TGIF

'Fo reals. I am torn between the three awesome going-out options I've been presented with this evening and my need for sleep, rest, and frugality. Buying costuming is expensive and requires budgeting, and that doesn't leave me with an overabundance of cash.

On the plus, Flissy and I had a good status/planning meeting last night. We talked about our dance goals for the next two years both individually and together, and we decided on a weekly practice program that I think will be good and allow us to develop a "portfolio" of improv and choreo combo pieces that will benefit us as a duo.

Personally, I want to get back into regular classes. I'm looking to take with Brooke if/when she starts up, and with Asharah when I can. I want to do the ATS hangouts that have been rumored. I also want to start planning to budget for next year's workshops since I'm sad that Triboriginal wasn't even on my radar when I could have started planning for it, and I was out of town for this year's PURA. So a better-planned dance calendar is also a priority for me. I want to take lots of classes with instructors whose dance I enjoy and respect. And Flissy and I both agreed that we want to get scimitars around Christmastime. Maybe it's being around awesome swordtastic dancers like Romka and Naimah, but we now both have the burning desire to learn to dance with swords on our heads. I've got my eye on the Kult of Athena Baladay Scimitar when it comes back in stock.

Annnnywhodle. Re: my secondary dance obsession, the pretty shiny costuming-- my first bra and belt have been ordered from Scarlet's Lounge. I went with red and black because it's a little easier to blend with other colors than teal, and I think every dancer should at least start with basic black so s/he can have a standard matching base color for class or casual performing. Also, a $99 bra appealed to me a whole lot more than going for the full-coin on D-Cups for about $300. I might make sewing my own full-coin bra my winter project. Maybe.

I also just ordered two tops from L Rose designs-- a black brocade vest top and a black cotton lycra U-top with Persian sleeves. Two good basic pieces, chosen for maximum mix-and-matchability. With my next paycheck, I'm getting a traditional black tribal skirt and red satin harem pants to wear under it. I'm reaaaal tempted by Velvet Peacock's lush 4-yard harem pants, 'cause they're just gorgeous, but since they'll be under a skirt, cheaper plain ones will work just as well. I need to develop sewing-fu.

Speaking of Velvet Peacock:

Want.

Pretty pretty ghwazee coat. Want it. Want the whole outfit, actually. But 'spensive.

See, the problem, aside from being a total and utter magpie, is that styles I like range from full-on RenFest to ATS to gothy tribal fusion. Not all of it is mix-y. And so I'm trying to restrain the magpie tendencies and get the basics. I can always add accessories. And when I have the basics, I can pick and choose specialty pieces. I know that my next set I'll buy will be warm browns and reds and russets and golds, for instance. But that'll be a ways off, unless I come into a tidy sum of money.

Lalala. That's my pretty shiny things update for the morning.
