominated. I'd love anything that features them but as I never managed to get hold of the later books in the series, if possible I'd prefer something that is set during or references their experiences during the Second World War. Did they ever realise that they were meant for each other? Or tell me about another thrilling adventure or a missing moment from the books. You could also explore what they did next because whatever it was I'm firmly convinced that they'd be doing it together.

Livii wrote about these books here and that pretty much covers everything I'd want to say about them.

Susan Cooper - Seaward: Calliope, Westerly, Rhiannon

I loved this book unreservedly for its dreamlike magic as a child, and every time I've reread it I've understood more and more of the story. I would adore anything you choose to write about Cally, Westerly or Rhiannon of the Roane. Maybe you could write Cally and Westerly about the difficulties of adjusting to their return home, or the events of their destined meeting or how they managed to find each other in the real world. I'd love to know more of Rhiannon's story and how her life changed when the Stonecutter forced her away from the Roane and how she became the perky, smiling bird-like woman Cally met and what was hiding beneath that.

19th Century Palaeontology RPF: Charles Lyell, William Buckland, Mary Morland Buckland

I may be the only person who wants stories about these three but I'm completely fascinated by them. I'd enjoy any story that features them, whether it is serious or silly (and there is a lot of opportunity for silly given Buckland's reported eccentricities). They made many important palaeontological discoveries and had many theories that with hindsight were downright wrong. Tell me about them - how about Buckland and Mary's meet cute over a book on palaeontology, Lyell's first experience as a student of one of Buckland's chaotic and inspiring lectures, anything about Mary or Lyell dealing with Buckland's dashing past the good outcrops on field trips, eating his way through the animal kingdom or fights involving licking fossils. I could imagine Lyell being the straight man in this case but he got up to all the required number of schoolboy shenanigans that probably didn't disappear totally when he went up to Oxford. Mary was an accomplished palaeontologist in her own right and an excellent writer so how did she deal with just being thought of as Mrs Buckland?

Links if you are intrigued by this and want to know more.
Wikipedia articles for Mary Buckland, William Buckland and Charles Lyell

Eccentric Eating - On The Very Revd.
Dear swrarepairs Author

I'm very much looking forward to whatever you create for me and I hope you have fun creating it.

Likes:I like stories featuring either short-term or serious relationships, outsider points of view, epistolary fic and mysteries, stories about 'how they got together,' friends turning into lovers and fake dating but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I love stories with a strong sense of place, obscure canon details, missing moments, fix-it fics, canon AUs, and time travel AUs (probably necessary for some of these pairings).

Do not wants: Non-canonical character death or major injury, underage (under 16 years old) relationships.

Ahsoka Tano/Anakin Skywalker
These two both think the other is brilliant and I'm still a little broken hearted by their confrontation at the end of Rebels Season 2. I'm fine with this being any time from late Clone Wars era to Rebels or Original Trilogy. I like Padmé, so I'd appreciate it if you could respect her character while writing this.

Ahsoka Tano/Aphra
Well, I guess this one could be all about Vader/Anakin but I'd love to see what Ahsoka and Aphra make of each other.

Ahsoka Tano/Obi-Wan Kenobi
These two have been through a lot together. Do they still trust each other? What would happen if they met again after the Clone Wars?

Aphra/Darth Vader
I love their dynamic and I'd love to know exactly why Vader puts up with Aphra and exactly how far Aphra's fascination with Vader goes.

Aphra/Luke Skywalker
I imagine that Aphra will be thinking "I know something you don't know" when she meets Luke and this would make a very interesting encounter.

Biggs Darklighter/Luke Skywalker
Childhood best friends. Flying together. I'm so sad that their interaction was mainly left to the deleted scenes so any expansion would be delightful,

Evaan Verlaine/Leia Organa
I loved their change from an antagonistic to friendly relationship and I like the fact that Evaan has no problem standing up to Leia. Having all that plus makeouts would be great.

Finn/Luke Skywalker
They are both absolute sweethearts with a core of amazing inner strength and I'd love you to explore how this would work.

Harter Kalonia/Luke Skywalker
Um this was my random pairing because I like both their faces and I think it would be great if they kissed. Lukehas a tendency to get bashed up pretty often so I'd imagine there were lots of opportunities for him to meet Doctor Kalonia, either before or after TFA.

Luke Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi
My interest in this pairing is basically because I like seeing characters I adore together and they didn't have enough time together. I want to see how you'd get them together whether it is dating a Force ghost, time travel, Jedi lessons etc.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

I haven't missed Yuletide nominations! ...yet

I've been doing some Yuletide brainstorming and after missing the nomonations for the last two years I'm really, really looking forward to nominating the things I've been thinking about for the last few years

I can only nominate three of these and it is soooooo hard to choose.

