My friends give the best gifts, I swear. Granted, simply spending time together goofing off in the kitchen or singing along to musicals is gift enough, but occasionally the material acquisitions are fun, too. Ariel made me a CD with a cover of collaged cutouts from Seventeen magazine, circa 1998. On the disc was a rundown of songs we've rocked out to in the car while driving around together. This included lots of Gin Blossoms, Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" (I defy you not to car rock to that!), The Divinyls' "I Touch Myself," Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus," and a bunch of other terribly dorky songs that I am too ashamed to list here. She also made cookies and fudge and a candle and a pretty red scarf.
Bridget carved me a pair of really cool wooden hairsticks. They're intentionally carved in a bowed-in shape-- very unique. I don't think I've seen another pair like them. And they hold really securely despite being considerably thicker than any other hairstick I have. They look totally neat. And then I realized that they kinda look like mini-stakes. You know, for the stylish vampire slayer. And that amused me immensely. I followed this train of thought to think about what would happen if she carved some slightly spindly-looking ones and I attached something vaguely cross-like to the ends as decoration. Voila! Buffy hairsticks. And then I realized that I'm a huge nerd, probably for about the twentieth time today.
Had a great night with Don / bellybalt. He's the best gay boyfriend in the world. We went shoe shopping. His taste is impeccable. Tex told me today that our New Years Eve plans include some kind of black tie affair in NYC, so I took that as a sign to buy myself a pretty new pair of silky Nine West pumps. Granted, I saw a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choos in Nordstrom, but christ in heaven am I not the sort of person with that kind of available cashflow. I think it's amusing that for as much as I'm a Doc Martens kind of girl of late, I occasionally lust after shoes that I would only be able to wear with one outfit in my wardrobe. Which needs expanding, by the way. I need to invest in a tailored pantsuit fairly soon. Anyway, Don and I scouted shoes and had good sushi at Sushi Hana and otherwise ran about thither and yon until Bridget, Chris, and Sarah came over for tea and chatting. Which, as always, was fantastic.
Anyhow, it is past my bedtime, and I am very very busy tomorrow. Goodnight!
