Hump day.

Yesterday was terribly, terribly long at work. It just dragged on and on. Here's to hoping today will be more like Monday-- over in a flash.

Last night, Abby and I explored historic Ellicott City a little more. We had a quaint little dinner at the Phoenix Tavern before going to the place that everyone simply refers to as "the fairystore." When you first walk in, it looks like an overcrowded junk shop. Only you look closer and see crazy things like a peacock-feather embroadered cloak, big displays of glass faeries and crystals and knick-knackery. But there are two more floors-- they hold racks of iridescent ribbons, Waterhouse prints, vintage dresses and hip scarves, life-sized troll dolls, lawn gnomes, mirrors of every shape and size. Then there is the top floor, where odd groupings of shelves create holiday themes. There is Christmasland, Easterland, Halloweentown-- each with their own sound-producing, animatronic miniature displays. It was like walking onto the set of The Nightmare Before Christmas. And harlequin masks! I definitely want to get one of those. Abby and I have vowed to go back with cameras-- probably on a Saturday, so we can visit the Pagan shop and maybe take tea at the Victorian tea room.

Man, I would love to live in Ellicott City. You go just off the main street, and there are high hills and boulders, and little streams that run between houses. Some of the dwellings looked like gypsy camps. I can only imagine how unbelievably beautiful the place is in the Autumn. It's like it's stuck back in time, so charming. I may change the setting of my novel to Ellicott City to add some more thematic feeling. Also, I have found where all the naturally hot women on the East Coast are hiding. I don't know why it is, but there were head-turners all over the place. Our waitress was absolutely stunning.

Bellydance was good. Our teacher last night was much more challenging than any we've had before, partially because of her attention to detail, and partially because her cues were unfamiliar to me. Abby knows her and has taken classes from her before, so I may do so too when she starts teaching regularly again in September. In the meanwhile, the Avalon is looking for an interim teacher, and I'll probably sign up there. No bellydance for me next week, though-- Abby and I are going to hear some sea shanties sung. Hopefully I'll be introduced to more rogues and bawdy wenches.

Tonight, I am going to write. One chapter, no less.