Fandom 1: Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome
Characters: Susan Walker, Peggy Blackett, Nancy Blackett, Titty Walker
AO3 Category: Books & Literature
I'm pretty sure someone else will nominate this

Fandom 2: 19th Century Geology/Palaeontology RPF
Characters: Charles Lyell, Mary Morland Buckland, William Buckland, ????
AO3 Category: Celebrities & Real People
I want all the ridiculous field trip, eating strange things and fossil hunting shenanigans for them. I haven't decided on the fourth person to nominate yet so if anyone is interested in this semi-obscure fandom and has a favourite palaeontologist to include I'm happy to nominate them.

Fandom 3: Biggles Series - W.E. Johns
Characters: James Bigglesworth, Algy Lacey, Mark Way, ????
AO3 Category: Books & Literature
Not sure about the fourth character for this. I could go with Marie Janis or Erich von Stalheim or even Ginger Hebblethwaite.

Fandom 4: New Amsterdam
Characters: John Amsterdam, Omar York, Eva Marquez, Lily Rae Brown
AO3 Category: TV Shows
This TV show was a little bit terrible and barely lasted a season which makes it ridiculously ripe for some kind of fix-it fic.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

I read a wonderful Check Please! fic last night and realised that I'd never got around to posting my Yuletide reveal anywhere. Then I went looking for last years post to use as a template (because I like things to be neat), and discovered that I hadn't posted that either. Oops!

Yuletide 2015
Fake it 'til you make it (4376 words) by silveronthetree
(Check Please! Fake/Pretend Relationship)
Five times people thought that Shitty and Lardo were "dating" and one time they really were.
or
The one where they accidentally start to fake date.

Shitty and Lardo are the best and I'm itching to find out what happens next for them. This was my take on it. I was delighted when I first saw the prompt because fake dating is my favourite trope but then I ran into trouble with plot ideas because I was absolutely convinced that Shitty and Lardo were both far too straightforward to pretend to date, whatever the situation. I worked it out in the end but I think I spent most of November discarding every single idea I had for them.

Yuletide 2014
Tea for Three (3760 words) by silveronthetree
(Batgirl (Comics), DCU - Comicverse. She's about to find out if that's true.
In which Cass introduces Steph to the wonder of tea and they take a road trip.

One of my friends described the common thread of my fics being everyone talking a lot and consuming food. This one involved drinking tea but I think the description is pretty apt and I got to write a Cass-centric fic for the first time which was rad!

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

I hope everyone has been having a lovely holiday.

I received a lovely story for Yuletide this year for one* of the fandoms I am revisiting this year due to a tv show.

His Future Is Her Past (1013 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Outlander (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Claire Beauchamp/Jamie Fraser
Characters: Jamie Fraser, Claire Beauchamp, Frank Randall

Jamie Fraser travels to the future and sets eyes on his love in a time before she knew him.

This story deals with Jamie's unexplained appearance at Claire's window in the 1940s before she travels back in time. It felt like a lovesong to Claire through Jamie's eyes and you get to see exactly what an amazing woman she is.

*The other one is (to my great surprise) George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm not sure what I think of the TV show as I'm only up to season 2 but I was grabbed by the Brienne/Jaime feels in the books and fanfic.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

Yuletide Letter 2015

Dear Yuletide writer

Thank you for writing for me and I know I am going to love whatever you write. I've included some (very optional) prompts if you like that sort of thing, but any story you wish to write about these characters would be marvellous.

I'd prefer not to read anything involving non-canon major injuries, character death or incest.

Anne of Green Gables - L. M. Montgomery: Shirley Blythe, Bertha Marilla "Rilla" Blythe

The book Rilla of Ingleside breaks my heart and makes me fall in love with the Blythe family every time I read it. I'd love anything about Rilla or Shirley – maybe about the start of Rilla's marriage, or about the first time Shirley got in a plane, or adjusting to life without Walter. You could tell me what they did after the Great War or about any letters they exchanged with each other or the rest of the family.

Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome: Nancy Blackett, Susan Walker

Susan and Nancy are both the oldest girl in their family but you couldn't find two different girls.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015): Gaby Teller, Illya Kuryakin

I came out of the movie fascinated by the tension in the relationship between Gaby and Illya and I'd really like to read more about the way it develops when they start working together. It doesn't have to be shippy, but it would be fun if it is (and I wouldn't object to a little Solo thrown into the mix if that's your thing).

