The language of flowers
This morning, I slept into my alarm. Usually, I wake up about five minutes before it goes off, as I dread that damn sound. I hate being jarred awake from sleep, as it makes me more tired once the adrenaline rush has worn off. My body's built in strange patterns to avoid this-- I usually wake up briefly around 6:30, then back asleep until 7:50. Last night, I slept like a rock, straight through the night. I remember having vivid dreams, but I don't know what about.
Ah well. Tonight is the great room cleaning event. I was barely home in December, and as a result, my floor is barely visible. There are big piles of clothes, and boxes are strewn everywhere. I'm going to do lots of laundry, wash my sheets, organize my stuff, wash errant dishes, vacuum, and straighten up my dresser-tops. It's time to get a new cloth runner... mine is pretty wax stained right now. It's all going to take hours. I've been dreading it and procrastinating, but I'm having company over this weekend, and I just can't take it anymore.
I've been researching flower codes today as inspiration for some earrings. It's both fascinating and frustrating. Fascinating because gosh, the romance and intrigue of it all! It adds an entirely new layer of subtlety to flirting that we've completely lost in this day and age. Frustrating because a lot of sources contradict themselves. In the way of jewelry, I made a very pretty lapis necklace last night with an antique pendant. It's not big and chunky, as most lapis necklaces tend to be. Instead, it's very classic, while still looking old-fashioned. It's to be called "Katherine," and bonus points to you if you get the reference.
Slow at work today, but I'm just about to start on the end-of-week reports. Hopefully that will speed things along. In the meanwhile, I'm stealing this meme from
