Faire Wrap-up 2007!

First of all... Mediaeval Baebes!

Katherine Blake, founding member and musical director.

Emily Ovenden, who we sadly did not get any great pictures of because of the mic.
:(

Bev Lee and Claire.

Esther, Melpomeni, Katherine.

Maxine.

Esther and Melpomeni.

Bev Lee.

And me with the Baebes at the signing!

Baebes Thoughts and Highlights (including from Friday's concert):
-- The new Baebes are all fitting in quite nicely. I think that while I was the most impressed with Bev Lee's musicality, Maxine stole the show as far as body movement is concerned. She's really got the Baebe sassiness down.
-- Esther had the perfect amount of girlish fear in her voice as she did "Tam Lin." It was very different from Marie's otherworldly and etheric singing, but it still worked very well and I made sure to tell her so.
-- "The Snake" live. YAY. I definitely sang along like a total nerd.
-- Melpomeni. So pretty, man. She seemed a little tense at the Friday show, but really loosened up at Faire. Did I mention pretty? 'Cause yeah. Pretty.
-- I love love love Emily's vocals. So much. Note to self: buy Celtic Legend album.
-- No one has a voice like Katherine, I swear. It's so unique and I love it, especially on classic Baebe songs like "Ecce Mundi Gaudium."
-- I bought the live album, plus one of the new logo tees with the hot naked chick on the front. Yay!
-- Have no idea which album "Caraway" is from, but it was lovely. They also debuted a new song, "He Hath My Heart," featuring Emily on lead vocal, and it was awesome.
-- So, I'm standing in line at the signing, and suddenly they're all cooing about my headpiece, and one of the new ladies (Melpomeni or Maxine) said something to the effect of "she looks like she could be one of us, doesn't she?" so I joked that if they ever needed a classically-trained bellydancing soprano, gimme a call. And Claire took a picture of me! I made sure to tell them if they needed jewelry or hairpieces made, I'd gladly be of service, and then Emily said to MySpace message her about it. And then I walked away and jumped up and down like a dork for about ten minutes!

Ariel and I.

Ariel!

Me!

And the back of my skirt, since I don't think I posted it.

Me & Marc.

Darren and Jim, who are seeeeekrit looooooovahs....

And in parting, the socks that both Ariel and I own.

Faire Highlights:
-- Wee tiny babies in kilts! So freakin' cute!
-- Steak on a stake. Yum. I forgot to get dessert, though. Verily, that maketh me sad.
-- Seeing many friends and loved ones, including Frank and his Ms. Violet, Flissy and Steve, Marc, Jim, Darren, RM and his lady, Ric, Sati, thewhitedragon, Naimah in her scary leather faerie costume, Marda (briefly!), Abby, James, Julian, and, umm... well, I had a lot of wine. If I missed someone, tell me? :)
-- Dancing to the Rogues at the Dragon. Yaaaay, makes me happy.
-- Ariel. She made me type this.
-- Ariel telling little girls that I was a faery, and their awestruck reactions.
-- Best rose delivery of faire thus far: I was grabbing a bottle of water before heading out for the evening. The girl at the drink kiosk asked me to wait for a moment, and I said sure. She ran to the back, and I expected her to come back out with a camera. Instead, she came out with a single yellow rose and presented it to me shyly. It was so adorable, I can't even tell you.
-- Ariel and I were approached by a lady who explained to us that she'd told her son that he could have his picture taken with any two women he asked (and who said yes), and that he'd chosen us. We of course said it was okay. Cutest young teen ever. He called me "miss" (!) and was thrilled when I noticed him later in the day and waved.
-- Baby, I can double-entendre with the best of 'em. Don't ask me if I want your sword unless you really want to know exactly how I feel about you and your sword, mmmkay?
-- I bought a cloak! A green cloak! Now I can be just like Janet in her mantle green. Which way to Miles' Cross?
-- I saw Katherine waiting by the roadside with her hubby and baby on the way to the car-- so I got to say goodbye and thank her for the concert.

Faire by numbers (tallying for three days):
Number of times I was asked to pose for a picture by strangers: 32.
Highest number of photos per day: 20 (yesterday).
Number of roses received from strangers: 5.
Number of times I saw the Rogues: 6.
Number of times we saw "Heidi": 0. Thank god!

Number of times suspected it was a cheesy come on: 2.

Quote of faire: A middle-aged couple is walking behind me as we turn onto Mary Dale's way, which is totally packed.
Man: I can't believe the crowds here.
Woman: Walk behind this girl.
Man: Why?
Woman: Watch.
Man: (ten seconds later) Oh.
Woman: She totally parts the crowd, doesn't she?

(Okay, okay, so that's all sorts of obnoxious and horn-tooty, but at the time I flushed to the roots of my hair!)

And that's all I got!