Outlander (TV): Claire Beauchamp, Jamie Fraser

I'd enjoy any story about these two but here are some suggestions. Tell me about Claire's life before the book starts, growing up on digs all over the world or her war service. Write me a possible explanation for Jamie's ghost from the first episode. Tell me about Jamie adjusting to Clare's twentieth century eccentricities. Although I've read the Outlander books, I'm fascinated by possibilities created by the show's alternate universe. So if you're familiar with book canon feel free to use or discard things as you wish.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

I've had a bit of an odd Christmas as my Dad was admitted for an emergency heart bypass just before Christmas. We've had a very worrying time. He had the operation yesterday, as they don't operate over Christmas, and is currently doing well. We're hoping that there will be no complications and that he will recover well.

* * *

I received two lovely stories for Yuletide this year.

Why Miss Marple Prefers Knitting to Embroidery (3912 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Miss Marple - Agatha Christie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Jane Marple
Summary:
A character study about how young Jane's failure to solve her first murder mystery helped her develop into the elderly Miss Marple we all know and love.

This is An utterly delightful story with such a plausible mystery for young Jane Marple's first case. The characterisation was spot on and it was good to see what influenced the development of the character of the Miss Marple we know and love and the cameos and references to the stories were perfect.

Just a day like any other (1355 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gotham Central
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Canon Relationship(s)
Characters: Josie MacDonald, Renee Montoya, Marcus Driver, Crispus Allen
Additional Tags: Christmas, Gotham City Police Department, Slice of Life, POV Female Character, Yuletide 2014, Gen Work
Summary:
It's Christmas, but that doesn't mean much if you're police in Gotham. Just a day like any other for the major crimes unit, right?

It's always wonderful to see Gotham Central fic and I was so happy that this prompt was filled. This is a great little slice of life from the point of view of one of my favourite characters, Josie Mac and of course Christmas in Gotham wouldn't be complete without Harley and Ivy getting up to their usual tricks.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

Dear Yuletide Writer

You are amazing for writing for me and I hope you have fun doing it. My requests are below and you may find the optional details helpful to use as inspiration. I will however be delighted by any story about any one of these characters!

Things I like

I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character based stories and also crossovers. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters) and epistolary fic. I love stories about 'how they got together' and friends turning into lovers, but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I love female characters as you can see from my nominations. I love stories with a strong sense of place. I like canon pairings and obscure canon details. I also like to read seasonal stories if it fits in with the source.

Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome - Nancy Blackett, Susan Walker

Susan and Nancy are both the oldest girl in their family but you couldn't find two different girls.

Miss Marple - Agatha Christie - Jane Marple

There is nothing that is quite so comforting as sitting down to read a Miss Marple story and it would be wonderful to read a new one. How did Miss Marple grow to be the woman we know from the books? Were there any crimes she solved that Agatha Christie didn't write about? Did she have any failures before she really started observing people? Did she ever solve mysteries when she was a young woman? Tell me more.

Chalet School - Elinor M. Brent-Dyer - Peggy Bettany, Bride Bettany

The books that focused on the Bettany sisters were some of my favourites and it would be wonderful to spend more time with them, especially when they were older. You could explore the school days that we never heard about, what they did in the summer before Peggy of the Chalet School, what their lives were like after school, what it was like being away from their parents and Peggy's twin, whether Bride ever lost her temper badly with her sister or whether Peggy was always as perfect as she appeared?

Dark Is Rising Sequence - Susan Cooper - Jane Drew, Mary Stanton

As you may guess from my username, I love this series to bits (literally, my copy is falling apart) and I reread it annually. I'd like to know more about the girls from the Dark is Rising Sequence. It could be their point of view on events in the books or a story of what happened to them afterwards. What would happen if Mary met Bran and the Drews, possibly on another holiday in Wales? Did Mary ever remember her journey with the Black Rider or did she ever have an encounter with an Old One like Stephen? Does Jane ever remember and would that change her relationship with Bran and Will?

Gotham Central - Crispus Allen, Josephine MacDonald, Marcus Driver, Renee Montoya

The all-too-short run of Gotham Central is one of my favourite comics and I loved the contrast between the real life perspective of the GCPD with the larger than life superheroes and villains inhabiting Gotham. Any story about the GCPD would be fantastic but I'd prefer a story set before or during the course of the series before life changed significantly for several of the characters. Maybe you could write a case fic, missing moments from the comics, encounters with crimes or characters related to the wider DC world, an interaction over the office coffee pot or a conversation between partners on the way to a case.

