That's cheating!
Today, I am cheating on BPAL. It used to be that I only cheated on BPAL with Femaledictions, but that was before I found out the truly shady business practices going on over there-- as it turns out, pretty much every blend that sCara offered was a stock oil from somewhere else, not at all hand-blended. Were it the case that she were more or less up-front about that, I probably would have continued ordering from her-- I found several scents I liked there, and the packaging was very pretty and gift-able. There are several oils I will want again in the Autumn, and buying them from her would have been easier for me than tracking them down from several suppliers. Oh well. Lying is lying, and I don't like giving my money to shady people who tell creative truths about their products and their shipping practices, you know? Perhaps I've been spoiled by Beth & the Lab's wonderful customer service and impeccable track record, but that's the way it is.
I got off topic. Today, I am cheating on BPAL with Ava Luxe. A few months ago,
maewitch gifted me with a sample of Golden Amber, and today, I used the last syrupy drops. It smells amazing. Rich and resiny and smoky and just a little sweet. This packs a punch that BPAL's amber note rarely does on me-- BPAL amber often goes bubblegum-sweet on me, at least until the drydown. This is a true rich, redolent oil note-- timeless, almost sacred smelling, and very close to the skin. I would love to get a 5ml parfum (non-alcohol base) out of which to make a massage oil. I'm going to make a very small Ava Luxe order to sample the various amber notes they offer-- Dark Amber, Ambra Tibet, Amber Essence-- and see how they compare to one another.
Another company I've been considering cheating with is Possets. I've checked in on the site a few times since it opened, but haven't been tempted enough to buy something. Fabienne just added something new and unique, though-- Cambienne. The concept behind Cambienne is that there will be one master flask of perfume, and she will add to it over the course of a year to reflect that season, so that no two bottles of Cambienne bought over the course of the year are ever the same. For instance, the current Cambienne batch represents springtime-- delicate flowers and wet grasses-- that will transition to a more summery scent as the weather warms. As a concept, this gets an A+, and I'll follow the forums to see how the scent morphs.
