Mim's been sneezing a lot for about two days now. Today she sneezed a Dexter-style blood spatter across some papers. That was the kick in the pants to get her into the vet.

It was all good news. She likely just burst a capillary or somesuch from sneezing-- since she's not congested or oozy, it'll likely run its course, but if it worsens, she'll go on antibiotics. She's negative for rabies and feline leukemia. We got all her first shots and our awesome vet comped us the deworming treatment for being good samaritans.

Kitties are all flea-negative, apartment is still under a vacuum routine just in case. Mim is getting cuddlier by the day. And vocal. She will LET YOU KNOW if you are late feeding her, man.

So-- stressed out this afternoon, but now everything is ok.

Mim is settling in well and I am doing my best not to get attached to her. I know we have to adopt her out, but she makes it hard when she likes snuggling up so much. She made herself quite at home, and Nox loves her to bits, and she's so gentle we clipped her nails last night easier than we've ever done one of our own. She's such a little lovebug-- she now even greets us on the bed with head nudges when we let the cats in in the morning.

Nox is recovering from his surgery with no problem. He's as playful and vocal as ever. Olive is NOT liking that we got her and Nox collars for their tags yesterday. She was totally frenetic the first hour, batting at the jingly thing that was attached to her. With a PISSY look on her face to boot. And then she settled down. On my head. I had fallen asleep in the papasan watching some godawful Nic Cage flick-- ps, somebody has got to talk to him about those awful hair plugs-- and she decided to guard me. Closely.

Today's agenda: package up the last couple of orders for mailing. Watch True Blood. Work on BOS. Do some sort of skin treatment on myself because the imminent arrival of Aunt Flo means yecchiness and my face is all tender. Meh!

Nox is home from surgery and didn't like his evening of quiet quarantine one bit. We let him out this morning and it's been all playplayplayplayplayplay-- specifically with Mim, with whom he bonded pretty much immediately. So no problems-- she plays well with other kitties. Olive is being a total bitch to both Nox AND Mim and is pretty much just following them around hissing crankily.

Mim is a delight. She fell asleep in my arms twice yesterday and seems just grateful to have food, toys, and a warm place to sleep. And, as a bonus, she watched Labyrinth raptly last night and is full of fun kitty energy. It really is a shame we can't keep her-- if we had a larger living space, it would be different, but three really is too large for this apartment.

No bites on any of the signs we put up for her. No "lost cat" signs in any of the nearby neighborhoods. No lost pet calls to any place we left messages. If this keeps up, we're going to try to find her a new home next weekend. Hopefully somebody we know so we can get updates! She knows how to use the litter and the scratching post. The only downside is that since she had no ID, we don't know which shots she'd had before she was let out. Luckily ours are fully immunized. She is suuuuuch a sweetheart-- she's going to make some family very very happy. So if you know somebody who could use some good kitty snorgles, make sure to mention Miss Mim!

Okay-- off to the PO I go. I packed up over half of this week's orders. The other half will go out on Monday, so I should be 100% caught up on mail by then!

And then to stretch out for the hafla-- I hope the rain holds off!

I was sitting in the office when I heard piteous crying. I ran to the living room to check on Olive (as Nox is still at the vet's), but Olive was sitting there perplexed.

There was a five month old (I think) kitten at the back door, crying her little heart out. I opened the door and she ran right in from the rain. I have her in the office right now (good thing we still have two litters, bowls, etc).

She's got white paws and is gray with black spots. She is SUPER friendly. A total face molester. Obviously someone's pet.

I called the leasing office, and no one has reported a missing pet. I called the MD rescue and MDSPCA to report a found kitty. We're going to house her for about a week to see what turns up. Also take her to Dr. Zumpano to see if she's chipped-- she has no ID on her except a flea collar.

After that? I guess we try to find her a home, and if that doesn't work out, we take her to BARCS.

Poor little baby. At least she knew where to come.

ETA: Until we find her owners/new home, I'll be calling her Mim. Miss Mim, very fitting.
