San Francisco Part I: The Trip So Far

Day One: Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Muir Beach

The Giant Redwoods at Muir Woods.
Some of these trees were over 2,000 years old.

Little people, big forest.

At Muir Woods, we walked two trails, out to the Cathedral Grove, where the UN once honored Franklin Roosevelt. There were deer, lots of interesting plants, and HUMONGOUS damn trees. I also bought a gorgeous pair of earrings at the gift shop-- coppered leaf earrings that will be awesome come fall.

Also, this tree had its own weiner.
Why yes, I am five.

I love my boyfriend.

Muir Beach was chilly and very windy. I ate a lot of sand. Beautiful, but I prefer the Atlantic, where you can actually swim in the water. I'm told that you need a wetsuit unless you're waaay in Southern CA. I believe it. That water was frigid.

Also, fog rolling over the mountains. It's like a big, white, creepy monster-thing in person.

We also had authentic Mexican food at Taqueria La Bamba. Brandie, you're right. It is better in California.

Day Two: Farmer's Market at The Ferry Building and Chinatown, DNA Lounge

SF Map: The Ferry Building

We started off the day at the Farmer's Market, where I tasted the best honey evar. Sky bought two jars, that's how good it was. The Ferry Building was a foodie's dream. Fresh EVERYTHING. I am actually glad I forgot my wallet that day, or I'd have blown my budget right then and there. Schaffen-Berger chocolates, Recchiuti Confections, Miette Patisserie, imported Tuscan herbs... yeah. If there's time on Friday, I'm going back. It was like wonderland. Adriana got a good pic-- she'll send it to me later tonight.

Welcome to Chinatown.

Adriana and her parasol.

We ate at an authentic Chinese restaurant, even ordering the things that the waitress politely informed us were not things that the American clients enjoyed. Most of the food was excellent, and the green tea ice cream was to die for. Highlight of the meal: Skyler not noticing that the mustard was made of wasabi-level horseradish, and slathering his dim sum in it. He turned fire-engine red and he cried tears, y'all. It was the best ever. Also? Crystal Chicken has my thumbs up, coconut water does not.

Of all the stores in Chinatown, this was by far the nicest.
Gorgeous textiles, incenses, decorations.

Inside the Chinese Herbal store.

Yes, those are shark fins.

Haul for the day: six mother-of-pearl inlaid hairsticks and a canister of authentic Chinese Jasmine tea. We wandered through at least 20 little stores, tea tastings, markets. The culture there was so incredibly different-- it was a lot to take in.

The ride to DNA Lounge.

In the evening, lm invited Sky & I to the DNA Lounge for the Hubba Hubba Review. What a club! If I'd have known it was gonna be all the hottest people in San Francisco swing dancing in vintage clothes, I would have packed mine! As it was, Sky and I said screw it, and I danced in my Doc Martens. East Coast, represent.

Sky and I were waiting for lm when I got a tap on the shoulder. "Are you Christina?" But of course. It was the fabulous dakinigrl, with kita0610 and ros_fod in tow! Soon, the show started, and there were hot chicks and boobies galore. God, I love burlesque. Anyway, I had two margaritas, and it wasn't until the end of the second that I caught just how strong the bartender made them. I was... giddy. Happy. Me, but bouncier, and slightly less filtered. Way to make a first impression, girl. At any rate, Your Little Chernobyl was awesome with the flying hoop acrobatics. And there was fandom-meet pizza afterwards, and Daki gave me one of her awesome retro pinup necklaces (featuring Kita's legs, I think). If anyone else wants retro goodies with a sex kitten flair, Daki has an Etsy shop. Anyway, onto the babes:

LOL @ Lynae. Strangely, I think the expression fits!

To Recap: Long bridge, Mexican food, Chinese food, big trees, the Pacific Ocean is cold, Chinatown, scary fog, gorgeous desserts, swing dancing, boobies, and meeting kita0610, lm, and dakinigrl.

Tentative Plan For The Rest of the Week: Thursday-- Capitola. Friday-- cable car riding, Coit tower, Shopping, meeting up with the hotties above for Lush and coffee. Saturday-- farewell cook-out, then flying home.

As for today, we're lazing around Sky's family's place. His Uncle Charlie and Aunt Marti have a multi-million dollar house, and Sky's doing beef teriyaki for dinner. Adriana is baking her famous Nutella cake. I may slip into a chocolate-induced coma. And with it being the birth of a nation and all, we might just get to see fireworks. Not a bad way to spend the 4th, especially if we go on another walk. The gardens around here are unbelievable. You can smell the jasmine for miles.
