FaerieCon and other things
First of all-- FaerieCon is being held in Baltimore (well, Hunt Valley) this year. Right after Faire ends. ALL Y'ALL GOTTA COME TO ME. Overall, I will really, really miss the Trocadero as the setting for the masquerade balls, but for actual Con purposes, the Hunt Valley Marriott is much better than the Philly convention center. The dealer's room can be separate from the discussion panels and the music, so it won't be one big concrete-echoey mush. Also, the lighting is much better. (I also suggested last year that they poke Romka and/or Asharah to perform at the Bad Faeries Ball, as I thought they'd be more appropriate than the dancers they'd previously chosen. I don't know if they listened, but a girl can hope.) Downside: the Whole Foods/food places that are not owned by Marriott are about a 10 - 15 min walk, so unless vendors have a car, be sure to block out some time. If you're vending and need an errand runner, I'll be there for at least a day; I'd be happy to either do your running or booth sit for you. And J and I will likely have an apartment by then, so if y'all need overnight living room crash space or something... anyhow, YAY.
Though all the 'waaah, Baltimore is so unsafe' whining over at
faeriecon is harshing my squee. Hunt Valley is not The Wire, you weak-kneed ninnies.
Second of all, as I am finished up and just waiting for Jason...
Relationship Meme Thing
What are your middle names?
Lauren and Douglas.
How long have you been together?
Inching towards a year.
How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We were friends for almost two years prior.
Who asked whom out?
I asked him out on a 'friend date' which became a standing thing. But as for the romantic date thing... I don't know, it sort of happened organically. I had a lot of margarita and confessed my thing for him. He waited until I sobered up and confessed that he had a thing back. And that was that.
How old are each of you?
25 and 28.
Whose siblings do you see the most?
We see them equally, I guess. His sister is really cool.
Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Erm. I don't know that we have a hard 'situation.' I am guessing things will get financially tight when we get the apartment. But thus far we've been pretty issue-free.
Did you go to the same school?
No. But he did go to high school with several other people I've been involved with.
Are you from the same home town?
45 minutes apart.
Who is smarter?
He's smarter in a techie sort of way, and I'm smarter in a linguistic sort of way. It balances.
Who is the most sensitive?
Me, probably. But I think we both do a good job of being sensitive to the other person, so it's really rarely an issue.
Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Any place they serve good sushi. We don't eat out a ton as it can be harder for him to count carbs when we do.
Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Probably just Ocean City, though in two weeks, we're driving out to New Mexico together!
Who has the craziest exes?
Neither of us. Well, if we're gonna get technical, I guess you gotta say me for that one blindingly obvious exception.
Who has the worst temper?
Me. I'll go off on a tiff quickly and get over it just as soon. It's really hard to rile J up, and I think he's lost his temper maybe twice since I've known him, and both times it was completely justified.
Who does the cooking?
We share it pretty equally, but he is the better cook of the two of us. He made goulash the other day that was to die for.
Who is the neat-freak?
Neither of us, an this is something we have resolved to change once we have a place.
Who is more stubborn?
I think probably me.
Who hogs the bed?
We take turns, but whoever is sleeping closest to the wall inevitably gets pinned to it.
Who wakes up earlier?
Him during the week, me on the weekends.
Where was your first date?
Uh, we didn't really do that. We first kissed after a night of margaritas at Don Pablos. We first held hands and ahem after a night at a hookah bar and dancing. But our first official "we should go out" date was at Olive and Sesame for some sushi.
Who is more jealous?
I think we're both pretty remarkably not jealous. He trusts me to respect our relationship, and I return the favor.
How long did it take to get serious?
In retrospect, we were serious pretty much from the get-go, but it took about a month to actually say so. We had the conversation about a month in when my kidneys sent me to Patient First and he showed me how to change his insulin set. It was sort of "you're going to be around awhile, so you need to know how to do this." I think when you're talking life-or-death health stuff, that's pretty serious.
Who eats more?
The boy is a black hole for food. And is still skinny minny. I DON'T GET IT.
Who does the laundry?
We each do our own laundry, though sometimes we'll wash a load of the other's.
Who’s better with the computer?
Him, since he works on one for a living.
Who drives when you are together?
Him. But that is soon to change!
