Vacation recap + various and sundry things.

I'm gonna do this fast and dirty, as I totally do not have spare time right now.

Vacation Report-- Ocean City, MD

Thursday: We got a late start after work because we had a ton of little things to do-- we forgot stuff at my place, we had to stop at Target for beach towels and a cooler to keep J's insulin cold, etc. and so on and so forth. We finally got on the road, and I popped in my "Rogues and Pirates" mix of Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, Flogging Molly, and fun songs like "The Worst Pirate in the World," and "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate." We were off! The Bay Bridge was gorgeous, we ate greasy road food, and I slept for the last half hour. We got to the beach at about 10:30, played some Rock Band with my family, and then went for a walk on the beach under the last sliver of the third-quarter moon. The ocean was crashing noisily, and we cuddled up on the cool sand for a bit before heading back to the condo for bed. And we managed to sleep, some two hours later.

Friday: First stop after a shower: breakfast at Bayside Skillet, where we had a ridiculous breakfast. Omelette with strawberries and cream cheese, which sounds gross but was actually awesome. Potatoes Ariel, covered in crab lump, shrimp, and scallops. Fresh-pressed orange juice. Side of bacon. Two very pleased vacationers. After that, it was to the beach, where I fell asleep and got burned on my nose and back. The water was COOOOOLD, but J and I got in twice, wading out in the unusually green water. We played with my cousins' four kidlets (aged 1 yr - 4 yrs), who taught us to make "drip castles" before heading back to a shower and pre-dinner nap. And then there were crabs. Maryland Blue Crabs, covered in Old Bay. I had many. Deeeelicious. J's blood sugar was a bit high after that, so we chilled at the condo for a bit before heading out to the boardwalk for ice cream and people watching. Mmmm, Dumsers Dairyland.

Saturday: My fam was checked out of their condo by 9am, and that was an early morning. J and I headed back to Bayside Skillet for breakfast. We had the Crepes Catherine with cream chantilly, strawberries, raspberries, and peaches. Good, but the omelette was better. I then had two of the Wake Up Calls-- fresh pressed orange juice, grapefruit juice, and coconut rum. YUUUUM. We had some time to kill before checking into our hotel, so we went shopping, 'cause J needed new clothes. Like, $400 worth at K Coast. There was much shopping-buddy-ing going on; some days I swear I should be a personal shopper. After that, we walked the boardwalk entire... about 40 blocks total from our hotel to the inlet. We stopped for rations-- mm, boardwalk pizza. We did goofy Old Time Photos.

The hotel room upon check-in was... well, it was called the Venus Suite. It did not disappoint. Top floor corner room, ocean front with bay view and a complete wrap-around balcony. Fancy slanted architecture. Full kitchen including stove and dishwasher. Jacuzzi tub. King bed. We were both kind of slack-jawed. About two hours later (ahem) we got ourselves showered and all polished up for a dinner at Phillips By The Sea, the fancy schmancy $$$ one right on the beach. My treat, as sales had been good the week before. The crab bisque was out of this world. I had my first lobster tail, and J the crab lump sautee. Yummmm. Then it was off to the boardwalk where we tested the rollercoaster, which was fun, but dear god my head. I don't know if I'm getting old or carnival rides are just too jerky for me now. There was also Giant Ferris Wheel-ing, which was snuggly and coupletastic. Then it was back to the room for some balcony cuddling over the shore and then I was out like a light.

Sunday: Waking up in a big cream-colored bed with your boyfriend while sunlight and ocean breezes stream through the windows? Recommended. We had about two hours until checkout and used the time wisely. From then, it was off to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant, do more window shopping, take goofy photobooth pictures, eat Thrashers french fries, buy Dolle's taffy and fudge, and spend a final few hours on the beach. Water: still cold. Waves: high. I got knocked flat twice. J resorted to picking me up and pushing me over the waves. It started to rain around 5pm and we got outta Dodge. The Bay bridge was a gorgeous placid blue at sunset. We got home, unloaded the car, and had a late dinner of burrito and smoked cheese while watching Shark Week. Then J broke out the Black Phoenix massage oil and literally put me to sleep with the most amazing foot and backside rub. My boyfriend is the best.

Since I've been back, it's been work work work. All Etsy orders are sent out, and I'm working on my three remaining commissions before starting up on next month's update. I'm trying to do more earrings than necklaces, but damn if I don't keep finding the cutest necklace bits. I'm currently stalking one of my favorite beadsellers to get all 12 items on my list for layering necklaces, but her items sell out inside of seconds. Refresh, refresh, refresh.

Free time is at a minimum. I am trying to make time for friends, but it has been hard. I had to fit in Chris, Sarah, Marc, and possibly Bridget all tonight. Agnes tomorrow. Trying to coordinate with Anna. Is Ariel alive? So on and so forth. And I have to finish sewing my bra, then decorate it and Bellypalooza is this weekend and rehearsal and and and...

Yeah. Busy. I also have a Womens' Voices post that is long overdue and something reminded me of it this morning. Sadly. So... yeah. When I have the time. Sometime next century.
