Caught one!
So, I now have a total of three mousetraps in the room. The mice are NOT taking the peanut buttery, chocolatey, cheesy bait.
They are, however, being extraordinarily loud at night. Scritch scritch scritch crumple crumple.
This morning, armed with a giant trash bag, I went through my closet and got rid of anything paper or plastic. I checked under my bureau and got rid of the same.
At about that time, I started hearing all hell breaking loose from the direction of my closet. One had gotten himself stuck in my trash can and could not get out. Outside he went. He was really small, and looked more like a field mouse than a house mouse to me.
There's still a second one about; much quieter, but I can hear him from time to time. I'm going to get some mint leaves to scatter in dark corners; hopefully that'll keep the little bugger at bay.
