Weekend report
I had a good weekend that started out not-so-good.
Work was tense, as after a dramatic turn of events, one member of the team is no longer with us. As I was leaving work, I noticed that my keys were no longer on my keychain. Dixie was out of town. Oh crap. Luckily, a neighbor who used to feed Gypsy had a spare key. I got in and found my keys tucked in between the couch cushions. How they got off my keychain, I will never know. J had also had a hard day, so we ended up collapsing on my couch to watch a movie, and that turned into a 4-hour nap in which we were both out cold. I missed BSG and will likely stream it tonight. We got up, had a bite to eat, then went back to bed. Sleep cures all manner of ills.
Saturday, I got up for dance class-- the last day of our shimmy-focused sessions. We reviewed, learned a new arms combo, and then started working on how to put together a tribal drum solo. 'Cause, y'know, that's not intimidating or anything. Note to self: buy Raquy and the Cavemen album. It was challenging and new and spazztastic, but more fun than I'd expected. I tried to stop by Baltimore Tattoo Museum to have my next tat priced, but they were closed for a friend's wedding.
When I got home, I got changed and promptly headed out with Colleen to the Southern MD Celtic Festival, where we met up with Marda and Greg to see 200+ bagpipers in kilts on one field. It was awesome. I have a bizarre bagpipe fetish, I know. But there was honey tasting and funnel cake and arts and crafts and dancing and people hurling sharp objects... y'know, my idea of a good time.
From there, Colleen and I headed home to meet up with Jim for dinner, and it's always good to see him. We headed out to a Thai restaurant where I had my first mojito of the season. Mmmm, mojito. Quote 'o the weekend:
Well, okay... there's another quote o'the weekend, but I think if I mentioned it here, the speaker of said quote would turn bright red again.
After dinner, Jim headed off to his movie (how was it?), and Colleen and I headed home for some one-on-one time. Sadly, lightning made hottubbing kind of iffy, so we found other fun ways to pass the time, including me totally geeking out on her about M.I.A. I then astonished her with the fact that I do actually fall asleep quicker than most men. Pillow talk? Kind of not my forte.
Sunday, Colleen and I visited a nice little farmer's market with good coffee and the prettiest orchid shop I've seen in awhile. Lost fans take note, it was called "Orchid Station." On the way home, there was a horrific traffic jam that resulted in a 40-minute delay, but good company passes the time quickly.
I got home, quickly showered, and then was right out the door, as J was taking me to a party to meet some of his friends, who were all very nice. The party was winding down by 6pm, and we were already in Silver Spring, so we decided to head over to Tribal Cafe to watch some dancing. I bumped into tons of my favorite people there and got many good hugs. J also got introduced to more of my crew.
The dancing itself was stellar. I know I say that every month, but this month was particularly good. Two of Kallisti's ladies (Amy and my kickass teacher, Lyra) performed a lovely improv set, and J noted that it was so much fun to watch because they seemed to be enjoying themselves so much. Miss Eugenia kicked tons of ass in her Tribal Cafe debut with a lovely electronica-powered fusion set. And Romka did some awesome new solo work and a really jaw-dropping sword number to Corvus Corax. (Quoth the boy, "whoa.") Also, bonus points to Bella for dancing to Lisa Hall's "Is This Real?" which I just loved.
J and I then made it safely back to my place, had a late-night breakfast-for-dinner, goofed off (topic: zombies), and passed out. This whole regularly sleeping next to someone thing is nice; I'd almost forgotten. Also nice: the being kissed good morning on his way out the door thing.
Overall, I do have a list of things I need to do, so... in no particular order:

Jim: Congratulations on your new conquest.
Me: Conquest?
Jim: Well, 'love slave' just sounds so déclassé.
