Season 2 Lost
A sketch of my general reactions.
First and foremost, all I can really say is that Mr. Eko is made of awesome. Seriously, the actor who plays him (because I can't spell his name) is absolutely fantastic. The way he can play a range of emotions over the course of one episode is really something to behold. The role itself is so complex and layered, and how he manages to play fearsome and soothing at the same time, I'll never know. All I know is that Mr. Eko is made of awesome.
I still heart Jack. I heard a lot of people complaining about how he got too 'whiny,' but I didn't see whiny at all. I saw a man who's been elected the leader of this fucked-up band of survivors, who doesn't sleep because he has to attend to some stupid life-threatening injury every ten seconds, and who is stressed out to the point of fraying after two months. He's been so busy attending to everyone else's traumas that he's shoved his own away, and now they've piled up and are crashing in on him. The way he's acting is perfectly understandable, and I think Matthew Fox is doing a great job of portraying the character. And still, I'd do Jack over Sawyer any day of the week.
(Plus, when that man cries, I just want to hug him, give him a cookie, and let him rest, nestled sweetly upon my bosom.)
I still don't give a shit about Kate. She's like flan. Pretty flan, but still flan. Maybe I'd care more if she played more than nursemaid or damsel in distress, but she hasn't for a long time.
Just kill Charlie already, for serious. And Claire, too. She's gorgeous, but all she does is rant and rave. On that note, thank god that Michael's gone. I think Harrold Perrineau is really cool, but seriously, he only had like three lines all season. Yes, I know they took your boy. They even took your boy right outta your hands. I know you want your boy back. And I certainly know that his name is 'Waaaaaaaalt!' Now STFU, already.
Omg, I actually started to like Shannon before she bit it. I loved the whole Sayid/Shannon thing because it was so unexpected, and Naveen's acting made me really buy that Sayid was really in love with her. I didn't so much like that Sayid really didn't have much to do all season, but I love his character's dignity so much. I think he'll probably bite it next season because his character's essentially become expendable, but I really hope I'm wrong.
Hurley beating up Sawyer was the funniest thing all season. Aside from that, though? Dude, it's time to lose the weight.
Why does Michelle Rodriguez play the same character in everything she's ever done? Seriously? I gotta say, though, when she decided that she couldn't kill faux!Henry, the scene was really well acted. Followed by PAPOW! Character assasination on Michael leik whoa.
I kinda liked Libby. Meep.
The actor playing faux!Henry is absolutely fragging brilliant. So interesting to watch.
I totally love watching Sun & Jin's relationship flip flop back and forth as Sun learns to be stronger and Jin realizes he doesn't have to be a flaming bastard anymore. I think the baby's his. I don't think she slept with Korean Kojack. Though she should've.
Can we have awesome Locke back, please? I liked him. Either that, or fucking explain the button, because I'm venturing into the realm of scary fan theories, and I want some answers, plz.
Sawyer is occasionally amusing. I like his nicknames for people. However, he's just about the most predictable character I've ever seen onscreen ever, and for that, I simply don't care.
Heh. Desmond. I like Desmond. He's balls-out nutty, and I like that in a drunken Scotsman. I also can't wait to find out about Penny's operation and why the island only shows up on the map when the magnetism goes all funky kablooey. I had a theory about the island only existing in an alien snowglobe, but then I backed away from the crack and it went away.
Theory time: I think the Others are the original experimental subjects who "worked" for the DHARMA initiative. They worked DHARMA's experiments, not knowing that they were also being manipulated and experimented upon. I bet they banded together and rebelled, developing a serious us-vs-them scenario, and developed an any-means-necessary stance on protecting themselves from any other kind of manipulative influence. Hence stealing children (easily malleable) and "good people" from the survivors-- they need to increase their ranks and put the invading newbs at a disadvantage. It would explain why they're familiar with the test stations.
I don't know what to think of "the sickness." I would call bullshit, thinking of it as kind of the reverse placebo effect, but Danielle seems pretty convinced. Then again, she's loony.
Judging by the whole "only visible during magnetic boom boom" thing, though, I think the button probably did discharge some kind of destructive force. I bet that the magnetic anomaly of the island has a lot to do with why there are so many crashes there. How this connects to the numbers, I haven't the faintest clue, but that's my theory.
And I'm comfortable enough to call it: Locke's dad is the original Sawyer.
Anyway, off the top of my head, those are my thoughts. Followed by LOL @ Naveen's "I don't know how to quit you, baby" blooper and Danielle saying "get down with your bad self." Heh. And OMG that channel 4 UK promo was to die for. Soooo pretty-- it was like art in motion. Gorgeous.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but tonight I'm going to start playing catch-up on season 3.
