The view from where I sit.
Cold: getting better. Still a ton of pressure behind my eyes, but better.
Betta woes: girlfishie has finally started exhibiting symptoms other than lethargy. I won't gross you out with the symptoms she does have, but she'll be on tetracycline tomorrow. Hopefully it's not too late-- I didn't want to use a medication when I didn't know what the problem was or I could have accidentally killed her. She's been otherwise kept warm and isolated to keep her stress level down, and that's been a little improvement. She's floating about rather than laying at the bottom.
Mice: Sadly, we have switched to kill traps. We used two different types of no-kill traps for over a month (both the wire ones and the plastic ones with the bait inside) and caught NADA. J caught one by basically stalking it. I caught one in a trashcan. But other than that... there have been many, many sleep-deprived nights at my casa. I am tired of listening to the sounds of rustle and squeak from 3:00am - 5:30am every morning. I am tired of diligently vacuuming up the droppings they leave on my carpet (and on my bookshelf... though they had the good sense to shit on Twilight). I am totally going into germ-phobe mode and it is just not worth the stress any more. We've used the quick-kill snap traps for 24 hours and caught four using the same exact bait as the no-kill traps. So I give up. The mousies have spoken. I'm really sad about it, though-- from what I've seen, the suffering is very, very brief, with death occurring in under two seconds. If they'd have just stuck to the attic/ceiling or taken the non-lethal bait, it would have been okay. But enough is enough. I can't have a ton of mice spawning and spawning and making my life exponentially worse every six weeks, which I've already seen to be the case. Requiescat in pace, little dudes. May there be lots of peanut butter for you on the other side.
True Blood: So, I started watching this out of sheer boredom. Wow, it's possibly one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Actually, if they could just make the show be about the supporting characters, Tara and Lafayette, I'd probably watch it. The whole vampire thing (which is, y'know, the entire basis of the show) has just been so over the top that mostly I just giggle. Jason has started doing a "vampire impression" based on the bald one with the head tattoos, and it's just too creepy for words.
Computer: having troubles with the hard disk; it keeps shutting itself off with no warning. It is very annoying, but I can't afford to have it fixed right now. The lappy's almost 3 years old now; far past warranty.