I just want to reiterate that I'll love absolutely anything involving those characters, so feel free to ignore my prompts and go for the story that inspires you. Thank you so, so much for writing for me.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

Biggles/Algy Lacey, Mahoney, Major Mullen, Henry "The Professor" Watkins, "Mac" Maclaren.)
During the events of the short story 'The Great Arena' from Biggles of the Camel Squadron, the members of 266 Squadron spend an evening trying to trick German intelligence into thinking they are "as green as grass and over in France for the first time" before acting as bait to even the odds and put a stop the slaughter of new pilots by the Von Doering circus. In the original story the events of that evening were barely touched upon, so here is what might have happened.

I'd been itching to write a Biggles fic for years and I finally had the excuse to write one and the motivation to finish it. I love this kind of AU that keeps the characterisation and places them in a really well realised universe.
Dear Yuletide writer

You are brilliant for agreeing to write for me and I hope you have fun doing it. My requests are below and you may find the optional details helpful to use as inspiration. I am excited about fic for any one of these sources or characters!

Things I like

I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character based stories and also crossovers and alternate universes. I also like to read seasonal stories if it fits in with the source.

1. Green Knowe series - L. M. Boston: Toseland "Tolly" Oldknow

I love the atmosphere of these books and the way that the history is tied so vividly to the house and the people who live in it. Any sort of story Tolly would be wonderful but here are a few ideas that you could go with - What happens to Tolly after the books? Are there any other children that he meets from the past or from the future? What happened during the holidays that we didn't see? Is there a missing moment from the books that you'd like to explore?

2. Manhunter (comics): Kate Spencer

Kate Spencer is awesome! There needs to be more fic about her. When I first read Manhunter, I'd never come across a superhero like Kate before. She was a flawed and fascinating mature woman with an established career as federal prosecutor, who chose to fight crime in the most extreme way. I knew I was going to like her the moment she couldn't find a lighter and was desperate enough to light her cigarette at the stove burner. Any story about Kate would be great. Maybe a team up with someone like the Birds of Prey or Blue Beetle, developing a better relationship with her son, Ramsay, working on a case, a missing moment from the comics, going on a date, or even her post-series adventures as the Gotham D.A.

3. Batgirl (comic: Stephanie Brown, Nell Little, Nick Gage

Stephanie Brown's run as Batgirl is the comic of my heart and it would be delightful to spend more time with the characters. I love Steph's determination and optimism and the fact that she will never back down. Steph's relationship with her supporting cast is one of the strongest parts of the comic, e.g. Nick, Cass, Barbara, Damian, her mother, Nell and Kara, so a story featuring any of these would be great. I did have two ideas in mind when I came up with the request but feel free to totally ignore them.

Steph's relationship with Detective Nick Gage. I wouldn't mind some Steph/Nick – how would it even work? Or maybe what happens when the detective in Nick starts wondering about the identity of the overly familiar girl in Barbara's office?

What happens after the end of the series? Tell me about Nell and her adventures as she goes from being Batgirl's number one fan to being Batgirl herself and working with Steph as Nightwing. Does she work out Steph's secret identity by herself? Does she intend to be Batgirl or does she end up in a situation where she has to emulate her heroine?

4. New Amsterdam: Eva Marquez, John Amsterdam

I watched this show earlier in the year and all the loose ends left by the cancellation made me desperate for fic. Does John ever find his one true love and regain mortality, or was that just constructed to give him hope? What happens next? I loved the chemistry between John and Eva, so if you'd like to explore that as a working partnership, friendship or even a relationship, I'd be happy. You could write a casefile, oa story set in the the next episode, a flashback into Eva or John's past or an alternate series finale as if there were several more seasons.

5. The Proposal: Andrew Paxton, Margaret Tate

I have a massive soft spot for this movie and it is guaranteed to make me laugh. I'd love anything about these two. You could tell me about what happened next after the movie. I bet their sex life is hilarious and sexy and I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more about that. What was it like for Andrew working for Margaret and did ever he have any secret feelings or attraction before the events of the movie? Write an au where they have different jobs, or where Andrew is the one with visa problems.

I just want to reiterate that I'll love absolutely anything involving those characters, so feel free to ignore my prompts and go for something that inspires you. Thank you so, so much for writing for me.

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.

My housemate went to Prague at the weekend and decided to bring me back this quite frankly AMAZING Chicago Blackhawks themed present.

I wasn't sure whether to be delighted or horrified so I had to share.

I kept unpacking because I was really hoping that there would be a Tazer one. And there was! Then I realised that they'd included the most popular players.

The identical faces are terrifying. I was particularly disappointed to find that they hadn't given Kaner his blond mullet! (I think the things on their heads must be helmets but it was hard to tell.)

Sharpy inside Kaner...

comments at this entry at Dreamwidth.
