Busy busy weekend.
Quickly!
Friday:: The dance. I like Shades of Blue; I do not really like the Boumi Temple. Of the three floors that I've danced on at FNS functions, it is patently my least favorite. Being Memorial Day weekend, not a lot of powder was laid on the floor, which meant in the awful humidity, the floor was barely slide-y. Was in an awful mood until I realized, duh, I hadn't eaten dinner. Low blood sugar Christina = very unhappy Christina. Crankiness wore off at the diner-- god bless cheese omelets and chocolate milkshakes.
Saturday:: Rose early for work stuff at Balticon. Spent four hours manning our scan site there-- face scanning everyone from Vulcans to small children. Innnteresting. Didn't get to see much of the con beyond part of the vending area, though one character sketch artist was very flirtily amusing (and cute!), and whoa, big swords. There was one vendor with lots of tribal jewelry, but whoa. 'Spensive. I'll eBay. Saw worst Jareth evarrr. Some men are not meant to wear heels. Bought a Serenity t-shirt for Sky & me to share. Ogled jewelry. Found out that the lightrail can take me to Wegmans whenever I please. Am doomed.
On the way home, I meandered into a gorgeous little shop in Mount Washington called "Somethin' Else." And whoa, it was. PRETTY clothing. Fairylike and shiny and manymany colors. Found a skirt that Abby and I are likely to fight a deathmatch over-- olive green with a bronze sequined belt, layery tiers, tied sides. GORGEOUS. But $70. Currently on the 30% off rack-- if it moves to 50% off, I may be too tempted. It would be perfect for Autumn. Have been finding many enchanted-like places of late. Combine that with the pink hair and a penchant for blue Pixy Sticks, and I may be turning into a faery. Picked up dinner at Desert Cafe-- jumbo lump crabmeat gazpacho + hummus platter with key lime = for the win.
Sunday:: Shopping with classmates for tribalwear. Comics Kindom didn't have many cholis, so Abby and I will be ordering ours from Melodia once they re-open shop (hopefully Thursday). The real damage was done at JoAnne's, where we all bought fabric for our class belts. I got an Indian-print Sari-type brocade for the belt, shimmery cinnamon-colored fabric for the paneling, thick burgundy wool yarn and goldish accent yarn for the tassels, a little bit of gold and burgundy trim, and gold beads for decoration. tamnonlinear: "There was much running about the store, trying to decide what would be a good idea to put on our skirts (answer: everything) and what we could actually afford (answer: significantly less)." My damage: $40. Ouch.
Sky and I got lost on the way to Tribal Cafe (took the wrong bridge), which amounted to a half hour walk in the rain with no umbrella. Sky was gleeful; I was worried about dripping pink down my back. The dancing was beautiful, as usual-- it was my first experience seeing Romka dance, and they did not disappoint. Mavi is soooo cute. I'm sad that I'll miss next month-- I'm doing a hafla with my classmates on that evening. But hey-- fire pit! (I love my life!)
Monday:: Tired. Sky and I stayed in bed, had French toast and bacon, and watched the Back To The Future movies. I needed a chill day.
Today:: Hair is cutely wavy from having slept in braids. Since I didn't end up having time to post my jewelry sale, that will be done tonight. I will also post pictures of
dagger_garnet &
stridera's trip wherein we all smoked a hookah, provided I have time. Dinner at Sky's tonight-- he's making something called "Straw and Hay." Innnnteresting.
