Random notes on my weekend:
I judged a battle of the bands here on campus Friday. Let's see, there was the band trying to be Sublime, the band trying to be DMB, and then the high school kids trying to be Linkin Park...
Surprisingly, the Linkin-wannabes were better than most. They blended really well, their bass player had incredible delivery, and the singer had a really powerful voice when it wasn't drowned out by the drumming.
The DMB-wannabes were at the bottom. They weren't horrible, but their songs had such striking similarities to actual DMB songs that it bordered on plagiarism. I actually started singing along to a few of them because they were so similar. They had a lead singer who imitated Dave's disjointed singing, a saxophonist who could apparently only play in the pentatonic, and everything was in the same key... it was just limited. My final comments: You are DMB Lite. You have potential, but for the love of god, find your own sound. Give me Boyd Tinsely anyday.
Kill Patrick was pretty good, although this was their last show for a while because their drummer, Adam, is also the drummer for Honey Dewpont, and I would place money one them doing very well. Me? I was busy staring at Adam's arms. The boy is incredible. Jaw-dropping musician, genuinely nice, and with a shy smile that could make a girl woozy. See! Look! I was attracted to a guy for once! But enough about that...
Went home yesterday and helped with the shop. Saw Marianne with the kids, and I didn't treat her any differently, as I had told my father that I wouldn't. It was a little strange though. As much as I disagree with the way she's going about getting the divorce (even though I understand her and support her in getting one), I still miss the person she used to be. And it bothers me that the kids miss the person their mommy was, too.
I forgot to call my grandfather. I really should do that.
And I'm back on campus. Sang at Convocation, and it was a marvelous waste of my time. Now I'm wating for the dining hall to reopen in an hour because I realize that I have not had a meal since Friday afternoon- bit snacks have been keeping me alive. Yesterday, I had half a milkshake, a bite of a hamburger, maybe five french fries, and a bag of chips. It's hitting me now that I'm famished.
And... for me... a to do list.
Monday: 12:45 rehearsal. Get music to Patty.
Tuesday: 10:20 Am Lit paper due. 4:30 MOTWW project rehersal w/ music. 7:00 Recital.
Wednesday: 12:30 lesson w/Kyle. 1:20 Enlightenment paper due, 1/2 hr presentation (call Mark!)
Thursday: 1:20 Presentation for Margie.
Other: Listening assignment, Jury, 2 concert reviews, French Translation.
But fear not. There will be girlsmut,
lm, and it will be a reward to myself when I write it.
